Why Defeat The Devil? - Chapter 36

“Sigh…”

The sigh sounded incredibly clear in the dim forest path.

Xi En trekked forward aimlessly on the path while he recalled the new information that he had just received. He just could not dismiss the news, hence the endless sighing.

“And I thought that I came to a world of clichés.”

What now?

“This twist in the plot is too abrupt…”

In any case, Xi En was unable to snap himself out of the situation as things have come to a head.

“Am I being cheated?”

Was that not the case?

“The Devil has already been beaten and the world regained its peace for a millennium. What need is there for a Warrior’s salvation now?”

That was the reason the Goddess used, however, in reviving Xi En who had been dead once and sending him as a Warrior to this world.

“What does this all mean?”

Xi En was confused.

Worse, he felt like all his efforts to this day had gone down the drain.

“I became an Adventurer with the goal of defeating the Devil…”

Xi En chose to become an Adventurer not just for the money. If he wanted to make money, he could camp out for days in the forest like he did previously and kill as many monsters as he could to collect their carcasses for sale. That way, he did not even have to worry about his livelihood.

Moreover, he did not have to explicitly be an Adventurer to level and upgrade his abilities. He could just keep fighting monsters. His level would be raised for sure, anyway.

Xi En chose to become an Adventurer, not just as his dream profession of the alternate universe, but to secure a foothold in this world to ultimately defeat the Devil.

Otherwise, how could he, a foreigner who had just arrived in this world, find and beat the Devil?

He needed intelligence, a source which would allow him to access all sorts of information in this world without any hindrances.

Becoming an Adventurer was a brilliant solution.

After all, whichever way the story panned out, an Adventurer had to roam the world anyway. It was an existence which facilitated travel across the globe. With the Adventurers Guild for support, a force which extended all over the world, Xi En could totally blend into this universe as an Adventurer and acquire the crucial information he needed.

There was also the issue of his identity.

Perhaps it was fine now, but when his level got higher and he became conspicuous, Xi En would certainly stand out and might even be investigated. When the time came and he still did not have an identity, it could cause him a lot of trouble.

He foresaw the day he might be scrutinized by the others, if he did not become an Adventurer but a recluse instead, who furtively made money while he leveled.

Had he not become an Adventurer but had remained in Lamigione and brought in large quantities of body parts of monsters daily, the guards at the gate would recognize him easily.

In that case, it would only be a matter of time before Xi En aroused suspicion. If someone were to investigate him, his anomalies would certainly be exposed. He might even be targeted and his Sacred Sword confiscated. It would only induce more trouble with nothing good coming out of it.

After due consideration, it led Xi En to opt for the profession as an Adventurer, using it as a stepping stone to blend into this world before he planned his next move.

This way, when he had leveled to a satisfactory standard and finished collecting all the intel he needed, he could then defeat the Devil. Hence, Xi En could depart immediately and act to accomplish his goal.

Even then, he still needed an identity to roam this world freely.

All this brought Xi En to the path he currently took.

Who would know…

“It’s a K.O. before the battle even begins.”

His greatest goal was lost in an instant.

Personally, Xi En thought that he would take delight in this crucial piece of information.

“Since the Devil’s already defeated and the world has long been harmonious, I don’t have to battle that dude whom even the deities are scared of. I can live my second life safe and sound, and pass my days peacefully as an Adventurer.”

In this regard, the occasion was absolutely joyous.

However, Xi En did not think that the Goddess who had summoned him to this world, resurrecting him and making him a Warrior, had done so just for fun.

She must have summoned him for some reason. There was no doubt about it. In addition, she had lied to him, using the Devil who was already beaten as an excuse.

It made Xi En feel like he was being roped into some kind of unseen conspiracy.

“What’s going on is considered a plot too, I guess?”

Xi En was open to it. As usual, he could not do anything about it, so he accepted this sudden change of development. Anyway, he could not be certain that it was all a conspiracy.

“Maybe the Devil isn’t dead yet. Perhaps Ni En knew, and that’s why she revived the Warrior summoning ceremony?”

It was possible that the demons were planning to start another war after recuperating for a millennium to mitigate the humiliation of losing to the deities. That was probably why Ni En summoned a Warrior again. It made sense too.

It was just that…

“There must be no room for instigation among all the three groups now. Even a gentle person like Vivian asserted that a Warrior must never appear again, huh?”

If the emergence of a Warrior was made known, the equilibrium maintained by all the three groups would definitely be disturbed regardless of whether it was a conspiracy or whatever the reasons may be.

As Vivian had said, the demons would never close an eye and dismiss the threat if they knew of the existence of a Warrior.

Once the mortals knew that the deities had summoned a Warrior, they would get defensive as they would surely suspect that the demons were up to no good.

Then, the deities would want to obliterate the demons that had long been their nemesis via the power of the Warrior.

Whichever world it was, wild ambition and malice were always present. Among the deities, demons, and mortals who yearned for peace, there were some who wanted to destroy the peace too. Once the presence of a Warrior was confirmed, Xi En imagined there would be numerous people who would take the Warrior’s presence as an excuse to wage war.

“I think Vivian must’ve suspected such a thing could happen for her to say with such resolve that the Warriors must not appear again…”

Once a Warrior appeared, for whatever reason, it would set off the chain of events which would break the peace.

It was not what the majority would want, so…

“Does this world no longer need a Warrior?”

Xi En sighed again.

This time, there was a reply.

“Yes, this world no longer needs a Warrior.”

The voice rang out clearly in the dim forest, freezing Xi En.
