Why Defeat The Devil? - Chapter 2

Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

When he came to his senses, Xi En realized that he was standing on the ground.

“So, this is the alternate universe…?”

Upon opening his eyes and taking in the scenery before him, he was truly bewildered.

Xi En was in a lush green forest, in the midst of a dense thicket with gentle rays of sunlight showering down on him.

All kinds of flora which he had never seen before were everywhere. However, there was no sound of the fauna, least of all the insects. The air felt awfully heavy, as if informing an outsider like Xi En that he was not welcomed.

“I wouldn’t have arrived somewhere unimaginable, would I?”

It was Xi En’s first impression of this world. Honestly, he was still very much confused.

Although he remembered what happened to him, it was likely that he was mixed up since he had just come to an alternate universe and was in a totally foreign place without knowing anything about the present world.

Nonetheless, there was a strength to Xi En that no one could compare to. No matter how absurd the situation was, he would readily accept it for what it is.

For this reason, Xi En willingly accepted the reality and agreed to the Goddess’s request to come to this alternate universe after knowing his fate.

“I wonder if I’m like this in my previous life or my personality has changed after my death,” muttered Xi En as if he were mocking himself.

He then felt something heavy in his hand, beckoning his attention. In response, he shifted his gaze upon it.

Xi En was stupefied by the sight that greeted him. A sword had somehow appeared in his grip.

It was a shiny resplendent sword, the type which required both hands to maneuver. It had a golden grip with a golden gem embedded atop the grip. The blade had a constant flowing glow which was blinding, making it an exceptional, dazzling weapon.

Xi En felt his breath taken away just by looking at the sword. At the same time, he also felt something odd about the sword. It was as if he became one with the sword, sharing an inseparable bond.

It was like he was looking at himself. Xi En was completely nonplussed that a message appeared in his mind whenever he stared at the sword.

“Sacred Sword”

– Wielder: Xi En

– Level +100

– +10 All skill levels

– Highest level of durability

– Bounded to wielder, cannot be dropped, transferred, destroyed, modified, or intercepted.

“… Is this a joke?”

Xi En was stunned. His instincts told him that it was a remarkable sword.

According to the Goddess, he was a warrior. It was natural for a warrior to have his own sacred sword. Even then, its exceptional effects seemed a bit too much.

Even if Xi En had no idea of the attributes and strength the sword possessed, he could tell with certainty just by observing the list of effects that it was something extraordinary.

In particular, if such a weapon appeared in a game, it would instantly skew the whole game and make the players berate the game developer.

Lo and behold, that was only the beginning.

Other than the Sacred Sword in front of him, there was other information appearing in Xi En’s mind. It had two parts: Level and Skill.

The resemblance to gaming caused Xi En to raise his eyebrows. Not a moment too soon, he realized that he could readily check the game’s status with his mind.

He accessed the Level status.

It showed his current level: “Level 1”.

Well, that was straightforward. It made Xi En acutely aware that he was a true newbie.

Then, he checked the Skill.

What was displayed appeared to be all the skills Xi En currently possessed with something called “Skill Points”.

The Skill Points showed “100”. Xi En had no idea if such a value was high or not. As for the skills that he currently had, there were only two for now.

“Heaven’s Grace”

– Exclusive skill

– Maximum upgrade of all abilities in leveling

– Maximum Skill Point in leveling

– Minimum prerequisites for all Skill acquiring

– Minimum prerequisites for all Skill leveling

– Effective eternally, cannot be cancelled in any way

“Supreme God’s Blessing”

– Special skill

– Receives the world’s protection

– Limited to deities; all conditions can be fulfilled.

– Limited to deities; all interventions can be avoided.

– Limited to deities; all positions can take effect.

– Limited to deities; all effects can be buffed.

“…”

Xi En lapsed into silence.

Same old, same old. He thought that the skills were equally remarkable. As to how remarkable they were, Xi En, who had no conception of this world, had no way to find out just yet.

Similarly, the list of effects seemed too good to be true.

Would it…

“Does the Goddess want me to defeat the Devil when I’m at Level 1?”

Xi En thought that it was plausible.

After some intense contemplation, he decided to let it be for now.

“I’ll just act accordingly.”

After all, he would have to find the Devil if he was going to defeat the Devil, right?

Furthermore, Xi En did not think that he could actually defeat the Devil yet. He did not even know how to battle. Even if he held the wonderful Sacred Sword in his hand, he could probably only wave it around.

Defeat the Devil?

Xi En could not picture himself doing it. Actually, he could only imagine himself quivering in front of the Devil.

“Rather than worry over something unrealistic like defeating the Devil, I should figure out how to get out of this forest.”

Scanning his surroundings, Xi En’s intuition told him that it was not a safe place to linger.

Observing the sun’s position in the sky, he could guess the present time and establish his orientation. He then climbed up a tall tree to survey the area. Having decided the direction to take, he slipped into the forest and cleared his path with the Sacred Sword.

Xi En did not realize that there was a dark shadow in the sky, with belligerent eyes observing him weaving his way through the forest.
