What It’s Like Being a Vampire - Chapter 6

Xiang Kun went out after drinking two cups of water. Until now, water was the only thing that he would not vomit after consuming.

Ever since he had woken up on the 14th of July, he had not passed motion but had urinated for two times.

However, last night, he intentionally drank a lot of water, including two 500ML bottles of plain water and three 1L kettles worth of boiled water, but he had only urinated once. He did not sweat much when he exercised, and it definitely did not add up to the amount of water he drank.

Evidently, not only was his digestive system different from that of an ordinary person, his urinary system and metabolic system were too.

Xiang Kun went to the wet market. It was packed with people at six in the morning.

Before this, he had never gone to the wet market at such an early time. In fact, when he bought the live chicken, it was his first time going to the wet market.

The smell of the wet market was definitely unpleasant. However, different sections of the wet market had different smells.

Xiang Kun realized that his sense of smell had become better too. He could distinguish the scent he was looking for from a mixture of different scents.

After walking around the poultry section of the wet market, Xiang Kun did not buy any chicken or duck, but instead bought two rabbits.

He thought that compared to other animals, rabbits would be the most obedient.

After all, before he moved in, he had told the landlord that he would not cook in the house. If the landlord realized that he had killed chickens and ducks in the house, the landlord would definitely fault him whether he cooked or not.

Xiang Kun lived in a place on an old street in between two new housing estates that was not demolished. Many people rented out their houses as the location was good. There was a railway station nearby the street and hence, many working adults rented apartments there.

Xiang Kun’s landlord did that too. He changed the building to “single apartments,” each equipped with a toilet, and rented it out. As these apartments were very simple, the rental prices were cheap.

In the past few years, Xiang Kun had only gone home to sleep and spent most of his time at the company. It was rare for him to stay at home.

After he returned to the door of his apartment, Xiang Kun realized that there was a new surveillance camera on the door of the shop opposite his apartment and went to talk to the boss of the shop. Xiang Kun told the boss that he had lost his phone last Thursday and wanted to see if he had dropped it somewhere when he left the apartment.

Xiang Kun had lived there for a few years. The boss of the shop recognized him and retrieved the clip that Xiang Kun had requested. The angle of the surveillance camera captured the door of the room that Xiang Kun was living in.

At 8:44 PM, a toyota stopped in front of the building. Xiang Kun came out of the back seat and walked to the door of the building.

Judging from how Xiang Kun walked, he looked rather sober as he still walked normally. Moreover, he successfully used his key to open the door, and after a few seconds, he went up.

Then Xiang Kun fast forwarded the clip. From the surveillance camera, he could see that everyone who had left and entered the building were tenants of the block. There were no strangers.

Xiang Kun did not continue to fast forward the clip. He thought that if anyone had entered his

room and done something to his body, it would have been in this time period. Or else, no matter how drunk he was, he should have woken up by noon the next day.

Xiang Kun picked up the rabbits and went back to his room. He took out his laptop and recorded the results of the investigation. He renamed the document to “Investigation of reason for X: door of apartment”.

After he woke up on the 14th of July, although his head was spinning, he could clearly remember that the safety lock in the room was locked. Nobody could open it from the outside, even with a key. His windows were also locked properly and there were no signs of anyone breaking in.

Moreover, although he was very drunk on the way back home on the night of July 11th after he left the shop, he remembered clearly that he had never touched the driver throughout the entire ride.

Based on all of that, he deduced that the possibility that someone had done anything to his body during that period of time was extremely small.

However, this could not eliminate the possibility that someone had drugged the food he had eaten or had done anything to his body before that night, causing X to remain in his body and only take effect after July 11th.

If it were related to genetics, he could discover something if he investigated the medical history of his family members.

However, if he asked his parents directly, he would probably not obtain any answers. He had to wait to return to his hometown and investigate personally.

Based on his prior experience, Xiang Kun had done his research online and bought a kitchen knife so he did not have to use the small swiss knife. The process of killing and draining blood went much smoother.

After drinking a large bowl of rabbit blood, Xiang Kun realized that he did not really have any strong feelings towards the taste of blood. He did not feel disgusted by it but did not feel that it was delicious. However, after ingesting the blood, he felt as though deep within his body, every blood vessel, every muscle, and every cell was satisfied.

It was as though his body had countless body parts with self-consciousness, and they were cheering for the “boss,” Xiang Kun. It reminded him of the animated film Cells at Work! where every cell had its own consciousness.

Xiang Kun did not know if it was because of the time or the amount he had consumed, but he could clearly feel that the rabbit blood had given him much more “satisfaction” and “happiness” than the chicken blood he had consumed before.

Xiang Kun cleaned up the toilet and prepared water and vegetable leaves for the other rabbit. Then he felt tired and sleepy. This was much more delayed than the previous time.

After washing up, Xiang Kun lied on his bed and opened the stopwatch on his phone to record the time. Then he relaxed his body and fell asleep.

When he woke up, Xiang Kun did not move. He took notice of the conditions of his body parts before looking at the time on his stopwatch: 25 hours 17 minutes.

He had fallen asleep at 9:00 AM on the 17th, and it was already 10:00 AM on the 18th.

This time, Xiang Kun noticed the changes in his body. He realized that his vision had improved again—it was almost as though he had perfect vision. He could see the small words on the billboard outside his window.

Apart from that, he felt much more energized.

Xiang Kun took off his clothes and stepped on the scale. He realized that he had gained 3.3 kg and was 87.4 kg.
