What It’s Like Being a Vampire - Chapter 42

Although Xiang Kun had already fought with the owl once, when he saw the owl that was as tall as a human, standing on the rock under the moonlight, he still felt shocked by the scene.

Xiang Kun remained on high alert. He was trying to make out the body language of the owl. He could clearly feel that the owl was afraid of him.

However, the owl did not fly off after seeing Xiang Kun. If it really flew off, Xiang Kun would not be able to catch it and would only be able to slowly trace its path based on the direction of its flight. However, if that was the case, it would probably be difficult to find it before sunrise.

Moreover, judging from the owl’s sensitivity, when Xiang Kun found it, it should have also realized that Xiang Kun was around and could have just flown away.

The fact that the owl did not fly showed that it had something else in mind…

One reason could be that the owl was unable to fly for some reason.

The other reason could be that the owl was not satisfied and wanted to kill Xiang Kun.

Xiang Kun thought that the second reason was more likely.

No matter what, that was his chance.

However, he did not dare to rush forward and take action, as he was afraid that the owl would flee. It would be best if the owl attacked him.

Xiang Kun stopped at a distance of greater than ten meters away from the owl. That was because he realized that the owl moved slightly back, as though it was about to retreat. It might have been ready to fly off after observing that Xiang Kun had recovered.

Xiang Kun’s mind was running. This standstill situation would not last long. As time passed, the owl would probably choose to flee if it realized that it was unable to win.

Xiang Kun raised the screwdriver in his hand and bit it in his mouth. Then he took out the Swiss Army knife from his pocket and pulled out the blade. His actions were slow and gentle as he did not want to scare off the owl.

After he pulled out the blade, Xiang Kun made a long slit on his left arm with the knife.

Blood flowed out and dripped onto the ground after trickling down his arm.

Xiang Kun used his left hand to hold the knife and made a similar long slit on his right arm.

He showed off his injuries to the owl.

He had once licked the blood of the owl and felt his body’s strong desire for the owl’s blood. Therefore, he speculated that the owl also wanted Xiang Kun’s blood.

Instead of an attack, the reason why the gigantic owl had sprung a sneak attack on Xiang Kun beside the lake was probably because it saw Xiang Kun as prey.

Otherwise, if it had the habit of attacking humans, it should have been exposed long ago. Its behavior and habits did not match.

The blood of the owl was very attractive to Xiang Kun. It was more than a sensory desire, but an innate call and attraction. The attractiveness was much greater than any animal’s desire for food.

Xiang Kun thought that he was relatively rational and under control. Yet he needed to force himself to control the temptation towards the owl’s blood. In reality, he had taken the risk and appeared to face the extremely dangerous gigantic owl because he needed its blood.

Although the gigantic owl might be smarter than other animals, Xiang Kun did not believe that, as an animal, it could resist the temptation.

After slightly more than ten seconds, blood stopped flowing from his injuries and became thick and gooey. His injuries also began to heal.

Therefore, Xiang Kun took his Swiss Army knife and made two more slits, allowing more blood to flow.

As he showed off his injuries and blood to the owl, he gradually took two steps forward. Xiang Kun realized that the owl’s stance had become one that was in an attack position.

It was unable to resist!

The owl flapped its wings and flew towards Xiang Kun’s head. Then it opened its claws and pressed down on Xiang Kun.

Xiang Kun was extremely attentive and focused and had reached his peak of sensation. He could even hear the owl’s heartbeat and breath.

Therefore, Xiang Kun had predicted the owl’s movements before it attacked.

When the owl flew, Xiang Kun had already transferred the screwdriver from his mouth to his hand and lowered his center of gravity in preparation to attack.

Xiang Kun’s vision had also reached its peak. He located the owl’s position in the air and did not dodge at all. When the owl flew down towards Xiang Kun, he also jumped up with all his energy.

Xiang Kun’s plan was clear. Be it his own fist or the screwdriver, if he was able to hit the owl’s body, he might be able to injure it severely. However, it was difficult for it to lose its ability to fly and fight back.

Therefore, his target was clear. It was the owl’s eye!

It was the eye that he had punched before and had yet to completely recover!

The owl did not expect Xiang Kun’s reaction. It was smarter than usual owls and could tell that Xiang Kun was enticing it with his own blood, forcing it to attack. However, it could not resist the temptation and it did not want to resist it any further.

Based on its judgement, Xiang Kun’s first reaction should be to dodge before attacking again, just like what he had done beside the lake. Therefore, the owl did not attack with all its might initially. It was confident it could catch Xiang Kun after he dodged, then it would bring Xiang Kun into the sky and into its “battleground”.

However, Xiang Kun did not dodge. Instead, he went head on to receive the attack. Moreover, because of the owl’s wrong calculation and with its injured eye, Xiang Kun was able to grab onto the owl in midair!

When Xiang Kun caught the owl, he forcefully inserted the screwdriver into its eye. Then he pulled it out before inserting it again!

With a painful moan, the gigantic owl fell from the sky, rolled down the mountain, and hit a tree trunk. The screwdriver flew, but Xiang Kun still held on tightly to the owl.

The owl did not die immediately. It was forcefully springing a counterattack. Both parties fought on the ground, much more violently than before.

The warm sun rays shone on Xiang Kun’s face, causing him to open his eyes.

He realized that he was lying on the hill. One of his legs was on a tree branch, while his body was stuck in a bush. He looked like a S shape.

He moved his leg on the tree branch and rolled down the hill. He stopped after hitting another tree.

Xiang Kun stood up and touched his injured back. He rubbed his head and looked around.

He was still on the mountain. Judging from the location of the sun, it was morning.

However, Xiang Kun knew that it had been more than only a few hours since he fought with the owl.

He looked up and saw many broken tree branches on the hill. It was a messy scene, and the last place he fought with the gigantic owl.

Xiang Kun crawled up towards the place where he lost consciousness. Apart from his shoe, there was no trace of the gigantic owl or any of its feathers.

However, Xiang Kun knew that the owl had not flown off.

He was very certain that before he fell asleep, the owl had died in his arms and he had drunk a large amount of its blood.
