“Call the police and the ambulance!”

After putting the aggressor down, Xiang Kun rushed over to check on the young couple. Both of them were hurt with multiple stab wounds in their limbs and torsos.

Recently, Xiang Kun had been reading medical articles and learning about first aid. He did a quick check on the victims to make sure that there were no fatal wounds. Then he asked them to stay still and press on their wounds until the ambulance arrived.

It didn’t take long before the police and the ambulance came. The aggressor, who was still unconscious from Xiang Kun’s punch, had been tied up all over by the shop owner and other residents of the neighborhood.

The couple and the bandit were immediately taken to the hospital.

According to the doctor, the stabs were not deadly, and the couple would be safe.

As for the aggressor, his nose was broken and there was a possibility of a concussion. But he wasn’t in critical condition either.

Xiang Kun was relieved. To be honest, the strength of his punch was unexpected even to himself. He had underestimated the power of his fist before he landed the blow. Seeing the man collapse and his face ruptured, Xiang Kun almost thought that the man was dead.

By right, Xiang Kun would not be charged with murder even if he had really killed the man on the spot, because it would certainly qualify as justifiable self-defense. The aggressor’s first reaction after rolling onto the floor was to pick up his knife, which was witnessed by the shop owner and the surveillance cameras nearby.

However, there would have been a series of problems if the man had died, as Xiang Kun’s secrets might have been exposed.

After that, Xiang Kun and the shop owner were led to the police station for a written statement of the incident. Both of them were witnesses of the violence, and Xiang Kun was directly involved in suppressing the perpetrator.

In the police car, the officer in the front seat assured Xiang Kun that he wouldn’t be in any trouble, as they had verified with the surveillance footage that Xiang Kun’s actions were justifiable. Xiang Kun would be released once they had gathered the information relevant to the case. Furthermore, the officer asked him whether he had any injuries that needed medical treatment.

By no means would Xiang Kun visit the hospital. Besides, he was not hurt at all. All he had done was throw a kick and a punch and the aggressor was laid down.

The officer was concerned because Xiang Kun was covered in blood—not only his hands, but his face as well. He looked like he was in a worse state than those on the ambulance.

The shop owner, who was seated in the back together with Xiang Kun, had not stopped talking since they got into the car. He kept on telling the officer about how the bandit had attacked the couple and then started praising Xiang Kun for his impressive fighting skills.

Now Xiang Kun knew that the perpetrator was actually the girl’s ex-boyfriend, who had also come to look for trouble in the previous month. A fight had almost broken out that time too, but it had been prevented due to the interference of the girl’s current boyfriend’s friends.

However, they hadn’t expected that the guy would come with a knife this time.

Xiang Kun kept quiet during the entire ride unless questions were targeted directly at him.

His attention was all focused on himself.

Earlier, he had experienced an impulse for feeding when he saw the profusion of blood during the fight.

But his blood-thirst was controllable, probably because he had just woken up from a post-feeding sleep the night before.

Moreover, Xiang Kun had actually licked off the blood on his arms inconspicuously when he raised them in a gesture of wiping his sweat.

He was glad that human blood posed no particular attraction to him compared to rabbit blood.

In the past, there had been a constant worry lurking in the bottom of his heart that he might have to rely on human blood for survival in the future. That was hard to accept for him.

After making a quick written statement at the police station, the officer arranged for his people to send Xiang Kun and the shop owner home.

It was already past 11 PM when Xiang Kun reached home. He headed straight to the bathroom and slaughtered the rabbit that he had just bought in the morning. Then he poured himself 50 ml of blood and finished it.

From the way he felt, it was verified again that there was no difference between human and rabbit blood.

Undeniably, though, he could feel hunger to some extent when he saw blood. But after the 50 ml, Xiang Kun did not finish the remaining blood. Instead, he packed the dead rabbit in a rubbish bag and threw it away.

It was because he did not want another 25 hours of sleep, and he wanted to restrict his need for blood.

Xiang Kun sat down in front of his laptop. After a moment of reflecting, he recorded his observations of the day in a document.

There was one thing that particularly stood out in today’s incident, which was the fact that Xiang Kun had been in full control of himself during the entire process. This was why he had been able to pause his attack in time once he realized that his first punch had been too heavy.

This was somehow abnormal to him.

Xiang Kun was not a bold man. He had seen similar cases when he was still a college student. One day, two gangsters were chasing a schoolmate of his with knives in their hands. Failing to escape, the student was stabbed several times. Luckily, he had not been handicapped, but he was hospitalized for half a year and the scars were permanent.

That time, Xiang Kun was only 30 meters away from the attack. He was walking with other students from his department. Upon seeing the violence, his blood went cold and he hid behind his friends subconsciously. The thought of stopping the aggression did not even occur to him. His hands were still trembling in fear after the gangsters were suppressed by the security officers and the injured student was sent to the hospital.

Xiang Kun could almost be certain that his old self would never have garnered enough courage to stop the fight himself if these physical changes had not happened to him. He would have called the police from his room at most.

However, there had been no trace of worry or fear when he saw the armed aggressor earlier, as if he was absolutely sure that the person could pose no threat to him.

It was like an instinct.

Xiang Kun examined his hand. Apparently, the punch was extremely heavy, but there was no injury to his fingers or knuckles, not even abrasions.

An idea emerged in his mind. Xiang Kun sterilized the knife he had used to kill rabbits and slowly cut his finger.
