Trying to Make a Living in Another World with a Bottomless Appetite - Chapter 34

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

Whenever George fully entered the state of eating, he became an eating machine and lost all sense of his surroundings.

A huge bite of meat, a big glup of soup, rinse and repeat.

Celia was of course completely used to this.

Celia looked at Siluca whose small mouth was gaping open and couldn’t help but tease,

“Is Daddy’s appearance scaring you?”

Roar!

Celia couldn’t tell, because she was human, but Siluca, with its animal instincts, could clearly sense the threat George posed in this state.

Especially since Siluca possessed exceptionally sharp senses, it experienced the intimidation from George even more keenly than it otherwise would.

It was the kind of intimidation those at the top of the food chain exuded to those beneath them.

Siluca was scared. But more than that, she felt lost.

If George hadn’t signed a contract with Siluca while it was still an egg, which wound their fates tightly together, it was highly likely that Siluca would have ran away then and there.

Although she couldn’t see Siluca’s fear, Celia was worried that George’s current state would scare the young dragon. So she kept stroking Siluca’s nape and massaging it.

Perhaps it was because of Celia’s comforting, but Siluca did eventually settle.

As George ate, everyone in the Volcano Giant subconsciously lowered their voices.

There was an unwritten rule in the Volcano Giant, no, in the city of Gainsborough.

If you saw George eating, keep quiet and whatever you do, do not disturb him.

If you found George eating alone without his companion, then be even more quiet. If you value your life, never disturb George when he’s eating.

Once George was immersed in eating, he became a true predator.

This was not a joke.

There was once an unfortunate incident that happened in Gainsborough. Back then, George and Celia were both fresh off the boat, nameless and inexperienced rookie adventurers.

Naturally, there were people who didn’t see eye to eye with George and wanted to pick a fight with him.

After all, bullying rookies was the hobby of many scumbags.

Many people witnessed this incident, and if these witnesses were still alive today, they’d probably regret not taking the initiative to put a stop to things

Ding Dong!

“This is the place, Clayton.

“Boss, I’d like to place an order!”

The doorbell rang, and with it, the alarm bells of all the customers in the restaurant. Everyone immediately turned to look at the person who was chewing on a roasted demon ox leg.

George.

But George didn’t have any strong reactions. He continued concentrating on the beef leg in his hand.

At the same time, everyone, including the boss had been cooking, looked over with a frown.

Typically, after George enters eating mode, whichever shop he was in would put out a signboard that said “George is In” at the door.

The whole point was to warn incoming guests to be careful when they came in to not make too much noise.

Some shops would even refuse new customers once George has entered to avoid trouble. Since all their stock was taken care of anyways, why not just close the shop for good?

Ol’ Lasov sighed. As George hadn’t visited for a while, he had forgotten to take down the doorbell while the younger man ate.

But still, something’s not right. There should be someone standing guard by the door.

Gainsborough, being the City of Adventurers, received many out-of-town folks on a daily basis. So, just to be on the safe side, once the sign was hung up, there would be kitchen staff assigned as last-minute guards to stop people from entering.

However, once these two newcomers came in, Ol’ Lasov noticed that he couldn’t see the hide nor hair of said kitchen staff.

What was going on?

Filled with these doubts, Ol’ Lasov looked over. And with just a glance, he knew why his kitchen staff didn’t dare to stop these visitors.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to stop them. He was too afraid to.

Because the visitors were none other than Saintess Vanessa and her Guardian Knight, Clayton.

Setting aside whether or not the two kitchen staff outside knew who the two of them were. Their outfits alone meant his staff wouldn’t have dared to even make contact with them.

Come to think of it, he had indeed heard that the Saintess had arrived at Gainsborough’s Divine Temple a while ago. This was probably her.

Ol’ Lasov could sense from their considerable aura that they weren’t weak. He thought for a while, took a look at George then said to Vanessa,

“I’m sorry, but all our food today has been reserved for that person.”

Vanessa wasn’t bothered by the rejection. She looked at the assistant behind the Ol’ Lasov who was busy processing ingredients and said,

“But I see you have plenty of food, can’t we get some too?”

“I’m sorry, but it’s a matter of principle. First come, first serve. That customer has already asked for it.”

“How about this? I’ll foot his bill so give me some of his meat.”

Hearing the commotion, Celia also looked over. She frowned and looked at Vanessa, who was chatting with Ol’ Lasov with slight puzzlement on her face.

She didn’t know their identity, but she could tell that the two of them were from the Divine Temple.

Why were the people from the Divine Temple here?

Since she had nothing better to do, Celia began to think about Vanessa’s motives. From the looks of it, it seemed like she came here to eat.

And in reality, it seems like she did come here to eat.

There was too little information for Celia to figure anything out.

However, if she added one more condition, then there was another possibility Celia could think of.

If she had an ulterior motive and wasn’t food, then who would her target be?

Was she here for George?

Various possibilities kept appearing in Celia’s mind, but she rejected them all.

She casually took a piece of meat from George’s table and brought it to Siluca’s mouth.

Roar!

Siluca took a big bite of the meat and tried to wolf the food down much like George was doing.

It seemed that the dragon hatchling was more adaptable than Celia had expected. After confirming that George had no intention of eating it, Siluca relaxed and even began to imitate George.

Siluca held the meat Celia fed it with both paws while the image of George eating reflected its eyes.

Seeing Siluca break out into a smile, Celia took another piece of meat from George’s table and this time, fed it to herself.

If there was anyone in this world who could get away with stealing food from George, it would be Celia.

“Forget it. I’ll just go ask him.”

Seeing that Vanessa was about to disturb George, Ol’ Lasov dropped the food he was preparing and hurried forward to stop her.

“Wait, Your Holiness!”

Unfortunately, Ol’ Lasov was behind the counter. There was no way he could stop Vanessa in time.

“Hello, are you interested in sharing a table?”
