Jian Sangyu heard Gu Chen’s question. But she was not planning on answering him. She turned deaf ears to his question and walked over to Jian Jialang after putting down the wine goblet, ignoring Gu Chen completely.

Gu Chen followed after watching Jian Sangyu leave for a few seconds. Jian Jialang was presenting a gift to Mother Jian and he was asking Jian Sangyu to join him.

Gu Chen saw Jian Jialang giving Mother Jian a new silk scarf from B as well as telling her words of sweetness. Mother Jian was so pleased yet Jian Sangyu said, “I have a special present for mom this year.” Jian Sangyu smiled. And then she said slowly, under the gazes of everyone, “I will play a song for mom.”

Mother Jian did not lack anything, so she was actually quite glad to hear that Jian Sangyu was going to play a song.

Jian Sangyu was a professional pianist, and she had won numerous international and domestic prizes and trophies since she was little. Jian Sangyu had gained a reputation for herself in the piano field, but after she was married, she stopped attending contests and answering performance invitations, gradually fading out of the public view.

The guests became excited. Everyone who knew Jian Sangyu understood that she was a genius piano player, a role model for every other family to take for their children.

There was a black grand piano in black in the Jian Family’s living room. It belonged to Jian Sangyu who didn’t bring it with her after she got married, because Mother Jian said that the piano could come in handy for Jian Jiayue who could learn to play the piano as well.

But as a matter of fact, Jian Jiayue had not yet even learnt how to read music after so many years, and Jian Jialang was the only person who touched the piano on his holidays.

As Jian Sangyu sat down in front of the black piano and in the dazzling red dress the piano suddenly became her background.

As the music rang out and her fingers glided over the keys, she created an unfathomably deep river of black for the audience whilst she, Jian Sangyu, was the Goddess of the river. She looked exactly like a flower dipped in blood, sexy and dazzling against the black color of the piano.

Gu Chen didn’t understand music very well. He had no idea what Jian Sangyu was playing, but he could tell by the fascinated expressions of the audience as well as the fierce look of Jian Jiayue who was standing next to Mother Jian.

Gu Chen threw a profound look at Jian Sangyu’s back that was partly hidden.

Why was she lying?

She had gotten a very expensive ruby necklace for Mother Jian and he saw that in the drawer of her makeup desk, there was also a card next to the box on which, ‘To Mother, May you have youth forever and a life-time happiness’ was written.

Gu Chen could tell that Jian Sangyu had written the card. Why didn’t she bring the box with her when she left? She had a present ready for her!

Had she forgotten about it?

Why wouldn’t Jian Jialang remind her either, if she didn’t remember?

But today, she suddenly replaced her present that she had prepared for mother ages ago with a piano song.

After the song was finished, everyone present praised and applauded her, whilst Jian Jialang clapped so hard that his palms almost broke.

As everyone was speaking highly of Jian Sangyu, both parents of the Jian Family felt that Jian Sangyu had earned them a good reputation today.

Everyone except for Jian Jiayue, who clapped with a forced smile on her face. As everyone around her was speaking so highly of Jian Sangyu for being good-looking and intelligent, she was on the verge of exploding from jealousy.

Jian Sangyu walked down from the piano with her dress in her hands. She came over to Mother Jian and gave her some words of blessing, none of which was from the card Gu Chen had seen.

Maybe it had been because of the sweet words from the guests, Mother Jian had a gentle grip upon Jian Sangyu’s hands, and she looked very kind as well.

At this moment, Mother Jian was very proud of Jian Sangyu for being her daughter.

Gu Chen didn’t go up to disturb her, but Jian Jiayue couldn’t stand it any more. She had a tight grip upon her own palm so much so that she almost bled.

If she had not left home when she was little, if Jian Sangyu had not enjoyed all the fun at home in her place, then it would have been Jian Jiayue sitting in front of the piano and receiving the compliments of the audience.

She was the daughter of the Jian Family and she should be the pride of Mother Jian and the girl praised by everyone else. Jian Sangyu was nothing, and she didn’t deserve all of these things!

She was elegant, but that was all because Jian Jiayue was bitter!

“Mom.” Jian Jiayue went over to Mother Jian and sounded a bit wronged. But people who didn’t know her would not have noticed that. “Didn’t you have something to talk about with Sangyu?”

Mother Jian’s face stiffened. Then it gradually disappeared.

She suddenly felt quite guilty when she saw Jian Jiayue feeling wronged.

“Sangyu, you haven’t been home for so long. Come upstairs, I have got something to tell you.” Mother Jian patted Jian Sangyu’s hand and her smile was quite awkward.

Jian Jialang thought for a moment and caught up with them. “Mom, I haven’t been home in so long either. I want to talk with you guys too!

Mother Jian was startled. Anxiously, she said in a hurry, “What are you making a fuss about? I am talking with your sister and this is none of your business.”

Having said those words, Mother Jian took Jian Sangyu upstairs. Jian Jiayue followed them behind.

Maybe no one other than Gu Chen had noticed the sneering smile from Jian Sangyu who just turned around and walked upstairs.
