The Tycoon God of Online Gaming - Chapter 7

Random missions were unfixed and unexclusive. Usually, these missions became available by chance.

For new players, experience points and rewards from these missions were quite significant. Even when the rewards were only ordinary equipment, they still allowed players to level up at a faster pace. Here, the spawn rate of this equipment was extremely low, and it was easier to acquire equipment through missions.

Random missions were missions of a medium level, and often offered much better experience points and rewards than ordinary missions.

Chu You ran quickly towards the call for help. In a patch of dense bushes, Chu You moved forward with great difficulty, before climbing on top of a huge rock. Immediately, his view widened and he was able to see a small waterfall below him, and below that, a swamp. The height difference between Chu You’s location and the waterfall was not too great.

An intelligent NPC old man, who looked like a Herbal Medicine Harvester, was being torn apart by two grey wolves. The old man howled in pain, using a wooden stick to hit the wolves frantically.

Chu You locked on to the old man and realized that he did not have many health points left. If this continued, he would be killed by the wolves, which meant that the random mission would disappear.

Chu You quickly scanned the terrain, and slid down along the rock. When he landed, his health points displayed -20. It wasn’t very graceful, but it was much better than jumping down directly.

He unsheathed his training sword and rushed towards his target.

The wolves were still intent on attacking their prey and were oblivious to the movement behind him.

When Chu You was only two meters away from the wolves, he was within the attacking range. He lashed out and swung his sword.

The wolf that Chu You attacked howled and turned on Chu You. Chu You swung his sword at the other wolf, and the two wolves both gave up on the old man and began to attack Chu You.

With his experience, Chu You responded calmly.

With nimble movements and quick awareness, he avoided the attack by the grey wolves, and sought the chance to counterattack.

After a further -30 cost in health points, Chu You killed the two wolves.

Putting his sword away, Chu You quickly walked over to the old man, who was lying on the ground.

The old man was moaning in pain, both hands clutching his wounded leg. Blood seeped out from the wound.

“How are you?”

The old man opened his eyes and said gratefully, “Thank you, young warrior, for saving my life. But I can’t move my leg.”

“What can I do for you?”

Chu You knew that he could not be too casual when talking to NPCs in random missions. In Heaven, all the NPCs were of high intelligence and were as smart as humans. If he was too dismissive in his speech and actions, the situation might become awkward.

“I am collecting medicine to cure a lord, can you help me? I can’t move now,” the old man said. He took out some ointment from his basket to put on his wound.

“I accept the mi… oh, no, I’m willing to help you. So tell me, what do you need me to do?” Just then, the system displayed a notification with the choice to accept the medicine harvester’s mission. Chu You accepted.

The old man painfully turned around to look at the waterfall. Immediately, a few firefly-like bright spots appeared on the rock walls within the ordinary-looking waterfall.

At this point, Chu You’s heart skipped a beat. He knew what he was about to face.

“This is great! In the waterfall, there is a small secret environment. Young warrior, I need you to get the blue magic flower. The leader has it, at the deepest area.”

Chu You nodded. “Okay, don’t worry. I will help you retrieve the flower.”

Chu You then walked towards the small waterfall.

“Wait!” the medicine harvester’s voice rang out from behind Chu You.

Chu You turned his head slightly, standing straight, and awaited a hint from the old man.

“Young warrior, you have to remember, the secret environment is split into three levels. Pick the easiest one and take care not to pick the other two. Your level is too low. Frankly, you may not even be able to complete the simplest level,” warned the old man kindly.

Chu You nodded again and walked into the place with the instance mission. “Thank you, I know,” he said.

The ordinary-seeming waterfall had become the entrance to the instance mission. Only Chu You could enter the instance mission; other players would be unable to enter the area even if they wanted to.

System Notification: Would you like to enter the “Nest of the Poison Spider”?

Chu You selected: Yes!

System Notification: This instance mission is split into three levels. They are Normal, Hard and Nightmare.

A moment of thought fleeted through Chu You’s eyes, but he steeled his gaze and selected the most difficult Nightmare Mode.

All instance missions in Heaven were split into three levels, of which the hardest was the Nightmare Mode. In other words, it was known as Death Mode.

Instance missions in Nightmare Mode had a higher drop rate for both items and experience points, but these missions were impossibly difficult.

Chu You’s body dissolved into a glow of light and disappeared within the waterfall, entering the instance mission.

Moments later, Chu You appeared in a quiet and dark environment. Behind him were rocks that sealed his way.

With his mind, Chu You opened the mission interface.

Mission Name: The Old Herbal Medicine Harvester’s Entrustment

Mission Prompt: Pass through the “Nest of the Poisonous Spider” and reach the deepest point. Kill the leader of the poisonous spiders, retrieve the mission item “Blue Magic Flower” and pass it to the Old Herbal Medicine Harvester.

Mission Reward: ?

Chu You grinned when he saw the “?” as the mission reward. He knew that this meant the instance mission would vary the reward based on the difficulty level. The more difficult the mission was, the better the reward.

Chu You walked forward, as it was his only way to go. This was an underground cavern with tunnels that interwove with one another. Once in a while, the screeching of some unknown species would be heard from afar. This made the cavern especially creepy and terrifying.

Chu You observed the terrain as he walked. He knew that instance missions on Nightmare Mode spawned only elite monsters. The best way to fight was one-to-one. If two or more monsters appeared, the single player would either die, or…

Chu You did not enable running posture, as he needed to save his stamina for later, during key moments.

Not long later, Chu You’s path was blocked by a spider. The spider was very big – its body was about the size of a goose.

Chu You did not enter his opponent’s detection range. Instead, he stopped to observe his target.

White Sac Spider, Level 5, One-Star elite. Monsters in instance missions usually had much worse vision than monsters in the wild. This was because there was little space in instance mission dungeon. If the monsters could see the player from afar, then the player wouldn’t stand a chance.

After observation, Chu You unsheathed his training sword and approached carefully. When he stepped into the ten-meter range of the white sac spider, the spider knew that an attacker was approaching.

The White Sac Spider raised its horrible head and let out a terrifying screech. Its eight legs pumped as it rushed towards Chu You.

Chu You immediately made his decision. His opponent was low in speed. If he turned on running mode, his opponent would never catch up.

Their distance grew closer, and the fight was about to begin!

Chu You had an excited expression – he was thrilled. Such a difficult challenge filled him with exhilaration.

The White Sac Spider immediately raised its fore legs and took up an attacking pose against Chu You.

Chu You stepped back and avoided the attack. At the same time, he thrusted his sword forward.

-20

Chu You’s attacking power was 45. 20-point damage was not bad, as the difference in level between Chu You and the spider was significant.

One-Star elite was the lowest level of the elites. As a Level 5 elite monster, the white sac monster was much stronger than normal Level 5 monsters in terms of both attacking speed and movement speed. At the same time, the damage dealt by the spider was also formidable.

After it missed the first hit, the white sac spider followed up and attacked Chu You again.

-49

Chu You’s health points decreased immediately by 1/5. However, he showed no sign of panic. He allowed himself to be hit on purpose, as he wanted to see how much damage his opponent could deal him, so that he could anticipate the fight.

Since he knew all about his opponent, Chu You began to counter the fight seriously.

Using the complicated terrain, Chu You quickly arrived by the stone column, locking the white sac spider in his eyes coldly.

Another attack came. Chu You used the stone column to dodge the attack. Bracing against the column with his hand, he revealed half his body and stabbed at the white sac spider with his sword. He adjusted his relative position with the white sac spider behind the column immediately after he dealt damage. This was because if he fought directly, he would be unable to win. The opponent had high attack, while Chu You had low health points.

Hence, a scene where Chu You engaged in guerrilla warfare with the white sac spider unfolded.

Usually, when the white sac spider was about to attack, Chu You would hide behind the stone column.

With this strategy, Chu You was able to exhaust the Level 5 One-Star elite monster. His experience points increased at a visible rate. Usually killing monsters above one’s level offered little experience, but killing an elite-level monster in single player mode offered many experience points.

The Battle Godhead Form lived up to its name – if there wasn’t the boost from the form type, he would be unable to critically hit the white sac spider. Chu You thought about this as he headed deeper.

Chu You observed the terrain carefully as he advanced cautiously.

He had to find a place to ‘hide’!

Chu You knitted his brows. He had not been able to find a “safe area.”

Not long later, two white sac spiders appeared ahead of him. Chu You observed for a moment and discovered a “shortcut.”

Chu You creeped towards a lava wall on the side. As long as he did not make noise and remained ten meters or more away from the spiders, the spiders would not be able to spot him. What if he made a sound though?

If he made a sound, then the monster nearby would close in on the source of the sound. Not too much, maybe two, three meters, but if the player kept emitting noise, the monsters would keep moving closer before finally entering the range of detection.

Chu You cautiously walked on the uneven stone wall, taking care of his feet movement while he observed the spiders not far away from him.

Finally, Chu You safely avoided the spiders and entered deeper into the cavern.

There were no forked roads – only a straight path all the way to the end.

He kept walking forward, meeting a few single white sac monsters. One versus one, Chu You confidently eliminated them and levelled up by one level, to level 3. The game server had only been open for a short four hours, but Chu You had already reached Level 3. It was safe to say that he was in first place.

Game time passed by slowly, as it had a ratio of 2:1, relative to real time. Every two days in game, one day passed in real life. This meant that 48 hours in the game world was equivalent to 24 hours in real life.

Not long afterwards, Chu You furrowed his brows, as it seemed that he had discovered a “dead end” ahead of him.
