The Seventh Base - Chapter 24

Chapter 24 It’s A Younger Brother

Bai Wei sat with her face resting on her right palm in the general store. It was as though she was thinking of something and was a little lost in her thoughts.

“Young lady!” At the entrance, a blond-haired old granny reached out her hand and waved it in front of her.

“Ahh…” Bai Wei was stunned for a moment and then said a little anxiously, “Auntie, I’m sorry. Is there anything I can help you with?”

“A packet of hardtack.” The old granny smiled and said, “You’re learning all the bad things from that kid Xu Mo. Why are you calling me auntie like him? I’m already so old.”

Bai Wei took a packet of hardtack and handed it over, smiling. “Auntie is still young.”

“You’re really sweet.” The old granny felt especially happy even when she was paying.

“Auntie, take care.”

After sending off the granny, Bai Wei’s expression fell. She mumbled to herself, “What are you thinking about?”

She was often lost in her thoughts recently, occasionally thinking of the cold Hunter she had met in the black market. She did as he had told her to and settled down in this area. However, it had been some time since then, and he hadn’t appeared to look for her.

Maybe he would never appear again.

“But after I’ve earned money, I’ll return the money to him,” Bai Wei thought.

“Elder Sister Bai Wei.” A voice rang out behind her. Hearing this, Bai Wei turned over and broke into a smile. She said, “Good morning, Xu Mo. Are you heading out?”

After they came back the other day, they seemed to be acting a little differently. No one mentioned what had happened, but both Xu Mo and Miss Mia were very quiet that day. In the following few days, neither of them talked about it either. However, Bai Wei could sense that Miss Mia’s attitude toward Xu Mo seemed to have changed a little even though she couldn’t put it into words.

“Mn, I’m going out for a walk,” said Xu Mo with a nod and a smile. After what had happened the other time, he hadn’t gone out and had been practicing his breathing art.

“Come back soon,” Bai Wei said.

Xu Mo then walked out of the general store and saw a figure walking over. It was Elsa.

Elsa had taken the effort to dress herself up. She didn’t have the noble air she had had in the past. Instead, she seemed to have additional hints of innocence, emitting a faint smell of perfume. After seeing Xu Mo, Elsa smiled sweetly and called out, “Xu Mo.”

“Miss Elsa. Miss Mia is upstairs. You can get Elder Sister Bai Wei to help you call for her,” said Xu Mo before he turned to leave.

Elsa was stunned for a moment as she looked at Xu Mo’s back view, seeming to feel a little upset. It seemed that Xu Mo bore a grudge against her, but it wasn’t as if she had done it intentionally.

These few days back at home, the more she thought about it, the more she felt that something was amiss. Xu Mo didn’t seem like an ordinary servant, and it wasn’t just Xu Mo. She also realized that the coachman her father had arranged for her wasn’t a simple character either.

Moreover, were those music pieces really created by Mia?

Given her understanding of Mia, there was a high possibility that it wasn’t the case.

Then other than Mia, who else could it be?

She thought of Xu Mo’s actions as well as Mia’s attitude toward him. After that, she came up with a guess.

Xu Mo might have extraordinary aptitude in music.

Moreover, he was smart, brave, and fearless.

If only he wasn’t a servant!

Xu Mo didn’t know that Elsa had thought so much into things. His understanding of Elsa was that she was a proud young girl, who didn’t have a bad nature and originated from quite a good family in the Subterranean World.

As for the other things, he wasn’t interested.

The black market was lively and chaotic as usual, with people seen fighting everywhere. There were naturally a lot of women calling out for customers too.

At this moment, Xu Mo observed the unit numbers in the black market, his eyes darting around. Under his powerful perception, the black market’s unit numbers were presented clearly and orderly in his mind.

He then continued to head forward along the black market’s streets, passing through them. Gradually, he started to move away from the black market’s prosperous main street and headed for a side street.

Being a corner of the black market, this place was a lot quieter than the black market’s main street. The people here were mostly the native residents of the black market.

Right now, Xu Mo stopped in front of a store and looked up. The unit number clearly wrote No. 425!

He sized up the store in front of him. It looked very small and the things inside were a little messy. There was only a young man about his age sitting there looking bored as he played with a rubik’s cube. His speed was very fast, being able to solve the cube in a matter of seconds. He then kept on repeatedly messing up the cube and solving it with great mastery.

This store alone looked pitifully small, but the back was very big, like a huge box. There was clearly a completely different world inside. After that, Xu Mo’s eyes looked inside, and he noticed a metal door that blocked his perception.

Xu Mo walked up and before he could say anything, he heard that young man, who had his head lowered and was playing with the rubik’s cube, said, “Not open for business.”

Xu Mo took a look at the store. It looked like a hardware store but also a mechanics repair store. It was a mess.

“I’m looking for someone,” Xu Mo spoke up.

Only then did the young man raise his head and looked at Xu Mo. He wasn’t too surprised to see Xu Mo wearing a mask. There were all sorts of occurrences in the black market.

Xu Mo saw that the person looked very young, possibly younger than he was. His hands were very fair.

He squinted his eyes and asked, “Who are you looking for?”

“Sister Die!” Xu Mo said.

“I don’t know her.” When the young man heard Xu Mo’s words, there weren’t any changes to his expression. He continued to lower his head and play with the rubik’s cube, as if he really didn’t know that person. This made Xu Mo feel a little doubtful if he had come to the wrong place.

Xu Mo then took out a dagger and placed it on the table.

At this moment, the young man’s hands suddenly stopped, and he stared at the dagger on the table. It wasn’t very shiny and didn’t look too sharp, but there were two words engraved on it-Skywalk!

“Where did you get this?” The young man raised his head and his eyes squinted into a line, staring straight at Xu Mo with a hint of coldness.

“Someone gave it to me. He told me to look for Sister Die,” Xu Mo replied.

“Who?” the young man continued to ask.

“Church!” Xu Mo said.

The young man stared at Xu Mo for a moment and then jumped off his seat. He closed the store and turned to say, “Come with me.”

Xu Mo made his way around the table and entered the store’s interior. There was another narrow gate inside. After passing through it, there was a metal door that Xu Mo couldn’t see through. The guy placed his palm on one spot, and the metal door instantly opened, causing Xu Mo to reveal a hint of surprise.

After the metal door was opened, there was another narrow passageway. The young man gestured for Xu Mo to enter, and the latter entered without any hesitation. The young man then followed after him and closed the metal door.

It was like an enclosed space inside. After passing through a long and narrow passageway, Xu Mo looked in two directions and his pupils contracted slightly.

This place was like an old and abandoned factory, moreover, it looked like a munition factory. There were weapon parts everywhere.

In this abandoned factory, there were many assembled guns and all sorts of weapons. In the middle, there was also an old fighting arena.

A muscular man who was bare to the waist appeared before him. He was two-meter tall and had firm muscles all over his body. Since Xu Mo entered, the man had been staring at him.

Bang!

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, causing a tremor in this enclosed space. The sound was a little piercing to the ear, but Xu Mo didn’t show any reaction. He had known about this in advance.

Someone was practicing shooting in front.

Gunshots rang out consecutively, and Xu Mo stopped after arriving at the shooting range. In front of him, a woman wearing black tightly-fitted leather clothes was practicing. After that, Xu Mo took a look at the moving targets, which had been hit in the bullseye.

A short moment later, the woman finally stopped. She turned around and sized up Xu Mo.

Xu Mo also sized her up. Her black tightly-fitted leather clothes brought out her curves perfectly. She had a perfect S-shaped figure, a small oval face, and her long black hair was tied up.

It wasn’t just her figure. There was nothing to pick about her looks, height, and disposition. Even in his previous life, Xu Mo had never seen a woman of this level.

“It’s her!” Xu Mo thought in his heart.

The young man from earlier handed the dagger Xu Mo had brought to her. He then mumbled a few words softly. The woman listened quietly and stared at Xu Mo, asking, “Hunter?”

“That’s me.” Xu Mo nodded.

“Buzz!” The woman suddenly moved, taking two steps to the front and raising her long, slender, and beautiful leg. She erupted with extremely ferocious power, filled with a violent sense of beauty. The front of her high heels came sweeping out toward Xu Mo’s face horizontally like a dagger.

Xu Mo had perceived it the moment she made a move. He inclined his body backward, and the high heel brushed past his face, coming to a stop unreasonably. It then moved down in a straight line. At this moment, inertia seemed to have lost its effect.

Xu Mo kicked his right leg to the ground and retreated back. Right now, his physique was no longer what it used to be in the past.

The high heel landed on the ground, making a sound, but the heel didn’t break. The next moment, the woman charged forward and kicked out once again toward Xu Mo. This kick was very fast, and Xu Mo had predicted her movement trajectory, but he was still unable to dodge it completely.

Hence, he didn’t dodge but put out his hands to grab her leg. Without any surprise, he grabbed her ankle. However, a tremendous force came down, and he was unable to strip away the power.

Pffft!

Xu Mo was hit. However, he was stubborn and didn’t let go, continuing to grab onto her leg and wanting to bring her down together. After that, the woman’s body flew up, sweeping the other leg toward him. Seeing this, Xu Mo had no choice but to let go, using an extremely forced movement to dodge the second attack.

Xu Mo kept on backing off consecutively, taking a look at his chest which was in a bit of a pin. However, the other party had held back. She had withdrawn some power when she hit him.

“Your reaction speed isn’t bad,” said the woman while staring at Xu Mo. “Where are your hidden weapons?”

“There’s no need for that, right?” Xu Mo replied.

“Why did you appear at the church?” asked the woman.

“To attend a concert,” Xu Mo answered.

The woman was a little surprised as well. She looked at Xu Mo and said, “Since you’re already here, shouldn’t you be more open and show some sincerity?”

Hearing this, Xu Mo took off the cloak’s hood and removed his mask.

Since he had decided to come here, he naturally had things planned out. He could tell from the experience the other day that they were from a special organization. Since he was already here, it was probably not possible for him to leave without exposing his identity.

After taking off his mask, Xu Mo revealed a slightly young face, which caused the woman to be stunned for a moment. When Xu Mo had just arrived, she was very composed. This continued until she realized that the ‘Hunter from the fighting arena turned out to be a young man who was about 15 or 16 years old.

“To think that it’s a younger brother!” The woman suddenly smiled sweetly with a hint of enticing charm!
