The Seventh Base - Chapter 23

Chapter 23 Blade Dyed In Blood

The light continued to flicker endlessly, and the buzzing sound of flowing electricity kept on ringing. Both the blade-wielding man and the man in leather armor watched as the magician’s assistant fell under the flickering light.

Under this eerie atmosphere, Xu Mo, who was holding a sharp tool dyed in blood, stood there like a ghost.

The blade-wielding man’s reaction was very fast. He could vaguely make out Xu Mo’s location under the flickering light. Right away, his body moved forth and his electric blade came slashing down at Xu Mo.

“Buzz…” However, an electric current turned into a bolt of lightning and came shooting down at this moment. It illuminated the darkness and was glaring to the eyes. It then blasted straight onto the blade-wielding man. As a result, electricity flowed through his body, causing his body to convulse a little, but his blade attack still continued toward Xu Mo.

This blade attack was as fast as lightning, carrying electricity with it. If one were to be hit by it, they’d definitely die. However, under this eerie environment, it was as if Xu Mo could see clearly. He moved his body forward and dodged this attack by moving at an almost perfect angle to the right. At the same time, he used all of his strength to toss the sharp tool in his right hand, aiming for the enemy’s throat.

Although the electricity couldn’t harm the blade-wielding man, it still numbed his reaction. As a result, he couldn’t stop his forward charge, and the flying sharp tool pierced his throat with a horrifying power. The blade-wielding man’s eyes then opened wide and stared in front, his electric blade falling onto the ground. He could only grab that sharp tool with both hands, while his blood was gushing out. That hidden weapon, which seemed to be extremely sharp on all four sides, had pierced into his throat.

He wanted to speak but couldn’t say a word. A few moments later, his body moved back a few steps and then fell to the ground.

The lights had gone out. With only a little bit of light rays coming in from outside the church, they could only see vague shadows.

Uncle Fang then saw Xu Mo’s back view and felt a little baffled. Was this the young man he had just seen on the streets? This young man seemed to have been born as a killer, cold and merciless, killing with one strike.

Also, Uncle Fang saw that hidden weapon clearly. It was the same one that Hunter had used in the black market. From this, he had figured out who Xu Mo was. However, he didn’t expect Hunter to be so young.

“Are things taken care of?” A figure walked out from the end of the corridor. It was the priest. In the poor lighting, he could vaguely see a dark figure standing there, but he couldn’t see who it was.

“Mn,” Xu Mo replied. He then picked up the blade on the ground and walked toward the priest. The priest saw the blurry figure getting close to him. Through the faint lights, he then saw Xu Mo’s face and not the blade-wielding guy’s.

“You are…” The priest’s countenance directly changed and he wanted to flee. However, Xu Mo’s body already sped up and his palm locked onto the priest’s face, pressing the priest into the wall at the end of the corridor.

Chi!

As the blade cut the priest’s throat, his gaze revealed extremely intense horror. He then held his throat with both hands. His body kept on convulsing. At this moment, Xu Mo looked like a grim reaper.

“God wants to see you,” Xu Mo whispered softly to the priest’s ears. He then let go of the priest, whose body fell to the ground weakly, his eyes still open.

After that, Xu Mo took the blade and headed back, stopping when he passed by a room. He turned to look inside.

Susie had run into this room and locked the door.

Seeing that it was a wooden door, Xu Mo thrust his blade out.

The blade was very sharp. When it pierced the door. Susie, who was inside, screamed in horror.

It was as if the blade had eyes. It sliced through the door lock in the shape of a ‘C’. After that, the lock was cut off and Xu Mo pushed the door open directly.

Susie screamed in horror as she looked at the figure who had pushed open the door and entered. However, when she saw that it was Xu Mo, she was stunned for a moment and her screaming stopped.

Under her suspicious gaze, Xu Mo took two steps forward, grabbed onto her mouth, and slit the blade gently at her throat. He then moved back, not letting the blood splatter on him.

Susie stared at Xu Mo with a horrified gaze, holding onto her throat and falling to the ground. Who was the actual thug?

After Xu Mo was done with this, he returned and tossed the blade next to the blade-wielding guy. He then whispered next to the ears of Uncle Fang, who hadn’t left, asking, “Who are they?”

Uncle Fang was extremely weak right now, but he seemed to be waiting for Xu Mo here. When he heard Xu Mo asking that, he broke into a smile, not showing any fear of death.

He knew that he had met someone of his kind.

Uncle Fang then reached into his clothes with his left hand, took out a dagger, and handed it to Xu Mo. He said softly, “Black market No. 425. Look for Sister Die.”

Xu Mo took the dagger from him. After that, Uncle Fang said softly, “I was the one who has done everything here. You should return to the room.”

After saying that, Uncle Fang headed in the direction of the stairs.

Xu Mo didn’t leave and continued to stand in the corridor, watching the other party leave. Through his perception, he could tell that there were already people surrounding the church.

He knew that Uncle Fang wouldn’t be able to survive.

Although he stood on the spot, his gaze seemed to follow Uncle Fang. He then saw the other party walking down the stairs and out of the church. Before Uncle Fang stepped out, there were already many guns aimed at him. The law enforcement team had arrived.

At the sight of this scene, Uncle Fang paused in his footsteps. He didn’t wear any horror but a smile on his face as he continued to walk out. His steps were weak but firm.

After that, gunshots rang out and many bullets consecutively hit Uncle Fang’s body. His resolute face was mashed up and his upright figure fell.

The moment before his death, Uncle Fang raised his head and looked toward the artificial light. He seemed to have seen the ‘light’!

Xu Mo saw Uncle Fang fall. After that, he retrieved his hidden weapon from the corpse’s throat and headed back along the corridor. The corridor was horrifyingly quiet, and one would be able to hear vague sobbing sounds.

His footsteps were very light. After heading to the washroom to wash off the blood on his hands and on the hidden weapon, Xu Mo returned to the room. Although Mia was perplexed, she didn’t ask what Xu Mo had gone to do. As for the other witnesses, they were all dead.

The church was surrounded by people, who came rushing over from all parts of the main city district after hearing the news from somewhere. All of them were filled with intense rage.

There had been many cases of abductions in the main city district recently, but they didn’t expect that the base for these incidents was the sacred church. Hence, when they saw many children walking out in tattered clothing, their rage rose to a peak. There were even people cursing the city administrator. How could this happen under their management?

The people who came rushing over weren’t just the law enforcement team but also the city guards. They forcibly kept the people away, not allowing them to barge into the church.

At the church’s entrance, the leader of the law enforcement team, Song Si, was holding a long smoking pipe as he glanced at the rowdy crowd. There was a faint hint of disdain in his

eyes.

When he saw Irina walking out of the church, Song Si handed his pipe to a subordinate, tidied his clothes, and then went up to her. While bowing, he wore a smile and said, “Miss Irina, I’m sorry that you’ve been alarmed.”

People came out in succession from behind Irina, including many children. They were all wearing tattered clothings, and some of the children’s clothes even had traces of blood on them. Their gazes looked empty as they looked at the outside world in horror.

Right now, there was a layer of frost on Irina’s face. Her gaze was filled with fury, and she stared at Song Si, asking, “Why did something like this happen in the church of the underground city-state’s main city district?”

“It was my negligence. We have shot down one of the thugs, and there are two others on the run. We’re doing our best to apprehend them.”

“I’m not referring to them,” Irina said coldly. “You should do a thorough check on everyone in the church.”

“Miss Irina, please rest assured. We have everything under control.” Song Si took a look at some of the people behind Irina and asked, “What about them? Do we need to investigate them?”

“The people who came to attend the concert are all victims. If you need any statements, you can just ask me. I witnessed the entire event,” Irina spoke up.

“Yes, Miss Irina.” Song Si nodded.

“And these kids, help them find their parents,” said Irina as she looked at the child next to her. She had clearly found out about the darkness hidden by the church.

“For sure.” Song Si kept on bowing and nodding.

Xu Mo and the others had come out. After that, Susie’s corpse was carried out. She was the only death amongst those who came to attend the concert. She had died from having her throat sliced by the thug with a blade.

The girls who came with her covered their mouths, all of them shocked. However, Mia’s expression was a little complicated. Was Susie the only one who had died? When the thugs appeared, Susie pushed her and almost caused her and Xu Mo to die.

“Elsa, let’s go back,” Mia said to Elsa, who was next to her. She didn’t wish to stay here anymore. “Mn.” Elsa nodded.

“Miss Mia,” Irina called out. Hearing this, Miss Mia turned and looked at her.

“I’m sorry about this concert. I hope that in the future, there’ll be chances for me to listen to the music pieces created by Miss Mia,” Irina apologized.

“It isn’t Miss Irina’s fault. There’ll definitely be chances in the future,” Mia replied.

“Mn.” Irina nodded and handed her something that looked like a name card. She said, “If Miss Mia encounters any problem in the future, you can come to look for me.”

Mia took a look at it. Although she wasn’t going to use it, she still received it politely and said, “Thank you.”

“Goodbye.” Irina smiled and nodded.

After saying that, she took a glance at Xu Mo who was next to Mia.

“Goodbye, Miss Irina,” Mia replied. The few of them then headed toward their horse carriage. However, this time around, there was one more of them. It was A’Tai’s daughter. Xu Mo planned on sending her back to look for her mother personally.

After that, the horse carriage left the crowd and moved away from the church.

It was a little quiet in the carriage. Both Mia and Elsa were silent. Everything that had taken place to them was too shocking for them, so they were still feeling unsettled.

“A Xin!” At this moment, a voice rang out. Xu Mo saw a woman running frantically in their direction.

“Mommy!” The girl next to Xu Mo called out.

“Stop,” Xu Mo spoke to the coachman. The girl then jumped off the horse carriage and ran toward the woman. The two of them then locked in an embrace and cried.

“A`Xin, mommy has been looking for you all this time,” said the woman while crying. She had lost A`Xin in the main city district, so she hadn’t left this place all this while. When she heard the matter about the church, she came rushing over.

Xu Mo also got off the horse carriage and stood not far away from the mother and daughter. When he heard their conversation, he felt very sad.

“Mommy, Elder Brother Xu Mo knows daddy.” A Xin turned and looked at Xu Mo.

The woman instantly turned her gaze toward Xu Mo, asking, “Do you know where A`Tai

is?”

Xu Mo didn’t reply. Instead, he folded a piece of clothing and handed it to the woman. “Don’t let other people see this. Lead a good life with AXin in the future.”

After saying that, Xu Mo rubbed A Xin’s head and turned to the horse carriage. “Let’s go.”

The woman watched Xu Mo leave, having a vague understanding of what had happened. She secretly opened up the clothing and took a look, then quickly folded it back. She took A`Xin’s hand and bowed in the direction of the horse carriage.

On the horse carriage, Elsa and Xu Mo felt a little strange when they looked at Xu Mo’s back view. What was it that Xu Mo needed to wrap with newly bought clothing?

However, neither of them asked him. After what had happened today, their impression of Xu Mo changed completely.

“Elder Brother, does Elder Sister A`Xin not have a daddy anymore like Yao’er?” Yao‘er asked Xu Mo innocently.

“Yao’er has Elder Brother.” Xu Mo hugged the girl into his arms and said. The girl leaned in his embrace and smiled sweetly!
