The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion - Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Prologue (2)

“I brought the water to wash your face, my lady,” said Venia, the maid, who knocked on the door upon hearing Raeliana’s frantic scream.

Raeliana’s strange ritual of screaming every morning before dusk persisted for two months now, but Venia was an experienced maid. Smiling, she causally let her employer’s eccentricity slip by.

Venia gently brushed Raeliana’s long hair while she washed her face. Feeling the fluffy tower against her face, Raeliaa looked in the mirror. Fluffy light brow hair ran past her waist, emerald green eyes twinkled, smoothly curved chin with peach-colored cheeks and dainty facial features adorned her. She had the sort of beauty that drew attention within the walls of the capital that did not lack in beauty.

It’s strange looking at myself every day.

The face she had known for the past twenty years had changed. Two months was not enough time to adjust to everyday life. Fortunately, she was gifted a beautiful face; Raeliana McMillan was born beautiful.

“You should go eat, my lady,” Venia said.

As she examined her own face, Raeliana nodded. “Okay.”

Heading toward the dining room on the ground floor, she saw her father, Johndein McMillan, fold the newspaper and greeted her from the drawing-room with a smile.

“Did you sleep well, Raelie?” he asked.

“Father…”

As Johndein stretched out his arms, Raeliana took a step back, hesitantly approaching him for a hug. He kissed her cheeks and led her to the dining room.

“Raeliana!”

Her littler sister Rosemary, who had been sitting at the table swinging her fork, ran toward Raeliana’s legs. Raeliana picked up Rosemary and walked to the table.

Hands on her waist, Katie, her mother, scolded Rosemary in a stern voice and said, “Rose, I told you not coddle her so much.”

“Madame, please come sit before the food gets cold,” Johndein said gently while pulling out of the chair and inviting Katie to sit.

Katie chided with a smile. “You’re too soft.”

Raeliana took the fork from Rosemary, who babbled about on and on about her flying through the midnight sky, and sat down at the table.

The atmosphere at the table was full of warmth. The reason she was able to adapt to being Raeliana in the novel had much to do with the McMillan’s love and care. Two months was not enough time for her to accept them as her family, but it was enough that they held a place in her heart.

They calmed and comforted their distraught daughter who was confused about everything overnight, ordered everything in the mansion to meet her needs, and took care of her sincerely.

Thanks to their efforts, the longing for the previous world she lived in or her apprehension about the current world subsided significantly.

“So this contract…”

“John, please don’t talk about work at the breakfast. You agree with me, don’t you Raelie?” Katie asked.

Raeliana nodded while munching on the greens served on an ornate plate.

Raeliana McMillan was the eldest daughter of Baron McMillan. Johndein McMillan had hit the riches with the oil business and the House of McMillan was what one would call the nouveau riche that had acquired the title of baron due to their significant wealth.

Nouveau riche or not, it did not bother Raeliana since she had come from a world where riches meant everything. Rather, she was thankful that she had been given a chance to life a comfortable life of wealth and a family’s warmth.

She, who had become Raeliana, initially sighed in relief upon realizing that she had reincarnated as a happy-go-lucky child. Had Raeliana McMillan been a regular person… a lot of thoughts would have swirled around her constantly, but God had given her one darn short of a straw to draw.

This was the world within a novel and Raeliana McMillan played a very insignificant role. Even worse, her role was to die at the beginning of the story, which prompted the protagonist to return from studying abroad.

Yes, Raeliana McMillan lived a short and happy life as a noveau rich.

“Oh, that’s right, Raelie. Lord Brooks is to arrive at six tomorrow.”

“Pfft!” Realiana involuntarily snorted out the tea she had been sipping on after breakfast. “Wh-why?”

“What do you mean why? The royal ball is tomorrow.”

Francis Brooks. He was Raeliana’s fiance.
