The Omnipotent Queen in an Interstellar Age - Chapter 11

Lan Jiao was not feeling very happy these days.
She had been on Planet Trash for almost three months now. Her skin was extremely tanned and her body had become skinny. She used to be a chubby girl with fair skin, a few weeks ago.
Although she now had a better body shape, her skin’s condition was terrible.
The radiation on Planet Trash was too strong!
Only three months had passed but her skin had turned from white to bronze.
She was a 17-year-old teenage girl, one who was supposed to be good-looking, but now…
Girls liked to have a pretty face, and it was no different for Lan Jiao.
After sorting out her food issues, now she had other goals.
Seeing her ugly face, Lan Jiao was extremely unhappy.
Even though she had been cooking various kinds of food these days to keep her stomach satiated, she felt terrible at the sight of her looks.
Lan Jiao sighed and became a bit jealous of Mi Lai as she looked up and saw this clingy boy.
Mi Lai had spent three months on Planet Trash as well, but his skin was still fair and tender!
Moreover, he had gained quite a lot of weight after eating Lan Jiao’s delicious food during the past one month. Ironically, he had been super skinny earlier.
Dressed in clean clothes and with no dirt on his face, Mi Lai had the air of a Young Master belonging to a noble family.
He didn’t look like an exiled criminal of Planet Trash. He was more like a hidden king of some country!
Mi Lai did not know what Lan Jiao was thinking.
All he did every day was follow Lan Jiao and her orders. He was happy as long as there was food waiting for him at the end of the day.
Whenever he found time, he offered to catch insects voluntarily and helped Lan Jiao with the harvest.
Mi Lai did not get bored doing it over and over again.
Seeing Mi Lai so devoted to the laborious work, Lan Jiao did not need to worry much. She was now able to eat Nature Food every single day.
Since the value of Nature Food was too high for ordinary soldiers to afford, the insects that Mi Lai caught, became the soldiers’ favourite food and they were constantly running out of supply.
Probably because of Lan Jiao’s obvious annoyance, Mi Lai finally noticed the curious behavior of his master.
“What is wrong with you, Lan Jiao?”
Mi Lai was busy gulping down a large bowl of red bean and date porridge that Lan Jiao had just boiled.
He noticed that Lan Jiao did not seem to have an appetite for the porridge, even if it smelled appetising and looked delicious.
She had not touched the porridge even when the rice became thick.
This was abnormal!
They might not lack food at the moment, yet Lan Jiao was a foodie who was always ready to eat. She could not possibly show such disdain towards the dish without a reason.
“I want to leave Planet Trash.” Lan Jiao replied with a sigh.
She did not lack food or drinks on Planet Trash, but the environment was way too horrible.
Affected by the living conditions, her appearance had already undergone a huge change. The radiation and pollution was not only harmful for the skin but also caused a lot of damage to a person’s health.
If she continued to stay here, she would drop dead someday because of some unexpected disease.
On this planet, apart from the locals who were able to withstand the harmful environment, even the strong residing soldiers would get transferred to another planet every second year.
Even the locals, who seemed to be able to tolerate the conditions, were deeply affected by the environment in the long run.
In this highly developed Interstellar World, the average lifespan of human beings had reached upto 300 years, but the locals on Planet Trash did not survive beyond the age of 50. Post that, their health would decline rapidly and only a few of them made it above 60.
After considering all these factors, Lan Jiao became more and more determined to leave Planet Trash.
Hearing what Lan Jiao said, Mi Lai was not surprised at all.
“Yes, you are right. We should not stay here for too long. I heard that some exiled criminals died a couple of days ago. They came here at the same time as we did.”
Mi Lai knew that he would already be dead had it not been for Lan Jiao.
When he first heard about those deceased criminals, he felt that he was really lucky that Lan Jiao had helped him and kept him by her side.
“Sigh!” Lan Jiao continued to lament.
It was just a matter of time before all the exiled criminals died on Planet Trash.
But for the abundant food that kept them alive, she and Mi Lai would have collapsed ages ago, as well.
Seeing her look so depressed, Mi Lai realized that Lan Jiao might not know that the exiled criminals had a slim chance to leave Planet Trash.
“Lan Jiao, actually…”
“Lan Jiao, I am here to pick up today’s food for Uncle!”
Before Mi Lai could finish his sentence, Ken showed up and interrupted him.
Ken was not willing to come here, actually. He felt that he was not a patroller any longer, but a logistics soldier who was on a food delivery duty.
All he did every day was travel between Lan Jiao’s room and his uncle’s place, delivering two meals a day.
There were times when he had to deliver the food to his uncle wearing an anti-acid raincoat, when the caustic acid rain poured down heavily.
During the past one month, his uncle had only consumed the food made by Lan Jiao. It was as if he had gone mad.
Ken had done the calculations. His uncle might have used up his entire salary, which he had earned during the past ten years, on his meals during the past one month.
“Sigh…”
Ken sighed as well. Uncle was a single, old man who had saved some money to get married after finishing the mission on Planet Trash.
But now, he had spent all that money on food!
Did his uncle think that food was more important than a wife?!
Ken was complaining inwardly, but he did not mention a thing to his uncle. This was his choice, after all.
Seeing Ken come in, Lan Jiao pointed at the porridge in front of him tiredly and said, “Just take this.”
She had been overwhelmed and distressed these past few days, and was not in a mood to cook anything innovative. So, she had made some porridge today to complete the task.
Sensing the heavy environment, Ken did not say anything but took the box away.
After all, he was just a delivery man.
Sometime later in the captain office of District Nine, Captain Kite felt his heart break at the sight of the porridge.
For some reason, he found the quality of food provided to him during these past few days was declining!
He remembered that last month, he was eating the extremely delicious three-cup chicken and deep-fried meat which had almost made him bite his tongue off, not to forget the refreshing mung-bean smoothie porridge. But now, look at what he got…
