“Not too late, am I?”

Grinning, Yatok bandaged Yu Yi skillfully, as he gave him first aid. His smile was a hurried one, though. Yatok and Opaci were both wearing parachutes. However, compared to this, the wounds on their bodies drew more attention.

“Not too late, but I was seconds away from certain death.”

Fortunately, there was a doctor in the team. Otherwise, a deBUFF at the level of a broken rib was potentially fatal. This meant that the wounded would lose health points at fixed intervals, on top of limitations placed on actions such as running. It further represented a loss to various checks. If there were no doctors, Yu Yi would have pretty much died this round. Although the game was coming to an end, given the current rate, they would probably see their ends before daylight.

But that didn’t matter. Now, the worst ending would be Ending 1 – where the event is solved and the investigators die. The entire reason why Yu Yi threw the molotov cocktail was a huge gamble. He had no way of knowing that the consequence of the simple molotov cocktail was this serious, which was good in a way. After this event, there would definitely be investigators coming to the Floating Island. Too many people had died for this place to remain. No matter living or dead, the event would be solved.

However, this was with regards to the entire instance mission. For the players, death meant that the event would have ended, not unlike a game of Werewolf. The characters the players were playing as were essentially themselves. Once the main characters die, the game ends. It didn’t matter if the villains or humans had won. The ingenuity of the game design shone like this. The system would calculate and determine the results of each action by the players. Even if the players die, the event would still be resolved.

“Have you experienced battle already?”

Opaci’s head was still bandaged. His clothes were a mess too.

“Ah, we made too much noise when we were jacking the car and were attacked by some Mi-Gos. Not a big deal, though.”

“Talking about the car. What was the deal with it?”

Yu Yi was confused by the other car that rammed towards the witch earlier. His two teammates were both in this car, so how did that car even move?

“I just played a Luck check, and the dice we rolled gave us one point of mechanical boost. So, I was able to remotely control that car with my phone. Super simple.”

The phone used to remotely control the car was Yatok’s. This way, Opaci could drive the car without having to remotely control the other car at the same time.

“Alright, how did you know I was in trouble?”

Opaci proudly shook the small device in his hand after hearing Yu Yi’s question. The device’s screen displayed the scene at the high-altitude surveillance area. The contraption was operated by his phone, which was connected to a portable battery. Obviously, his phone was connected to the cameras, which acted as some sort of CCTV. It wasn’t clear where exactly Opaci placed the camera, but everything in the high-altitude surveillance area could be seen.

“Boss, I was sure that you would go to the high-altitude surveillance area if you wanted to delay the enemy. So, when there weren’t as many people, I left the camera there. Tourists who come here are usually quite well-off, so no one would steal the camera, especially when it’s a situation where someone has died. I’ve camouflaged it too.”

Obviously, this novice would grow to be a very talented player. He had even considered this possibility. Even if there was a good chance his efforts might be in vain, he still made the necessary preparations. Just like Yu Yi, he had made lots of redundant arrangements. When unrequired, these efforts would seem quite useless, but in key moments, they never failed to serve as a bailout.

“But that witch was really scary. She split the car in half in one slash. That’s not possible by human standards.”

Yatok was slightly terrified by the BOSS. That remote controlled car was meant to force the witch to dodge aside, so as to make some extra time to save Yu Yi. However, the enemy had split the car into two.

“The design of that NPC is quite strange. To put it simply, she is invincible in this plot and probably won’t be wounded by any attack. However, if she doesn’t dodge or shield from our attacks and get hit in critical areas, she will instantly die. We need to be careful,” Yu Yi explained. He had heard this explanation from the KP. Raising his head, he asked, “Where are we going next?”

“Here.”

Opaci pointed at the navigation device on the car.

There was thick mist everywhere and the way forward was almost completely obscured. However, with the help of satellite navigation, it wasn’t that big of a problem. The place Opaci was pointing at was extremely close by.

“We’ll drive the car through the safety glass and fall downwards. It’s solid ground below, so we don’t have to worry about landing at sea after opening our parachutes. I don’t believe that the BOSS will follow us all the way to the ground.”

Suddenly, the car began to shake violently. Yu Yi turned around and looked at the rear window. The witch, holding her Tai Sword, seemed just meters away.

“Grieving ghouls never disappear! Opaci, accelerate!”

“Understood!”

Opaci put his foot to the metal. Although there was the navigation device, it was extremely dangerous driving this fast in the thick mist. However, with the BOSS right behind, they couldn’t spare a thought for safety.

“Yu Xing, don’t you still have that pistol ability? Hold this. I got it from that old woman. She said that she didn’t need it anyway. There’s only 10 bullets, but it’s probably more than enough.”

Yatok fumbled through his backpack and took out an ancient Colt M1911 pistol. Just as Yu Yi was about to inspect the ammunition, he suddenly felt chills from danger. He immediately pushed Yatok’s head down while crouching at the same time. In the next instant, an icy gleam flashed as the car’s roof was sliced clean off.

“Wow, that’s so exciting!”

Opaci’s head felt cold. Fortunately, the car was fast enough! If not, his head would be sliced into two like the seat!

“Yeah, it’s supposed to be! Accelerate! We’re almost there!”

Yatok howled, before proning on the rear seat. Yu Yi inspected the bulletproof vest on him before aiming the pistol towards the back. However, the enemy had disappeared. No… it was only right that he didn’t see the witch. They were in thick mist after all! Why was he able to see the witch just now?

In an instant, danger struck once more. The white blade slashed towards Yu Yi’s hand. It seemed like the enemy didn’t plan on killing him just yet.

‘Bang!’

A gunshot rang out. The bullet flew towards the blade. The .45 caliber bullet was obviously not as strong as the Tai Sword and was split into two. However, this slowed the enemy down and bought them some time. Opaci was able to increase the distance between them and the witch, causing the slash to fall short.

“Hold on! We’re going to be struck!!”

It was Opaci’s voice. Yu Yi immediately ducked and grabbed the car. They felt a strong impact before the glass shattered. Moments after, Yu Yi and company broke out of the red mist and fell downwards.
