The Great Trump Card - Chapter 93

Lin Huai heaved a loud sigh as he walked out of the hotel. What a pity! I couldn’t even manage to grab a bite and now I have to go back.

After giving it a thought, he decided to go over to Li Qianqian’s house instead. In the meantime, he would try to figure out a solution to the problem. The issue now was that the other party involved only gave him a duration of one week. If he refused to accept their terms, there would inevitably be terrible bloodshed. Hence, Lin Huai needed to come up with a well-thought-out plan as soon as possible.

Lin Huai took a ride to Li Qianqian’s house. During the journey, he received an unexpected phone call from an old acquaintance. Lin Huai glanced at the phone number and the word ‘Li’ was displayed above it. Lin Huai’s expression turned serious after he saw the name. He immediately picked up the call and said, “Hello, Uncle Li.”

A few coughs could be heard from the other end of the line. Then, a voice that sounded slightly aged asked, “Lin Huai, I heard that you were fired by Wei Sihai. So what now? Are you planning to return to the office or stay there for a little longer?”

“Uncle Li, I have a few more matters to settle over here.” Lin Huai’s tone was solemn and serious. Feel free to contact me anytime if there’s any other mission available once I’m done, but I won’t be able to receive any mission at the moment.”

“Oh,” sighed Uncle Li. “Did you get into trouble again?”

Lin Huai laughed as he touched his nose. “I guess there’s nothing I can hide from you, Uncle Li.”

Uncle Li laughed. “Well, this old man is the one who understands you the most in this world. It’s okay. Just go ahead and find a solution when you face difficulties. You’re free to come back anytime you want. The company is mine and it will be yours in the future. It will be passed down to you one day, so you can make the decision yourself.”

Lin Huai was deeply touched. Uncle Li was the company’s most mysterious existence. There were not many people in the whole of Huaxia who knew the actual boss of Dragon Shield Bodyguard Group was. There were even less bodyguards in the company who knew about their boss’s identity and Lin Huai happened to be one of them as his existence was the most special one among them. Uncle Li had told him on his first day of work that the company would be passed down to him one day; if he could no longer move anymore, the company would then belong to Lin Huai.

Although not everyone in the company would be happy with his decision, Uncle Li had absolute power and his words would not be taken back once they were said. Even Lin Huai was powerless to decline the offer. He wasn’t sure why Uncle Li thought so highly of him, but the reason was later revealed by Uncle Li himself. One of the reasons was because of Lin Huai’s capability and talent, while the other reason was because of fate.

Lin Huai did not know what Uncle Li meant by fate. Maybe Uncle Li felt more connected to him and found him endearing. Although it was difficult for other people in the company to have the opportunity to encounter Uncle Li—most of them had never even seen him before—Lin Huai often got to see him, anytime he wanted to, even.

Lin Huai’s heart was stirring inside as he said, “Uncle Li, you’ve always been too kind to me. As you already know, I lost my father at a very young age and no one has ever cared for me the way you do…”

Uncle Li laughed. “Don’t you try to get all sentimental with me here! Who do you think I am? I’ve told you from the very beginning that we’re fated to meet and fate is in the hands of God. Let’s drop the formalities, shall we? Moreover, I value your talent. You’ve already become a team leader in the company at such a young age. One day, you’ll become the company’s top-ranked bodyguard and that day will come very soon.”

Lin Huai took a deep breath and responded, “Uncle Li, just remember what I’m going to say next—one will sacrifice his own life for the valor who recognizes his worth.”

Uncle Li said in a serious tone, “I don’t want you to die. I only need you to live well. I’ve also looked into the situation in Tongcheng ever since you went there the last time. The dark forces over there are pretty rampant. Although you’re quite strong and most people will not be able to defeat you now, you’re only one person after all and that’s not enough to go against the local gangsters. Hence, it will be wise to avoid causing too much trouble. If there’s no choice and you really do get into trouble, just tell me. No matter who the other party is, I’ll send people over to help you settle the score!”

Although he was deeply touched inside, Lin Huai laughed heroically and said, “Uncle Li, you belittle me too much. I’m going to be the strongest ace bodyguard in the future. How can I achieve my dream if a little Tongcheng is to defeat me now? Don’t worry and leave all the matters here to me.”

“All right. Go ahead and boldly do anything you want. I won’t disturb you anymore. Give me a call if you come across any problem at all.”

Lin Huai gave his promise and ended the call. Then, he leaned back on the chair and started thinking about Uncle Li. He had already learned his skills when he left his hometown back then. After that, he ended up meeting Uncle Li on the train. Coincidentally, there was a robbery onboard, which he helped to stop. Uncle Li then came up to him and started chatting with him. He asked Lin Huai what his dream was and when he said it was to rid this world of all evil, Uncle Li immediately showed interest in him, and asked Lin Huai if he wanted to work with him. Thus, he ended up in Dragon Shield Group and has been for three years now.

The corner of Lin Huai’s mouth lifted to show a gentle smile. Although he had yet fully come to terms with his father’s disappearance back then, Uncle Li’s presence in his life provided warmth in his heart.

Unknowingly, the taxi had arrived at the destination. The driver urged as he turned to look at Lin Huai, “Hey, it’s time to get off.”

“Okay.” Lin Huai took out the fare and handed it to the driver. Then, he got out of the taxi and walked straight to the door of the apartment. He knocked on the door and Li Qianqian came over to open it. She then said to him with a serious look on her face, “There’s someone waiting for you inside.”

“Oh?” Lin Huai tried to guess as he answered. He followed Li Qianqian into the apartment and saw two well-built bodyguards standing in the living room. They stole a glance at him when he entered, but fixed their gaze straight ahead afterward.

Lin Huai asked softly, “Who is he? Where’s the person?”

“He’s upstairs in the study. I never expected him to come. He told me he guessed that you’ll be coming over to my place…”

Lin Huai’s eyes glinted as he snickered, “Is it Wei Sihai?”

“Yes. Do speak nicely to each other and not act rashly,” Li Qianqian said worriedly.

“Don’t worry. He’s Mianmian’s father after all and we haven’t completely fallen out yet,” Lin Huai promised as he headed upstairs after changing into his slippers.

When he arrived at the study, Lin Huai knocked on the door gently and sure enough, it was Wei Sihai’s voice coming from within. “The door isn’t locked. Come in.”

Lin Huai immediately turned the doorknob, pushed the door open, and walked in. Upon entering the study and seeing Wei Sihai sitting on the office chair, Lin Huai could not help but laugh as he said, “Mr. Wei, is it appropriate for you to come into a woman’s house directly like this?”

Wei Sihai replied when he saw Lin Huai entering, “ Sit down and let’s chat for a while.”

“That’s great. I want to have a good chat with you as well.” Lin Huai was all smiles as he settled himself on the sofa.

Wei Sihai looked at Lin Huai and examined him before saying, “Mr. Lin, you didn’t disappoint me. You even managed to turn things around in a chaotic place like Yulan College. I’ve heard that the Dragon Shield Bodyguard Group is the top bodyguard company in Huaxia. As expected, their bodyguards are of exceptional standards.”

Lin Huai laughed as he replied, “So you’re here to express your gratitude?”

“Yes, of course. You helped us a great deal and I have come to express my gratitude.” There was a smile on Wei Sihai’s face. “Furthermore, I’ve prepared one million as extra remuneration for you. As for my daughter, since the disciplinary standards of the school have taken a turn for the better, she does not need protection anymore. I think it’s time you head back to the Dragon Shield headquarters. I can book a flight ticket back for you. ”

Lin Huai snickered, “You seem eager for me to leave early.”

Wei Sihai replied with a laugh, “Not everyone can afford to hire bodyguards from the Dragon Shield Bodyguard Group. I do not dare to waste any more of your precious time.”

Lin Huai’s eyes glinted and he jokingly answered, “That’s alright. I’m not worried about wasting time at all. Mr. Wei, I currently have a thirst for knowledge as I’m already in school, it’s just the right time for me to increase my knowledge. I know this is your school, but I believe you won’t be so petty as to chase me out of school, right?”

Wei Sihai frowned a little and immediately followed with a smile. “Of course I won’t. However, Yulan College is not very famous. If you really want to further your studies, I’m sure you will be able to enroll yourself in a top-ranked college with the strong backing of the Dragon Shield Group. If they can’t help, I can.”

Lin Huai burst into laughter.

Wei Sihai looked at Lin Huai in surprise and asked, “What are you laughing about?”

Lin Huai said with a laugh, “I think we should stop beating around the bush and just speak our minds, shall we? Mr. Wei Sihai, I think there’s a hidden motive behind your attempt to chase me away. Is the current situation in Yulan College not what you want to see?

At first, Wei Sihai pretended to be shocked. However, his look of surprise disappeared once he saw a faint smile on Lin Huai’s face when he was looking at him. His face darkened and his tone was serious as he said, “I suggest that you leave as soon as possible. Otherwise, I will not even be able to save you. You don’t know anything about the actual situation here. I admit that you’re very capable, and even Li Tie acknowledges you as an ace. Nonetheless, one cannot fight the power of many. I find it hard to believe that the fists of one fighter will be able to defeat a group of men with knives.”

Lin Huai asked, “What else?”

“And… I admit that the change in Yulan College is good, but to many others, you’ve meddled with their share of the cake. I’m a businessman. Have you heard of a saying in the business sector?”

“I’d like to hear about that.”

“To destroy one’s path to riches is the most heinous act!”

“To destroy one’s path to riches is the most heinous act…” Lin Huai mumbled to himself and then laughed as he said, “That’s ingenious and very true indeed. Mr. Wei, can I ask you something? Did I also meddle with your share of the cake?”
