The Great Trump Card - Chapter 77

Everyone’s eyes lightened up and sparkled. Lin Huai was right, they would rather die with honor than to live a cowardly life! One should have done something interesting when they were still alive and kicking!

Wu Jun was the first to declare, “Brother Huai, I will have no complaints no matter what, even if we would be in immense danger and difficulties.”

Others also joined in and said, “Brother Huai, I stand on the same ground as Wu Jun.”

“Me too.”

“Very well.” Lin Huai then spoke with confidence, “Then I will continue to discuss my next plan.”

The weekend went by quickly. The news of Lin Huai’s detention had spread throughout the campus, and Wei Qimian was also put on house arrest by Wei Sihai. She couldn’t go anywhere, so she ended up sitting on the couch with her legs crossed, pouting and displaying her displeasure on her face.

However, those bodyguards standing behind her were all men who had undergone professional training. If they were normal men and not professionally trained bodyguards, they would have relented upon seeing her like this, but they remained professional and stood conscientiously behind her.

Wei Qimian’s phone rang at this moment; she quickly picked up the call and heard Li Qianqian’s voice on the other side of the call. Li Qianqian told her, “Mianmian, Lin Huai has asked me to tell you to not worry about him. Don’t go to school these few days. Wait for him to settle things first before you return to school again.

Wei Qimian responded in surprise, “He contacted you? He didn’t pick up my calls today.”

Li Qianqian laughed as she said, “He was worried that you would let the cat out of the bag. Lin Huai told me to tell you to not to mention to anyone that he had requested me to contact you, not even your father.”

“Alright.” Wei Qimian had a glint in her eyes as something crossed her mind briefly, then she replied, “Understood.”

Li Qianqian grunted her response and both of them hung up the call.

As Wei Qimian stood up, the bodyguard behind her said hurriedly, “Miss Wei, the boss has given his order that you can’t go anywhere today.”

“I’m going back to my room. Do you guys want to follow me as well?”

Those bodyguards exchanged glances and responded quickly, “We will just stay here. You can call us anytime.”

Wei Qimian snorted at their responses. She then turned around, walked into her room and closed the door. As she sat down on the bed, her brows wrinkled slightly and she muttered to herself, “That’s strange. Why didn’t he allow me to inform my father? Could it be that he is suspecting that my father is doing something behind…”

Those terrible thoughts that she had never dared to think about started to spread throughout her mind.

Meanwhile in the school, even before the classes had started, the former underlings of Wu Shanhe had all been injured. Those people who refused to obey had all been beaten into a pulp and ended up in the hospital. Everyone from the business major eventually decided to submit to Zhou Minghu.

Zhou Minghu was behaving like he had been possessed by the devil. He did not lay hands on those two female-dominated majors—the music and the art majors—but other than those two majors, he started his campaign of bringing all the class leaders under his wing, with the help of his own people; even the computer science major couldn’t escape this fate. They had only been Lin Huai’s followers not long ago and once they heard that Lin Huai had been detained, the computer science major basically gave up on resisting and submitted to Zhou Minghu.

It was noontime after school when five people were seen standing behind Gao Mengchao on the music major’s rooftop. Those five people were actually the well-known Five Golden Flowers, also known as the Five Red Canes serving under Gao Mengchao.

There was a chunky girl who looked like she weighed approximately 200 pounds. She was Gao Mengchao’s first-ranked Red Cane, Wu Chunli.

The cold and indifferent-looking girl who was wearing a leather vest was the second-ranked Red Cane, Li Yueting.

The petite and impish-looking girl with canine teeth was the third-ranked Red Cane, Wang Xin, also known as Cutie Wang.

A tomboy who looked exactly like a young man was the fourth-ranked Red Cane, Li Yuexuan.

Then the last one was the fifth-ranked Red Cane, Liu Meiqi.

Liu Meiqi had always been exuberant, but this day, she pulled a long face instead.

The cheeky and cute Wang Xin giggled. “Meiqi, did you just go through a break up? Don’t tell me you are sulking over here because Lin Huai has been detained?”

“So what if it is the case?” Liu Meiqi said angrily, “It was obvious that those people laid a trap for Lin Huai. Why weren’t they caught? Why was Lin Huai the only one detained?”

Wang Xin tittered. “It seems like Meiqi has fallen in love.”

Wu Chunli seemed to be on close terms with Liu Meiqi, so she glared at Wang Xin and said, “Cutie Wang, stop picking on her. She is not in the mood right now.”

“Exactly!” Liu Meiqi gazed toward Gao Mengchao who stood in front of them with a pitiful look on her face and asked, “Big sister, is there any way we can bail Lin Huai out right now?

“Do you really think we can move the heavens on our own?” Gao Mengchao was initially standing with her back facing them, but she turned around and glanced at Liu Meiqi, sounding gloomy as she sighed, “It seems like we have miscalculated. I foresaw that Lin Huai and the sports major people would have a battle, but I didn’t expect them to make such a big mess on this matter. Zhou Minghu was indeed vile to the extreme, it was really beyond my expectations. It seems that I have lost to him this time.”

Wang Xin responded, “But even though he took in all the people from other majors, he didn’t lay a hand on the people from the music and art major. Everyone knows that both female-dominated majors are under your protection. I think he is still wary of us.”

“Wary of us?” Gao Mengchao snickered. “Well, the first possibility would be that he is truly wary of us, which shows that he still has half a brain. He dares to offend anyone, but he still wouldn’t offend me. The second possibility would be just that he can’t be bothered to lay a hand on us as we are just a bunch of girls who pose no threat to him. The school is currently under his rule, and we’ll have to accept the reality no matter what.”

Wang Xin sighed. ”How could Lin Huai and Wu Shanhe be defeated so soon?!”

Gao Mengchao replied, “Wu Shanhe was never a match for Zhou Minghu. He is undefeatable in a one-on-one duel, but if one wanted to be a gang leader, the person would not only need to possess individual physical strength but he also needs to be shrewd, whereas Wu Shanhe was clearly not good at strategizing. I’ve heard someone say that Zhou Minghu had manipulated him this time, which directly caused him and Lin Huai to suffer from great loss. It was such an obvious trap but he still fell for it, which could only prove that Zhou Minghu didn’t even bother to deal with him before this in order to maintain the balance of the school, otherwise he would have lost long before this.”

Wang Xin, however, argued, “Wu Shanhe is still a capable person as his underlings are mostly loyal to him. Some ended up in the hospital because they weren’t willing to submit to the sports major. I guess everyone else must have submitted unwillingly as well.”

“So what? What can we do about it?” Gao Mengchao shook her head in resignation. “This can only be considered as a small spark. If you do not have the capabilities, don’t even think of using these small sparks to set Zhou Minghu ablaze. If only Lin Huai were still here, his computer science major students, along with all the girls we have, could still utilise the students who have a grudge toward Zhou Minghu. But it’s impossible to do it now with just a few of us.”

Gao Mengchao turned to Liu Meiqi as she was talking. “Meiqi, you should stop being concerned about Lin Huai as he’s done for. I admit that he is indeed capable, but he isn’t at that level yet. If he were to hone himself for two more years in the school, he would have surpassed Zhou Minghu in many aspects, but he hasn’t gotten there yet for now… He just enrolled for half a month and he has already stepped on the tails of so many people, and that was his biggest mistake. Without having absolute strength, one must never make so many enemies.”

Liu Meiqi’s expression was one of displeasure; she pouted and said, “Alright, you guys can continue discussing further since things have turned out like this, there’s nothing I can do to change it anyway. This sucks, I’m going for a drink!”

Wu Chunli said, “I’ll tag along!”

Liu Meiqi simply grunted and she then left the rooftop with Wu Chunli. Gao Mengchao frowned as she commented, “Since all of you are good sisters, it would be great if you could talk some senses into her. I think she’s being serious this time. It’s a pity that Lin Huai is a letdown, otherwise I would have matchmade them.”

Wang Xing replied, “Whether he’s a letdown or not, what else can be done anyway? The news of him adoring Wei Qimian has spread throughout the school. Alright, we will listen to you, big sister. I’ll comfort Meiqi after the classes end in the afternoon. But I won’t be accompanying her to drink now though. Who even drinks in the afternoon anyway?”

Everyone else nodded in agreement as well.

Liu Meiqi walked out of the school with the intention to find a place to drink. A young man walked up to her instead and spoke under his breath, “Mr. Huai told me that he would be waiting for you in Lao Wang Restaurant’s private dining room number 116. Don’t tell anyone else about this.”

The person walked away hurriedly once he finished his sentence. Liu Meiqi glanced at his leaving figure and realized he was gone just when she was about to stop him. She frowned slightly and uttered, “Why do I feel that his figure from the back looks so familiar?”

Wu Chunli asked, “Do you really want to go? Lin Huai has been detained, so how can he be there? The people from the sports major are so cunning and calculating, it could even be a trap they laid for us to catch us! I would advise you to not go.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Liu Meiqi said, “I’ve still got you, big sister. We will slaughter our way out if we feel something is amiss. I don’t believe they would dare to do anything in that kind of situation.”

Wu Chunli thought about it and nodded. “I’ll go with you then.”

Both of the girls headed toward the restaurant; they didn’t know that the messenger was Wang Hongwei, who was just discharged from the hospital. He received Lin Huai’s call right after he left the hospital. He felt excited, yet nervous at the thought of being able to assist Lin Huai so soon right after his discharge. He had always been a nobody in school, making him a perfect candidate to deliver a message in secret.

Liu Meiqi and Wu Chunli arrived at the restaurant, constantly looking over their shoulders to ensure no one was following. Then, they walked to the private dining room and knocked on the door. The door creaked open to reveal the person who opened the door—Wang Hongwei who had rushed back ahead of them. Wang Hongwei smiled and turned aside, revealing the situation in the private dining room. Wu Jun, Wu Mengjie and all other followers of Lin Huai, including Lin Huai himself, were all having a meal in there, with a full table of dishes.
