The Great Trump Card - Chapter 75

Li Kandao got nervous the more he chased Lin Huai down; how many people Lin Huai had cut down, and how many more would it take to stop him?

Lin Huai fought his way from the fourth floor to the first. The girls ran away screaming, the normal security guards were scared to death, and the lackeys were too cowardly to step forward. The fight was just bloodcurdling. No one had expected Lin Huai to put up such a fight. He wasn’t that skilled with knives, but he had speed, accuracy and ferocity, not to mention an aura strong enough to make people weak in the knees.

“Monster!” someone yelled. “He’s a monster! No, a demon!”

Lin Huai suddenly turned around, aimed his blade at Li Kandao and charged right back into the fray. Wu Jun and the others were dumbfounded. They were so close to escaping the karaoke, and Lin Huai was going back in? Was he crazy?

Li Kandao was caught by surprise too, but he refused to back down and merely prepared himself for a fight.

Suddenly, Lin Huai switched directions and stabbed a chest, not Li Kandao’s but someone beside him; Chen Gang, who had been standing among the crowd, didn’t expect Lin Huai to come straight for him and by the time he could react, the cold machete was already buried between his ribs. As he clutched at his chest, he could feel the blade’s coldness and his pants wetting, eyes full of fear.

Everyone else was stunned when they saw Lin Huai’s malicious smile, which was enough to send chills down everyone’s spine and leave them traumatized for the rest of their lives. He then immediately dashed for the door and yelled to Wu Jun and the others, “Run!”

Before Dao Zi ran out of the karaoke lounge, he turned to shoot Li Kandao a dirty look; he didn’t have the chance to battle him this time, but it was clear that Li Kandao’s skill far surpassed his own. Even so, he issued a challenge as he declared loudly, “Li Kandao, there can only be one of us with ‘Dao’ in our names in Yulan College. It’s either you, or me!”

With that, he ran out with the others.

Lin Huai had just run out of the karaoke lounge when flashlights lit up the street; a whole squad of armed policemen were aiming their guns straight at Lin Huai, yelling, “Put your hands up! You’re under arrest for severe body harm and causing public disturbance!”

Lin Huai froze; he could see someone standing opposite him with a malicious smile, and his eyes narrowed in response as he coldly called out, “Wan Zitao!”

Wan Zitao slowly made his way; just then Xuan Yuzhai stepped out of the karaoke lounge. “Yep. Young Master Wan Zitao here personally brought the squad to arrest a diabolical criminal such as yourself. It’s hard to find a competent young man like Young Master who follows his father’s footsteps nowadays,” he said with a chuckle.

Lin Huai scoffed, “You two are working together again?”

Wan Zitao said through gritted teeth, “Xuan Yuzhai sought me out this time. Lin Huai, you’ve gone too far. I’m afraid you’ll have to spend the next few years in jail.”

Lin Huai looked back at Dao Zi and the others. “All of us?”

“Naturally,” Wan Zitao said delightfully. “According to the tip-off, you’ve mercilessly injured a few people, and the others will be interrogated at the station. Isn’t that right, Captain Lu?”

The squad captain felt anxious. In his head, he was wondering why he still asked him when he’d already said it aloud. However, he wouldn’t dare offend the son of a police chief, so he hastily agreed, “Yes, yes. Let’s get Lin Huai out of here!”

Xuan Yuzhai smiled at Zhou Minghu standing beside him, and explained, “This was my last trump card. The last time I lost to Lin Huai, I learnt how powerful he was since he had both firepower and strategic brainpower, so I prepared a backup strategy of my own. Wan Zitao hates me but despises Lin Huai, and hearing there was a golden opportunity to get rid of him, Wan Zitao naturally went for him first. It only took me a little convincing to get him in on the plan.”

Zhou Minghu asked curiously, “What’s up with you two?”

Xuan Yuzhai felt a little awkward, but maintained an aloof smile and shook his head.

Seeing that Xuan Yuzhai was playing cool and not divulging anything, Zhou Minghu did not pry. None of it mattered, anyway; he had wiped out two of the Four Overlords of the campus in a single night, leaving only Gao Mengchao as his rival. Zhou Minghu didn’t dare go directly against Gao Mengchao, but now that he’d united the other forces under him, Gao Mengchao’s hands would naturally be tied. That would leave him as the ultimate winner, the one who’d established his reputation to the crime gangs of the outside world. His application was perfect.

The thought of that made Zhou Minghu smile, and he suddenly yelled, “Lin Huai! I wanted to thank you for being a stepping stone for my achievements, even if you’ve been giving me hell lately!”

Lin Huai turned to glare at Zhou Minghu indignantly and yelled, “Fine! You win!”

With that, Lin Huai was handcuffed along with Dao Zi and Wu Jun before they were loaded onto the police car.

When they got in, Captain Lu was sitting beside Lin Huai and Wan Zitao was sitting in the passenger seat. Other than that, Wu Jun and Pu Chengji had also been sent into the car, both of them slightly wounded from the events.

The moment the police car started moving, Lin Huai glanced outside at the gloating Xuan Yuzhai and Zhou Minghu, then a devilish grin split his face.

Outside, Zhou Minghu was already getting his men to clean up the battlefield and call an ambulance for ‘Yin Hu’ Chen Gang. He’d suffered a heavy loss tonight and Chen Gang would probably be out of commission for at least a few months, but he was riding high; the rewards he reaped had been more than worth a while.

Finally, when the police car reached the station, Lin Huai and the others were put in a holding cell until Wan Zitao strode in. Casting a glance at Lin Huai, he asked, “Lin Huai, when are you all planning to leave?”

“There’s no rush, we’ll get free food and drinks here so I’ll stay for another two days.”

“Fine.” Wan Zitao looked at Lin Huai in confusion. “I could actually release you any time, and you could go into hiding without anyone’s knowledge. Why do you like to stay at places like these?”

Lin Huai laughed out loud. “You don’t get it, Wan Zitao. It never hurts to be too careful. Last time you tricked Wei Qimian, you ended up getting tricked by Xuan Yuzhai in return, but then he was tricked by me. They thought Wu Shanhe and I were the flies caught in a spider’s web, and that they were the spider. Little did they know that I was not the fly, but the spider-eating bird!”

Wan Zitao’s gaze was filled with a fearful respect and he asked hesitantly, “How did you know Xuan Yuzhai would contact me for sure?”

Lin Huai smiled as he answered, “Xuan Yuzhai is a very manipulative and prideful man, so there’s no way he wouldn’t try to trick me. So, I asked all my spies in the computer science major to keep an eye on him, and notify me the moment he stepped into Yulan College. After that, I got intel saying that he’d gone to the sports major building. What for, you ask? It must have been related to tonight, and I guessed he would want me dead so I prepared accordingly. And Xuan Yuzhai couldn’t possibly propose a collaboration with Zhou Minghu empty-handed, right? So I figured his only way out was to use you as a bargaining chip.”

Wan Zitao said furiously, “Damn that Xuan Yuzhai. He’s used me once before, but never realised it was him I despise, not you. I only agreed to work with you because you’d come to me just in time.”

Lin Huai laughed and asked further, “Is there any other reason for your cooperation, besides your hatred for Xuan Yuzhai?”

Wan Zitao answered, “Because I fear you. Just shortly after Xuan Yuzhai came to me, you immediately got hold of my number and called me to propose an alliance. This proved that Xuan Yuzhai may think he’s clever, but you’re the one who has everything under control. Why would I oppose you once I realised that?”

“Yes,” Lin Huai said. “But now that I’m under your custody, you could prosecute me and be done with it. As smart as I am, I don’t call the shots around here, do I?”

Wan Zitao’s gaze flickered, as if he was tempted, but then he quickly shook his head and said in a determined voice, “I’ll never let Xuan Yuzhai use me a second time.”

“Good.” Lin Huai smiled and continued, “How about this? Get us some food and beer. There’s nothing much we can do, so let’s have a good drink tonight. And oh yeah, I want to make a phone call.”

Lin Huai suddenly remembered that he didn’t notify Li Qianqian about what happened. Lin Huai had partially predicted the beginning, but he wasn’t certain about the outcome and was genuinely surprised everything turned out his way. The only thing he didn’t expect at all was that Wu Shanhe had been involved as well; it was quite ruthless, but at least it left Zhou Minghu as Lin Huai’s sole obstacle to ruling over all of Yulan College. Once he manages to get rid of Zhou Minghu, bringing order to the campus wouldn’t be a problem at all.

Besides, there was someone else he wanted to test after he got in here.

After Wan Zitao left, Lin Huai took out his phone and made a gesture to silence the others, then he called Wei Sihai and waited. After a moment of hold music, Wei Sihai picked up and answered in a curious tone, “Hello? Lin Huai, calling me this late at night?”

“Hmm, yeah.” Lin Huai deliberately sighed. “Here’s the thing: I’m in a holding cell at the police station right now. I’m afraid I’m in big trouble, and could use your help!”
