The Great Trump Card - Chapter 26

“Who allowed you to lay your hand on him? Let go of him!”

“Do you even know who Wang Meng is? He is one of Big Lei’s men.”

“Let him go now or we are going to show you what we are capable of.”

All of these people were clamouring loudly yet none of them actually took action. It looked like Zhang Lei really did warn them beforehand.

Lin Huai did not even bother looking at them and just tore at Wang Meng’s hair, dragging him off the floor. Wang Meng could feel his scalp being ripped off as he screamed in pain.

“Do you still recognize me?” Looking at the crowds, Lin Huai asked with an evil grin on his face.

Wang Meng had a sturdy body, and a pair of wide, thick eyebrows which made him look strong and courageous. He didn’t look like a computer science student at all but rather from the sports major.

Wang Meng’s face was flushed and he was drenched in sweat due to pain. He painfully howled, “I don’t know you! I really don’t know you! What do you want to do?”

Lin Huai laughed. “You were at the washroom on the first floor. I met you remember?”

“I… I… Yes, but so what?” Wang Meng didn’t expect Lin Huai’s memory to be this good. As such, his facial expression was not natural at all, but he still put on a strong front, and stubbornly said, “The washroom upstairs was filled, so what is wrong with going downstairs to take a dump?”

“Nothing wrong with taking a dump,” Lin Huai replied while staring at Wang Meng. “But beating up Wang Hongwei is wrong.”

“I-I did not beat anyone up. I don’t even know who Wang Hongwei is.”

“Exactly!” Another student from the side chipped in loudly. “Lin Huai, don’t you dare win an inch and want a foot. Our big brother has not even given you a hard time, yet you turn around and bother us. Us second year seniors are not to be messed with as you think.”

“Exactly, Lin Huai! If you do not release Wang Meng immediately, we will not let you walk out of this room in one piece!”

Lin Huai stared at Wang Meng and continued questioning, “You did not beat him up? You still don’t know who Wang Hongwei is? Then go and explain this to the police. Wang Hongwei is beaten to death by you, and you still stubbornly said you did not hit him!”

With his face turning pale, both of Wang Meng’s legs went weak at the knees and gave way. If Lin Huai was not grabbing onto his hair, he would have collapsed on the ground.

“No… That is impossible! I merely smacked him once with a pair of pliers. How could he possibly die so easily?!” Wang Meng’s eyes were filled with despair. Being battered out of his senses, he mumbled, “Impossible. Impossible….”

“Smacked him once with a pair of pliers?” Lin Huai questioned Wang Meng and suddenly looked toward the bed. He lifted the blanket up. Just as he expected, there was a pair of pliers covered in blood lying on the bed. As he had deduced, Wang Hongwei was smacked by a blunt weapon and done by none other than this person before him.

With an ice-cold stare that looked exceptionally scary, Lin Huai dragged viciously on Wang Meng’s hair. He gritted his teeth and snapped, “Who gave you the orders to do this? Was it yourself? If you don’t answer me, wait to get executed by the authorities!”

“No…. It wasn’t me! I was also forced! it was Big…”

Wang Meng started to panic. Before he could complete the name ‘Big Lei’, a group of people rushed in from the outside aggressively; the leader was none other than Zhang Chunlei. When he saw the situation, his face turned horrifyingly green in anger. With a loud voice like thunder, Zhang Chunlei bellowed, “Shut your mouth up. Have you gone dumb? That guy is not even dead. He was just injured and sent to the hospital!”

Upon hearing that, Wang Meng was stunned and then heaved out a sigh of relief. Fear started to kick in, as he realized if he had ratted Zhang Chunlei out just now, he would not have any more good days to live by. Others might not understand the means of Zhang Chunlei, but he truly did. If Zhang Chunlei was not ruthless enough, he would not have gotten the entire sports major to be dreadful of him.

Zhang Chunlei’s sudden appearance made Lin Huai frown. He knew that having Zhang Chunlei here would make it hard for him to get something out of Wang Meng’s mouth. Therefore, he grabbed onto Wang Meng’s hair while walking toward the door of the room, coldly saying, “This guy laid his hands on my roommate, so I am going to take him back!”

“I am afraid that is not going to happen!” The entire floor was filled with people and all of them were glaring at Lin Huai like a tiger watching its prey. Zhang Chunlei even contorted and scrunched his face. A huge fight breaking out seemed to be inevitable.

There were over a dozen people on the opposite side, and there were more footstep noises of countless people from the stairwell. Thus, the number of people were not limited to those present but increasingly growing. Standing among the huge crowd of people, Lin Huai was like a flat boat drifting in the stormy waves.

Wang Meng let out a smile on his face, despite it being an ugly one. He endured the pain and jabbed back with a grin, “Lin Huai, what can you do to me? This is our brother, Big Lei’s territory. He can stop you from walking out of the second floor in one piece anytime he wants.”

“F*ck you!” Lin Huai punched Wang Meng in the face, smashing his nose crooked. One of his teeth also fell out, as blood flowed out of his nose while tears were bursting out of his eyes. Lin Huai threw a disdained look at him and scolded, “You talk too much!”

Zhang Chunlei’s expression became even more dangerous after seeing Lin Huai lay a hand on Wang Meng right in front of his eyes. He grabbed the wooden stick in his hand tightly. With swords drawn and bows bent, both parties were getting ready to fight.

Yet at this moment, a loud laugh could suddenly be heard from the stairwell. “What is this all about? Is this hostile atmosphere even necessary? Everyone hold it back in, keep all your gears. Oh Big Lei, what in the world are you doing over here?”

Zhang Chunlei was getting all geared up and ready to take action. However his face changed right after hearing this voice. He looked toward the door, and could see the students outside the door giving way to a guy. The guy had slightly darker skin and he walked in with a wide grin. Zhang Jindong could also be seen following obediently right behind him.

Upon seeing this dark-skinned guy, Zhang Chunlei breathed a relief. With certain respect, he called out, “Brother Di!”

So this is Brother Di! Lin Huai vividly remembered Zhang Jindong once mentioned that Brother Di wanted to befriend him. It seems like this guy must be Zhang Jindong’s big boss. Not only that, Wang Hongwei once mentioned before that he overheard a secret of Brother Di. That must mean that Brother Di should be on Zhang Chunlei’s side today. Moreover, that secret must be closely tied to Zhang Chunlei and this Brother Di.

Brother Di smiled and replied, “Is this huge crowd even required, Brother Big Lei? I think it’s better to let your brothers stand down. Wouldn’t it be a big joke for so many people bullying a transfer student? Hello, I am Zhang Hongdi from the sports major. Let’s get to know each other!”

The self-introduction at the end was for Lin Huai. Zhang Hongdi extended his hand at the same time.

Lin Huai frowned a little but still extended his hand to shake Zhang Hongdi’s hand. Lin Huai then said, “You wouldn’t be here to stop me from taking Wang Meng away, would you? Then I am afraid I’d have to let you down, Brother Di.”

Zhang Hongdi laughed loudly and replied, “No way, no way! I am already roughly aware of the situation, thus not only will I not stop you, I am going to help you!”

“Help me?” Lin Huai sneered. “How are you going to help me?”

Zhang Hongdi smiled. “Some things are really not suitable for us to resolve in private, so it’s better to let the police handle these things, am I right? Take a look and see, I have already brought the police over for you.”

Right after Zhang Hongdi completed his sentence, a police officer in police uniform walked in. Not only that, this was not an ordinary policeman. He whipped out his identification from his uniform and arrogantly said, “I am Li Yunan, the Vice Captain of the Criminal Investigation Team from the Public Security Bureau. I will be taking over from this case and I am going to bring this person back with me.”

With a frown on Lin Huai’s face, he did not let go of his grip on Wang Meng’s hair.

Li Yunan coldly added, “If you do not let go, I am going to take you back in with me, and charge you for abuse of illegal punishment.”

Lin Huai knew that despite how capable he was, it would not be logical to go against the public security enforcement system. He let loose a small breath and let go of Wang Meng.

Li Yunan stepped forward immediately and cuffed Wang Meng, while picking up the blunt weapon on the bed. Acting righteously, he announced, “All of you students really have no respect for the law. Nobody is allowed to speak a word and mention what happened today to the public. This is to prevent affecting the reputation of the school. I will handle this case with impartiality in order to give justice to the victims.”

With that, Li Yunan promptly grabbed Wang Meng and left. Lin Huai took a deep breath to calm himself down, but deep down, he felt that this matter was unfortunately going to end just like that. Although Li Yunan looked like he would handle this case with impartiality, if things were really fair, why would Zhang Hongdi have brought him here? Perhaps there was a connection between the two of them.

Nonetheless, there was nothing that could be done now to change anything. Lin Huai thus said, “Since it has ended this way, I will not continue to stay here.”

Zhang Chunlei grinned hideously and replied, “Lin Huai, now that you are already here, how are you expecting to leave this place in one piece?

Zhang Hongdi shook his head, saying, “Big Lei, the situation tonight has been blown out of proportion already. Furthermore, you all are from the computer science major, so by right, as an outstander, I should not be interfering with this, but I think you all should get along together.”

Zhang Chunlei’s eyes flashed for a brief moment, his gaze turning sinister, yet he managed to hold himself back. He gave his followers a hint, prompting them to give way to Lin Huai.

Lin Huai turned his head around and stared at Zhang Chunlei. Being unappreciative, he coldly rebutted, “Big Lei, my brother is not so easily toyed with. Things are not over yet!”

Thereafter, Lin Huai ignored Zhang Chunlei, whose anger was on the verge of exploding, and strode out of the dormitory. As he took each and every step passing by the numerous students on the way to the stairway, all the second-year students automatically gave way for him. All these were caught by Feng Jingnan, the dormitory management administrator, who couldn’t help himself to come up and take a look. Feng Jingnan was stunned and could only look speechlessly at Lin Huai casually strolling down the stairway, passing by him and going back down.

Feng Jingnan was dazed and could only mutter to himself, “This Lin Huai… I have yet to see a new freshman challenge the second-year computer science major students. Not only that, he did that single-handedly and still could come out in one piece from the second floor… This Lin Huai is really unique. I can foresee this university being more and more interesting.”
