The Great Trump Card - Chapter 21

Instinctively, a bad premonition rose in Lin Huai’s heart but he forcefully ruled out his bad thoughts and spoke in a harsh tone, “Let go of me, Niu Haijiao. Mianmian is here and we will protect you.”

Niu Haijiao clung onto Lin Huai, letting out a desperate scream. “Help! I want to tell Wei Qimian. Don’t bully me!”

Damn it!

Lin Huai’s face changed instantly. Sure enough, it was just exactly as predicted by his bad premonitions. Lin Huai couldn’t be bothered about hurting Niu Haijiao anymore and shook himself loose from her, scolding as he pushed her onto the ground, “You b*tch!”

Niu Haijiao fell onto the ground and scraped her arms. With her tears flowing out continuously and her clothes disheveled, she looked beautiful crying, gorgeous and making hearts tender. But all Lin Huai felt was fire raging in his heart. His impression of Niu Haijiao had always been pretty good yet now she had allied with Xuan Yuzhai to frame him. He underestimated that man’s shamelessness. Most importantly, he underestimated the hearts of people.

Wei Qimian and Xuan Yuzhai ran over when they heard the commotion, just in time to see the scene of Niu Haijiao falling. They looked at the situation before their eyes—Lin Huai livid with rage while Niu Haijiao’s clothes were unbuttoned, as she cried pitifully with her cleavage exposed. It was difficult not to imagine what just happened.

Wei Qimian speed-walked toward Niu Haijiao, squatted down and buttoned up her clothes while Xuan Yuzhai looked away hurriedly, as if it was an indecent assault. Lin Huai gave Niu Haijiao a cold and dreadful stare, making her quiver and didn’t dare to raise her head. Lin Huai knew she was feeling guilty about it but in the others’ eyes, it seemed as though she had been frightened by him.

Wei Qimian helped Niu Haijiao up after buttoning her buttons. “If we hadn’t come earlier, I would’ve never let you go!” she said coldly with her eyes filled with disappointment.

Listening to her cold tone and seeing her disappointed gaze, Lin Huai’s heart hurt as if there were pins and needles prickling on it. His fists clenched as an angry voice cried in his heart, You don’t trust me! You don’t trust me! You don’t trust me!

Yeah, we’ve just known each other for three or four days, so why would you believe me? I am ridiculously pathetic!

Lin Huai smiled, turned around and left without any explanations.

“Mianmian, are we just letting him go like this? Without telling the teachers or the school administrators?” Xuan Yuzhai asked.

“Everyone makes mistakes. Let’s not ruin his life,” Wei Qimian hesitated and replied after a sigh.

“Mianmian, you are such a kind hearted girl, but do keep in mind to stay away from this kind of man,” Xuan Yuzhai spoke softly.

“Okay.”

Xuan Yuzhai turned around to look at Lin Huai with a triumphant smile as Wei Qimian answered. At the exact moment, Lin Huai turned around and gave him a glance. Immediately, his body shook and his face turned white. That was a look of a beast!

Lin Huai felt terrible as he walked out from the forest, a voice underneath kept telling him to be less pessimistic. What else can be done even if I’m misunderstood? Wei Qimian is just my employer and we won’t even be spending time together for more than two months. It doesn’t matter what impression she has on me, does it? Why is my heart aching? Oh, yes, it must be because it will not be as easy to accomplish my next task once there are misunderstandings. That’s why my heart feels sick, that must be it.

Lin Huai was already feeling a little tipsy. He bought a bag of peanuts and a bottle of liquor when he passed by the supermarket in the school. After returning to his room, he lay down on his bed and started chugging. Everyone else in the dorm could tell he was in a bad mood, and no one had the courage to ask the reason Wang Hongwei didn’t come back along. For the entire night, everyone was extremely cautious, trying not to make too much noise even when they walked while Lin Huai finally fell asleep after chugging down a bottle of liquor.

The next morning, Lin Huai was still feeling hungover when he opened his eyes, and his head was still hurting. Now that he was awake, he scolded himself for being an idiot. It was obvious that Xuan Yuzhai had framed him. No one would believe him in that situation. After all, Wei Qimian made him leave without telling the teachers or calling the police. What else did he expect?

Although he felt recalcitrant being framed by Xuan Yuzhai this time, things had been set and there was no point overthinking about it. Instead of drowning his sorrows with liquor, he might as well think of ways to prove himself innocent. Xuan Yuzhai would be more than happy to see the complexes between him and Wei Qimian, so he was not going to make himself a fool and let Xuan Yuzhai joke about him secretly.

Lin Huai finally cleared his thoughts and jumped down from the bed, feeling relaxed.

“Brother Huai, what happened yesterday night? You scared the hell out of us. Is there anything we can help?” Wu Mengjie asked with a smile. All his roommates who were done washing up were relieved.

“There is.” Lin Huai acted casually.

“What is it?” Everyone in the dorm turned around and looked at him.

“Say it, Brother Huai. We will not hesitate to go through fire and water for you.”

“It’s a simple task, you can even say that it’s effortless.” Lin Huai smiled looking at their attentive faces.

All his roommates were excited as they could finally help Lin Huai once. The main thing was to make use of this opportunity to build a good relationship with Lin Huai. Even though they were roommates, they knew that Lin Huai had always looked down on them.

“What’s the task?”

“Yeah, what is it? Just say it, Brother Huai.”

“Beat Xuan Yuzhai up for me, and beat him hard,” Lin Huai said casually as he sat on his bed with his legs crossed.

Everyone in the dorm went speechless. Although Xuan Yuzhai didn’t have any underlings himself, he was regarded to have power in most students’ eyes due to his family background. Coupled with the fact that he paved his way in school using money, everyone in the school—from the heads of the academy to the gangsters in school—would show their respect to him and would never try to provoke him.

Seeing the atmosphere in the dorm go silent, Wu Mengjie, who was the strongest besides Lin Huai, spoke, “Brother Huai, Xuan Yuzhai is not a man to be trifled with. Even Da Lei wouldn’t dare to offend him…”

“It’s fine, I was just joking about it. Continue your conversations, I’m going to the bathroom,” Lin Huai laughed and said.

Lin Huai walked out from the dorm after washing up. The conversation just now was just a brief interlude; he never expected anyone to do anything and it was impossible for them to go against Xuan Yuzhai anyway—that would be hitting a stone with an egg. Most importantly, he already had his own idea on what to do.

After breakfast, he went back to the classroom only to notice the unusual atmosphere. Half of the students were there, including Wei Qimian and her roommates. Lin Huai found out that quite a few people were peeking at him the moment he walked in, but when he turned around to look at them, they dodged immediately.

From the way they look at me, they definitely are not scared of me. Seems like the news that I molested Niu Haijiao has spread… Judging from personality, Mianmian will never talk about it outside, it’s probably Xuan Yuzhai again. This guy has been wanting to ruin my reputation, Lin Huai thought as he frowned.

Lin Huai took a glance at Niu Haijiao who was sitting in the first row as he walked to his seat. Niu Haijiao had a guilty conscience and evaded his eyes hurriedly. Lin Huai couldn’t be bothered about her as well; he had started disliking her but he understood that she was just a scapegoat, not worthy enough to be his opponent yet. Xuan Yuzhai would be his only enemy.

When he just came to school, he had underestimated these students who were not hammered by the society yet. It was only now that he really regarded Xuan Yuzhai as an opponent. It was unbelievable that there were such cunning minds among the students.

He sat down on his seat and saw Wei Qimian reading her book, ignoring him. “Mianmian, do you really believe that I would molest Niu Haijiao?” he approached her and whispered.

Wei Qimian gave him a cold face and continued reading her book.

“Have you not thought that it might all be a trap?”

Wei Qimian still showed no response.

“Fine, I guess you really are ignoring me.” Lin Huai felt disappointed. Although he understood, he still was upset about it. Thinking of his mission of protecting Wei Qimian, he pushed away the thoughts about their relationship and continued whispering, “Xuan Yuzhai has asked to meet you this weekend. Do let me know in advance if you’ve confirmed the time and venue.”

“I don’t need it,” Wei Qimian finally spoke, but in a distancing, cold tone.

“What do you mean by you don’t need it?” Lin Huai frowned. “This is about your safety! Can’t we just let go about Niu Haijiao’s incident for the time being? That’s not a horse of the same colour. After this matter ends, you can continue ignoring me as you like!”

“Fine! You are being annoying,” Wei Qimian’s said with rage in her voice and her chest heaving. “I told you I don’t need you! I can unveil him myself without you and I won’t let him take advantage on me.”

“You don’t even know him! He is an arrogant hypocrite in a mask.” Lin Huai frowned.

“Don’t make it sound like you’re not a hypocrite! You became friends with me but look at what you’ve done behind my back? You took advantage of my roommate?”

“….” Lin Huai gasped in anger. “Okay, I’m not going to care anymore, do whatever you want!”

Lin Huai went ballistic. Wei Qimian’s eyes turned red and turned her head to the other side. Lin Huai turned to the opposite as well. Looking at this scene, the students were now certain that the rumors were true. They all thought in their heart, Lin Huai is in charge of their class’ discipline yet he himself is such a hypocrite. They all despised him and gave him a scornful look but didn’t dare to say anything.

Zhang Chunyu was elated. Lin Huai, Lin Huai, you are not any good as well. Now that your reputation is ruined, let’s see how else can you be a busy body.

Just at this moment, someone opened the classroom door, Pu Chengji had come back from his recovery. Noticing the tense atmosphere between Wei Qimian and Lin Huai, also the others’ gazes, he asked in bafflement, “Brother Huai, what happened?”

The classroom was already quiet. The instant Pu Chengji asked such a question, everyone looked toward Lin Huai’s direction.
