Not long after Lin Huai returned to his office, Gong Zhenglong gave him a call. He did not know Lin Huai’s mobile phone number but knew the office landline. Upon picking up the phone, Lin Huai could hear the anger through his voice as he roared loudly that even the desk was shaking. “Lin Huai, are you f*cking crazy? How dare you beat up my men!”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Gong Zhenglong, there is no need to be so angry.”
“Are you trying to start a war with me? Don’t think that you can be so arrogant just because our boss is looking after you. If I wish to kill you off, it would be as easy as crushing an ant!”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “You can give it a shot but you have to get through Big Boss Lei first.”
“Don’t forget, it was Big Boss Lei who ordered me to leave several men behind to help you out. Yet now you have the f*cking audacity to bring Big Boss Lei up? Aren’t you afraid that he would punish you?”
Lin Huai chuckled and said, “Now you mention it, Big Boss Lei ordered you to leave some men behind to help me out, not to make life difficult for me. Gong Zhenglong, what do you think will happen if I told Big Boss Lei everything that happened? Do you think he’ll punish you or me?”
Gong Zhenglong was speechless and was filled with resentment. Just like what Lin Huai said, if Big Boss Lei knew that he was the one that ordered his men to deliberately cause problems, Big Boss Lei would definitely make an example out of him. Furthermore, it is also part of Big Boss Lei’s business so he cannot complain to Big Boss Lei as the facts were not on his side.
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Therefore, we should just close an eye toward certain things. In fact, I wanted you to complain to Big Boss Lei. Truth be told, although I had beaten your men up, they are only low ranked thugs. The mastermind behind it has yet to be punished so I have not vented out all my anger yet!”
Gong Zhenglong took a deep breath and calmly said, “I was not the one that ordered them to do such things. I will look into this and do an investigation. Once the results are out, I will provide you with an explanation!”
Upon saying that, Gong Zhenglong hung up the phone. He was a man with pride and his words just now were considered to be a sign of succumbing to Lin Huai. As such, he was at his limit and there was no way he could continue giving in anymore.
Lin Huai placed the phone down but did not feel victorious as he merely gained a tiny advantage at the moment. Furthermore, Gong Zhenglong was not the scary one as he was merely all brawl and no brains. In fact, he was the easiest opponent out of the four Red Canes as the other three Red Canes looked like they were difficult to be dealt with. Although the men were arranged by Gong Zhenglong, it was also partly Thunder God, Tang Shi’s intention. It was just that Tang Shi could not be upfront about it and had to utilize cunning means so that there would be internal conflicts between them.
The thing on Lin Huai’s mind right now was the fact that Tang Shi clearly did not trust him. It would be foolish to think that I could rely just on my brothers to take down Tang Shi. How could I earn Tang Shi’s trust then? That is the most important thing.
Even if I am one of the five Red Canes right now, I am technically still an outsider and have yet to step foot into Tang Shi’s inner circle. On the surface to outsiders, it seemed as if Lin Huai was placed in an important position but only a few people showed good judgement and could tell that it was not the truth.
Just as Lin Huai was deep in his thoughts, Chu Wenxing suddenly walked in and excitedly said, “Brother Huai, someone is looking for you.”
“Oh, who’s that?” Lin Huai was a little curious after seeing how excited Chu Wenxing looked.
“Gao Mengchao.”
“Gao Mengchao?” Lin Huai was stunned. Why is she here? Haven’t we talked about it before?
However, Lin Huai had no reason to turn her down and Lin Huai’s relationship with Liu Meiqi was still rather ambiguous. Thus, Lin Huai nodded his head and said, “Alright, let her in.”
Soon, Gao Mengchao walked in and was dressed in a black leather suit as well as a pair of black leather boots which made her look slender and sexy. Upon walking in the room, a smile appeared on her ice-cold face and she took a seat. She gently lifted one of her legs, her long legs were so seductive that it would catch the attention of every man in this world. Then she crossed her legs and with a smile, she said, “I still wish to talk to you on the previous topic I brought up.”
Lin Huai rubbed his nose and asked, “Haven’t we talked about it before? I thought it was done and dusted for.”
Gao Mengchao said, “I know about the event that occurred this morning. Prior to this, I thought that Tang Shi thought very highly of you and placed you in an important position which was why I didn’t have much hope of roping you in. However, do you think that Tang Shi would put you in an important position in the future?”
Lin Huai had a faint smile as he said, “What do you mean by that? Are you trying to instigate the relationship between me and my boss?”
Gao Mengchao smiled and said, “Come on now, we are all intelligent people, there is no need to act dumb in front of me. Other people may not see through it and Gong Zhenglong, the man with all brawn and no brains couldn’t either but do you think that I wouldn’t realize that you have seen through it? You agreed to be Tang Shi’s follower yet he gave you an arcade of this calibre. We all know the situation of arcades in today’s day and age which is why the arcade could never be able to support the expenses of all your men!”
Lin Huai replied, “So what?”
“So what? Without a source of income, your men would leave you eventually. If I am not wrong, Tang Shi would soon provide you a helping hand so you could gradually get over this problem. However, that is his goal as he plans to increase your reliance on him. That way your men would realize that their pay is given by Tang Shi.”
Lin Huai’s facial expression remained unchanged but deep down he was shocked. Lin Huai had thought of all of this already but he did not expect Gao Mengchao to have a clear perspective in everything. I wonder if Gao Mengchao was the one that saw through it or was it Yu Luosha.
Gao Mengchao said, “You don’t have to be surprised, I am the one that saw through everything. If I was not able to see through this, our big sister, Yu Luosha would not have roped me in. To be honest, our big sister wants to rope you in as well which is why I was sent to stake you out. Over the past two days, I have sent people to stake out around here which is why I know everything that happened over here.”
Lin Huai whistled and said, “Not bad, not bad. It seems like the new Red Cane Yu Luosha roped in is pretty outstanding. Based on what you said, you are no longer in college?”
Gao Mengchao said, “I left college after you left. Yulan College was merely a supply station for the underworld and it is not a place for me and you. It was just a starting point in our life.”
Lin Huai said, “Yes. To be honest, you are a difficult opponent to deal with as compared to Zhou Minghu.”
Gao Mengchao said, “You think too highly of me. I am actually not as capable as Zhou Minghu. Prior to your enrolment in college, Zhou Minghu had strongly overwhelmed me and Wu Shanhe. The only reason we could stand toe to toe was if I united forces with Wu Shanhe. Zhou Minghu looked down on you and eventually lost. By right Zhou Minghu should not have lost and his loss was a little unlucky.”
“Oh, how is he unlucky?”
Gao Mengchao said, “You had just enrolled into the college yet you were able to pull off such a miracle which was an amazing feat. Nobody else would have been able to do so, not even Zhou Minghu. However, Zhou Minghu’s loss was in fact a little unlucky. Think about it, you had just entered college and Zhou Minghu knew nothing about you. On the contrary, he was a popular big shot in college so you clearly knew everything about him and even if you didn’t, you could just ask around in college to gather all the information you needed.”
Lin Huai said, “Makes sense. I had a clear understanding of myself and my adversaries whereas he was just careless and full of himself.”
Gao Mengchao said, “You are right. He didn’t understand you well enough and was unclear how horrifying you could be. Otherwise, based on his force and power under his command, no matter how capable you were, he wouldn’t have lost to you. Ultimately, he underestimated you severely.
Lin Huai replied, “It does make a lot of sense.”
“That’s why I said that I am not as good as Zhou Minghu. He is a very terrifying person if not he would not have been able to overwhelm both me and Wu Shanhe for a long period of time. Sadly such a formidable leader with huge potential was killed by you.
“You sympathize with his death?”
“No, this world has geniuses fading away on a daily basis, there is nothing strange about it. The winner takes it all and that has always been the way this world works.” Gao Mengchao stared at Lin Huai and said, “Now you are a much more capable person compared to him. I have brought you up to Sister Yu Luosha in the past but despite having a certain interest, she did not think too highly of you. Otherwise, we may have been one step ahead and roped you in first.”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “What about now?”
“Well, our big sister sent me here to inform you that if you become her follower, you will be the only male Red Cane under her command.”
“Wow, sounds fantastic.”
As she listened to Lin Huai’s perfunctory tone, she frowned and said, “I know you can tell that Thunder God is just taking advantage of you. He has no trust in you which is why he is coming up with ways to keep you in check. You are merely a new joiner in the Thunder Gang and yet he is already wary of you. If you really rose up in ranks in the future, don’t you think he would kill you off to avoid any unforeseen circumstances? It’s not too late for you to jump ship and join our Rakshasa Gang where you would be given a position around the same as mine or even higher.”
Lin Huai shook his head and in a serious tone, he said, “Sigh, it does make a lot of sense but I am sorry, I refuse.”
Gao Mengchao frowned and said, “What?”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “I’m serious, I’m turning your offer down. You said that Thunder God does not trust me completely but if I betray him and join the Rakshasa Gang, would Yu Luosha be able to have unfaltering trust in me?”
Gao Mengchao kept quiet. What he said does make sense. If he betrayed Thunder God so easily, would Yu Luosha be able to trust him?
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Therefore, there is no point in continuing with such conversations. Since I chose to become Thunder God’s follower, I will be loyal to him and be his follower till my death. Miss Gao, I would like to congratulate you on becoming the new Red Cane of Rakshasa Gang!”
Gao Mengchao stood up and let out a gentle sigh. With regret, she said, “Unfortunately like I mentioned before, I am afraid we would become rivals in the future. That’s not unfortunate but instead poor Liu Meiqi would be the one to suffer…”
Gao Mengchao took another deep breath before turning around and leaving.
There was also a trace of sadness in Lin Huai’s eyes as he sighed and said, “Yeah, what’s going to happen to Liu Meiqi?”
