Li Qianqian stared at Chou Sihan with a smile and said, “What’s wrong? Do you want me to feed you?”
This was the first time Li Qianqian fought back at Chou Sihan since she entered the restaurant. Not only that, Li Qianqian’s rebuttal left Chou Sihan speechless. The way she rebutted was so elegant and polite which nobody could fault her for. After all, Chou Sihan was the one that brought up the punishment of downing the cup of alcohol. Thus, there was nothing wrong with Li Qianqian pouring her a cup of alcohol.
Chou Sihan took a deep breath. She knew that if she did not drink this cup of wine, it would be an embarrassing moment for her.
As such, she picked up the glass of wine and downed it. Then she started coughing and her face turned red.
Liu Shuai quickly patted Chou Sihan on the back gently. Then he turned around and unhappily said, “Li Qianqian, you are taking things too far. Chou Sihan was just joking with you and yet you actually forced her to down the cup of wine?”
Li Qianqian was getting disappointed. In an unrelenting manner, she said, “Now that puzzles me and makes me wonder. Your fiancée was the one that said she wanted to punish herself. So how is it my fault that I poured the glass of wine for her?”
“Well…” Liu Shuai’s face turned red and was speechless. In his memory, Li Qianqian had always been an obedient girl that would rarely rebuke anything he said in high school. Therefore, the sudden change in her attitude shocked him as he was unable to react to her fierceness. He forgot that everyone would eventually undergo changes in their lives. Li Qianqian had been in the working world for a few years. After going through those rough patches in life, she was no longer the Li Qianqian in the past that would be easily bullied by them.
Lin Huai smiled and said, “I think that what Qianqian said was right. If you had really loved and cared about your girlfriend, you would have downed the cup of wine on her behalf. Furthermore, your girlfriend was not to be blamed for the incident back then. You were the one that cheated. Otherwise, no matter how seductive your girlfriend was, the decision was ultimately yours. Yet now you let your girlfriend take the fall. Sigh.”
Lin Huai was even more sarcastic. He implied that Liu Shuai was not manly enough. Liu Shuai was the one that made the mistake yet he allowed his girlfriend to take the fall.
As expected, Chou Sihan slapped Liu Shuai’s arm and glared at him. She whispered, “Useless.”
Liu Shuai’s face turned red as everyone’s eyes were on him. His classmates remembered back then, despite Liu Shuai’s looks, he came from a poor family. However, Li Qianqian was still willing to live a frugal life with him and did not mind sticking by his side. Yet, Liu Shuai was tempted by Chou Sihan’s wealthy family background. Thus, all she had to do was seduce him and he immediately dumped Li Qianqian. As expected, when one became greedy and went after people’s wealth, he would have no status and position within the household.
On the other hand, Lin Huai reached over with his chopsticks and filled Li Qianqian’s bowl with food. He smiled and said, “Qianqian, these are the dishes you like.”
Everyone could tell that Lin Huai was handsome and better looking than Liu Shuai. Not just that, he was also very gentle and caring. It made everyone feel jealous and envious. Right away Lin Huai and Li Qianqian outshone Liu Shuai and Chou Sihan.
Chou Sihan could not help but feel furious. The main reason she invited Li Qianqian over was to purposely show off that she was much happier in her life. Yet, now things had taken a turn. She could not help but glare at Liu Shuai. Then she pretended like nothing happened and with a smile said, “Everyone dig in. This restaurant is considered one of the best in Chengbei District. All the dishes and wine in one table costs about ten thousand. It would be a pity if the food was wasted.”
Chou Sihan purposely flaunted her wealth as she looked at Li Qianqian and said, “Qianqian, I am guessing you are unable to afford such expensive dishes so eat up and enjoy the food.”
Liu Shuai then smiled and said, “Yes, definitely. Everyone please help yourselves. Now that I am General Manager of Tian Xing Group, I am earning more than ten thousand a month. Therefore, this amount spent doesn’t mean a thing to me.”
Although everyone felt that it was inappropriate to bring up such matters while eating, they were still jealous. Tian Xing Group was founded by Chou Sihan’s father. After graduating, Liu Shuai had started working in the company. Due to being Chou Sihan’s boyfriend, he got promoted and climbed up the ranks of the company very quickly. Since they were about to get married, Chou Sihan’s father promoted him to be the General Manager of the company. He also had plans for Liu Shuai to take over the company eventually.
Liu Shuai was delighted and said, “Oh right, I wonder where Qianqian’s boyfriend is working at right now?”
Chou Sihan chuckled and said, “I am curious as well. For a beautiful girl such as Qianqian, I am guessing her boyfriend must be some General Manager in another large corporation.”
Lin Huai sighed and said, “I am still in college.”
“Oh right, going to college is good. You are still young.” Chou Sihan did not feel like giving up. She had to put Li Qianqian down so she asked, “Then I am guessing your parents must be rather wealthy?”
Li Qianqian frowned and said, “Chou Sihan, don’t you think it’s too inappropriate to dig into his family background?”
Chou Sihan chuckled and said, “What’s wrong with that? I think it’s fine. We are just helping you to look into his background and see if he’s suitable for you.”
Just then, a woman next to them that was dressed up flirtatiously chuckled and said, “I think that what Sihan said is right. We should help you to vet through and see if he’s suitable for you so that you won’t be easily cheated by him. It won’t be easy to take care of someone leeching off you in the future. After all, being handsome doesn’t bring you income.”
Chou Sihan smiled. “Exactly. Li Mei is right. Being handsome doesn’t bring you any income. We have all stepped out into the working world. We can no longer choose a partner based on looks.”
Li Mei was clearly on Chou Sihan’s side. Both of them continuously went on as their purpose was to agitate Lin Huai and Li Qianqian. They wanted to expose the fact that Li Qianqian was dating a leech to everyone.
Just then, Liu Shuai sneered. “Could it be that he came from a poor family and only sweet-talked Qianqian into falling for him? If that’s the case, we cannot allow Qianqian to date you.”
Lin Huai smiled. He was about to say something, when Liu Shuai suddenly stood and excitedly said, “Young Master Xuan, you are finally here!”
Everyone else looked over including Lin Huai. The person walking in was none other than Xuan Yuzhai. He had some bruises on his face and a pale complexion. He seemed extremely different in comparison to his usual chic and elegant self. However, he remained proud and held his head high.
Liu Shuai smiled and said, “This is the special guest I invited today. He is none other than Xuan Yuzhai, Young Master Xuan. He comes from the Xuan Family which owns the largest clothing business in Chengbei District. Young Master Xuan, you are finally here. What happened to your face?”
Everyone was shocked. They knew that Chengbei District had a family that was involved in the clothing business. The business was expanding rapidly and they had two factories as well as a fashion town under their belt. Most importantly, they heard rumours that the Xuan Family was involved in the underworld and that their family bred multiple fighters. Within Chengbei District, they were considered to be big shots in both the business and underworld side.
At that moment, there were two bodyguards following behind Xuan Yuzhai. Usually he would never bring bodyguards along with him in college. However, since he got beaten up, he always made sure to bring bodyguards with him wherever he went.
Xuan Yuzhai’s expression changed. He could not reveal the fact that he was beaten up. He had not noticed Lin Huai’s presence yet so he coughed and said, “I accidentally fell down, nothing much.”
Although everyone knew that the bruises on his face did not look like it came from a fall but who would dare to question him? All of Li Qianqian’s classmates stood up and a few of them even tried to get closer to him. After all, her classmates came from an ordinary family. Thus if they could get to know a son of a wealthy businessman, they would have much stronger connections.
Liu Shuai coughed and said, “Young Master Xuan just arrived. Let’s invite him to sit down and have a meal first. Young Master Xuan, come here and take a seat next to me. I have reserved this seat for you.”
Prior to this, everyone was curious as to why Liu Shuai left an empty space next to him. Now they knew that it was reserved for Young Master Xuan, the special guest.
Young Master Xuan saw Chou Sihan and smiled. He nodded and asked, “How’s your father?”
Chou Sihan was rather polite in front of Xuan Yuzhai. She replied, “He’s doing fine.”
“Alright.”
Although the Xuan Family was not the wealthiest but compared to the Chou Family, it was still slightly more powerful. The Xuan Family were also much stronger in underworld forces. The reason Liu Shuai got to know Xuan Yuzhai was because their companies had certain business dealings with each other. Liu Shuai had also wanted to get to know a wealthy descendant in order to show off to his friends. Most importantly, he was captivated by the underworld forces of the Xuan Family. Therefore, he had consistently flattered Xuan Yuzhai in order to get to know him. Eventually, they got to know each other and he purposely invited Xuan Yuzhai over to show off.
Xuan Yuzhai sat next to Liu Shuai and glanced across the ballroom. All of a sudden, he froze in his spot and stared in disbelief.
At the same time, voices of conversations could be heard all around. “I did not expect Liu Shuai to actually be friends with Young Master Xuan.”
“Exactly. Liu Shuai is really capable now.”
“It’s all because of the Chou Family. Back then, choosing Chou Sihan to be his girlfriend was a good move. Despite Li Qianqian being the prettiest girl in the class, she came from an ordinary family. In comparison to us now, Liu Shuai has cut down the amount of time he needed to work by many years.”
“Sigh, we are all jealous.”
Liu Shuai overheard everyone’s discussion and was extremely delighted. He boasted, “Qianqian, I wonder what kind of friends your boyfriend hangs out with. You must have heard of Young Master Xuan before. He is a good friend of mine. I am sure you and your friends never had the chance and qualifications to meet him before. Am I right, Lin Huai?”
Lin Huai glanced at Xuan Yuzhai and, with a grin on his face, said, “Yes, you are right.”
Lin Huai really wanted to burst out into laughter. Deep down inside, he was dying from laughter yet he had to suppress all of those emotions and remain calm. So tiring!
Liu Shuai gleefully said, “It’s good to know where you stand. Young Master Xuan, Li Qianqian is a female classmate of mine. She was my ex-girlfriend before I got together with Sihan. After all, Sihan is a much better girlfriend. I did not expect her to choose a boy with no capabilities to be her partner. Although all of us attended college, he can never be compared to you. Since we are friends, would it be possible for you to get him a job in your company when he graduates? Even a simple job like a cleaner would do.”
Liu Shuai purposely humiliated Lin Huai. After all, there was nothing more humiliating than becoming a cleaner.
All the other classmates sighed. Life had always been unfair and it was pointless to compare it to others. Liu Shuai is someone that could be friends with Xuan Yuzhai, how about you? That is the harsh truth of life. Now that everyone felt that Li Qianqian and Lin Huai had lost this duel, they looked at Li Qianqian pitifully.
Li Qianqian frowned and just as she was about to burst in anger, Lin Huai suddenly smiled and gently tapped on the table. He grinned and said, “Young Master Xuan! Since you arrived late, why don’t you down a glass of alcohol as punishment?”
Liu Shuai could not help but laugh. “Are you f*cking crazy? Do you think that anyone can drink with Young Master Xuan? Young Master Xuan… What are you doing? Young Master Xuan, you actually drank it?”
Liu Shuai could not comprehend what was going on.
