As he continued to behold her, the dangerous light in his eyes gradually faded away once more.

Zhe Huo used her magic to dry off his robes, then turned around to find him still standing there, wet and naked. Fighting to hold in her laughter, she tossed the robes onto him. “Put that on.”

Suppressing both his words and expression, the boy did as he was told.

“Kid, you got a name?” Zhe Huo was already hard at work devising a name for her wonderful new plaything.

However, the boy actually muttered a name in reply, “Luo Qinghan.”

As he unfurled his tail, Zhe Huo couldn’t resist taking a peek, and teasing him with, “That’s a cute little toy you’ve got there.”

Qinghan squeezed his eyes shut. Something glistened along the edge of his eyelids.

Little did Zhe Huo know, one day she would be crushed beneath the full girth of a grown-up Qinghan, and she would be the one pleading for respite.

Among the various monasteries in the Dazhao region, Lavender Mountain was one of those which taught the other side of the divine arts: hunting demons.

Nan Lingye, who headed the monastery as its grandmaster, was no minor personage. Back in the day, he was renowned among the gods as the Lord of the Clouds, second only to one other. Amongst the pantheon of Heaven, the Jade Emperor treated him as his own son. The Three Divinities bowed low in his passing. The goddess Chang Er often tried to peep on him bathing, but one look at him would have her and all the other angels swooning.

And yet, what twist of fate had relegated him to being the grandmaster of Lavender Mountain?

It was a long story, but the point was that the head of the Lavender Mountain monastery was once the Lord of the Clouds, now descended to walk the mortal realm.

“Who would believe that? Fei Zhao, your story-telling skills have certainly improved over these past few days!” Zhe Huo smacked Fei Zhao on the head as she hopped down.

Caught in the act of bamboozling passers-by at the foot of the mountain, Fei Zhao was struck by this surprise attack, and recognized a familiar savagery that left his head spinning for a moment. Whirling around in a fury, he growled, “Zhe Huo, could you not always—”

This was when he caught sight of the adorable babe behind her. Fei Zhao walked over and stroked his ears curiously, drawing a cold glare from Qinghan, whose tail swung up and knocked his hand aside. Caught completely off-guard by this, Fei Zhao was sent sprawling to the dirt. “Zhe Huo, where in the world did you find this little fox demon?” he wailed.

Zhe Huo herself was in awe, and glanced over at Qinghan, who looked up at her with innocent blue eyes and whispered, “I don’t like other people touching me.”

She could clearly recall him having no problem getting all touchy-feely with her back in the cave when they’d first met. She’d even stripped and washed him! What was with all this no-touchy nonsense now?
