The Era of Gods - Chapter 35

Against such brutal creatures, the Murlocs were powerless to resist. However, as the Murlocs bore the brunt of the first wave of assault, the Abyssal Boars’ speed was reduced, and the Naga, lying in wait, launched their attack.

Salted Fish Spike granted them fivefold burst damage. The Naga swayed their body quickly. Sparks flew when their thick scales rubbed against the gravel on the wasteland as they charged into the horde of Abyssal Boars, knocking them some three or four meters and nailing them onto the ground with their spears.

But the power of the abyss gave these ferocious boars great vitality. Even after such attacks, they were still alive, groaning as they attempted to get up.

Feeling the Naga’s threat, the Abyssal Boars that were further away grunted irritably and turned around. Above their mouth full of fangs, their tiny bloodshot eyes glared in rage as they dug the ground with their hoofs, lowered their heads, and slammed over.

The charging speed of the Abyssal Boar was immense, but the Naga weren’t slow either. Besides, their bodies were too flexible, especially after learning from the previous combat experience. At the very moment the Abyssal Boars arrived near them, they violently twisted their snake-shaped bodies to the side, to the point where they were almost flat along the ground. The Abyssal Boar slammed into nothing while their limbs collided with the Nagas’ serpent-like lower bodies. Immediately, they were knocked off balance and fell, heads first, to the ground, plowing out grooves of blood and broken fangs.

After many battles, the Naga began to gradually discover their talents and formed their own unique fighting style.

This kind of in-situ dodge was really too bizarre. With one unexpected dodge in a quick battle, it could completely shift the course of the battle.

Even with the thick skin and flesh of the Abyssal Boar, it didn’t do well to have their face shoveled against the ground. Many of them couldn’t get up after their fall and were easily killed by the Naga.

But this wave of Abyssal Boars had persisted for more than five minutes. The portal opened once again, and the next wave of invaders arrived——

A hoard of 200 Havoc Demons!

Lin Xiao didn’t know if the other end of the portal was located in the abyss of some random crystal shell, but up until now, the creatures that appeared in this Endless mode challenge were all Abyssal Creatures, with each wave stronger than the one before.

Although the Havoc Demons in this wave weren’t as plentiful, the threat they posed was way higher than any previous wave.

As a common fodder-type troop of the abyss, the Havoc Demon was large in size, standing at more than two meters tall. Its body was covered in a thick layer of keratin armor and was naturally imbued with a disgusting stench. The species was extremely high in terms of combat power.

Once they exited the portal, the ground full of corpses and the ambiance of slaughtering made them unleash a cry of delight as they leaped towards the Murlocs and Naga in excitement.

The Naga weren’t afraid either. The few leaders raised their spears and roared. Under their command, a legion of Murlocs swarmed forward.

Both sides quickly grew close. At a range of about 50 meters, the Murlocs grew enraged and charged into the Havoc Demons at immense speeds. Their Refined Iron short spears pierced the armor of the Havoc Demons, but after making a hole, the tip of their spears got stuck.

Paying no attention to their own injuries, the Havoc Demons revealed a sinister grin as they grabbed the nearby Murlocs and tore them apart. In a split second, almost 200 Murlocs were slain.

“Insufficient strength!”

The Murloc’s strength wasn’t that great even after being multiplied by five, not enough to inflict fatal damage to demons equipped with natural armor like the Havoc Demon.

This was a crushing disparity. Even if they didn’t have weapons and abilities, these 200 Havoc Demons could easily slaughter tens of thousands of Murlocs.

The Naga noticed this, too. One Naga waved its short spear, emphatically commanding the Murlocs to press on with the assault and, in the meanwhile, instructing its own companions to attack simultaneously, using the Murlocs as fodder.

When one of the Murlocs collided head-on with a Havoc Demon and was torn into half, one Black-scaled Naga, seizing the opportunity, charged forward and stabbed its spear through the Havoc Demon’s back. The Havoc Demon bellowed in rage and swiped its claws backhand. The Naga twisted its body, evaded the attack, and stabbed another spear onto the Havoc Demon’s neck, poking a hole almost as large as that inflicted by a Murloc with Salted Fish Spike, but a little shallower.

The Naga’s normal attack was slightly weaker than the Murloc’s burst attack. However, being a normal attack, they wouldn’t exhaust all their energy and become defenseless like the Murlocs.

However, if the Naga were caught by the Havoc Demon, their outcome would be similarly miserable.

The Havoc Demon’s physical capabilities were much stronger than the Naga. Their physique was at least two points higher. Covered in armor, their Defense was exceptionally high. According to the common method of evaluation, the Havoc Demon was classified as a Level-2 Troop. They were the crème de la crème, the strongest of their tier.

The Naga, on the other hand, were the best among Level-1 Troops. The two species were a whole level apart.

If not for the Nagas’ fast speed and high evasion, they would have been slaughtered immediately.

But, after all, they were a level apart. There was a limit to the Nagas’ speed, and no matter how great their evasion was, they could not avoid 100% of the attacks. Speaking of the devil, when a Naga was evading an attack, with its body held close to the ground, the attacking Havoc Demon roared furiously, leaped onto the Naga, and pressed it down. A pair of razor-sharp claws directly penetrated the Naga’s scaled, pressed into its body, made a twist and a tug, and shredded the Naga apart, tearing out a chunk of flesh along with its internal organs.

Less than two meters away, two Havoc Demons grabbed a Naga. One of them pressed its upper body and viciously chomped down on its neck, while the other stabbed a hand through its serpent-like tail and tugged violently. The Naga’s serpent-like tail was shredded into six bloody skewers by the razor-sharp claws.

A little up ahead, three Naga knocked a Havoc Demon to the ground. Six Refined Iron short spears stabbed into the Havoc Demon’s face and chest at the same time, with one of them penetrating its foul-smelling mouth.

The enraged Havoc Demon turned over, grabbed a Naga, and abruptly tore off the Naga’s entire head, but was itself stabbed through the brain by a Naga who lifted its tail four to five meters high into the air and hurled down a spear.

On the battlefield, it took almost two to three Naga to barely resist a Havoc Demon, and it still wasn’t a guaranteed win. The Murlocs were completely unable to help. Occasionally, when they saw a Havoc Demons get knocked down they charged forward to seize the opportunity, but the outcome would be that they would leave a wound on the Havoc Demon, while they themselves would die gruesomely.

And this was the result after using the Salted Fish Spike. Their normal attack couldn’t pierce the Havoc Demons’ defenses at all.

The Havoc Demons’ combat power was way stronger than Lin Xiao expected. As he stood in the sky and overlooked the battlefield, even infromhis perspective, he couldn’t discern which side was winning at the moment.

Unfortunately, the ability ‘Salted Fish Spike’ had a cooldown of 10 minutes. In the previous wave, most of the Naga had used their ability, and thus were unable to use it again in this wave. But even without the burst damage, taking down these Havoc Demons wasn’t an issue.

Compared to Lin Xiao’s still stable expression right now, in another plane, as his classmate Meng Hui was watching the situation in his plane, his face was gloomy to the extreme.

Before the finals, he had accumulated more than 2000 kobolds. He had descended among them with this True Incarnation and trained an army of more than 1000 kobolds in a formal way.

He originally thought he would perform well in the finals, and it was as he expected during the earlier stages. He performed very well in the first few stages, so when he heard the rewards for the bonus challenge from his class teacher, he still wondered if he could last until the very end.

However, after the fifth wave of Endless mode, he realized that his dream was about to be shattered.
