The Era of Gods - Chapter 3

Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

Lin Xiao had just been waiting for his cheating system to activate, then he’d be unstoppable. He considered the gifts he’d been given mostly useless in the face of the power of the Creation Cube, so he had everything stored at his mother’s place.

Now that his cheating system was activated and usable, he would naturally have to get all of them back. He had to improve his strength quickly and prepare for the finals. He truly didn’t want to be assigned to Regular Class where he would have to mount a comeback at a later time. That would be too arduous of a task.

Jin Yunzhu didn’t question him about what prompted him to ask for his stuff back. Like any other mother, she only exhorted him to work hard in his studies. Of course, she knew that Lin Xiao’s results in the past six months were meh, but she didn’t urge him. Not to say that she wasn’t concerned, but she had already made a point to him a long time ago that if his results weren’t great, she would have him to stop attending school as she and his father had already prepared enough resources for him to become a demigod.

This moved Lin Xiao so much that there were many instances that he wanted to tell them that he was confident that he could catch up at a later time. However, as he couldn’t tell them about the cheating cube, he had to keep his confidences to himself and let them worry about him.

Fortunately, the cheating cube was already activated. He couldn’t wait any longer. He would be able to soar the skies real soon. He believed that he could definitely make his mother, who was in fact a few hundred years old but still looked like a 28-year-old young lady, surprised and happy the next time they meet.

Demigods were able to freeze their appearance in time and had lifespans that were calculated in the tens of thousands of years. Perhaps their existence wasn’t out of the ordinary in the Overworld that was governed by such strict rules, but when placed in a different crystal shell, every demigod was a terrifying existences that could call upon the winds and rains that every mortal had to look up upon.

After finally dismissing his mother, Lin Xiao was left with an exquisite tiny box exuding a faint golden light in his hand. In it was all his red packet money over the past seventeen years.

Rubbing his palms somewhat nervously, he opened the box. A ray of dazzling gold light radiated from within. It was so bright that he couldn’t help but close his eyes.

When the golden light dimmed slightly, only then could he clearly perceive the items which were lying quietly in the box, which were… two cards?

“Why are there only two cards?”

Just as he was about to ask his mother, a message from his mother popped up on his wrist binding:

“I forgot to tell you, your father took away all your stuff and replaced them with two cards that suit you really well. Take a look and see whether if you like it.”

Lin Xiao, “…”

What else could he possibly say? He must first have a look at them before he would decide on whether he liked them or not. He took out the two cards and placed them in front of himself. The attributes of the cards revealed.

4 Star Racial Card—— Greymist Murloc (Common): Grants 400 adult Greymist Murlocs.

Note: Consist of 50% male and 50% female.

5 Star Racial Breeding Card (Uncommon): Species fertility +300%, Survivability +300%. Lasts 10 years.

Note: This card does not stack with cards of similar effects. Only one card can be used in one instance.

“This…”

Lin Xiao rubbed his chin, feeling that these cards were pretty neat.

He remembered that the cards his parents gave him usually hovered between one star and two stars. There was only one time when he had received a three-star card. He received a total of seventeen cards over the course of seventeen years. The total value of those was estimated to be equivalent to these two cards, but their practicality was far from comparable.

There was one Racial Card that could instantly give him 400 adult Greymist Murlocs, while the other Racial Breeding Card could hasten up a species’ reproduction speed. According to the ratio of the flow of time between subspace and the Overworld, ten years in subspace would be ten days in the Overworld. In ten days, he would be able to physically perceive the effectiveness of this card.

Most importantly, for all beings that had just awakened to their Divine Nature, from when they first established their Divine Realm to the moment before the College Entrance Examination, they could use only one card per Overworld month to improve their strength.

Speaking of which, Lin Xiao really wanted to diss on this restriction where one could only use one card per month. In a years’ time, each student could only use 12 cards. This may be nothing for ordinary students, but for students with backgrounds, it could really become a limitation.

But he had no choice. The Divine Realm he had established was immensely frail. The items within the cards were beyond the rules of the Divine Realms. Should they be integrated into a Divine Realm, they were bound to incite fluctuations. The time for a Divine Realm fluctuation to settle was a month.

Generally speaking, the fluctuations produced by differing cards would be different. For instance, fluctuations produced by cards such as Racial Cards could also be referred to as Influences. Influences definitely had a greater magnitude than fluctuations generated by cards used to summon weapons. Meanwhile, Influences incited by five-star high-level cards would, for sure, be more massive than that of one or two-star cards.

However, students generally couldn’t accurately assess the time of influence. Thus, for the sake of unification, the rules were enacted with the one-month influence period for five-star cards as the standard.

As for why a number of cards could be accumulated, this involved a word called Stability. If a Divine Realm wasn’t integrated with cards for an extended period of time, the Divine Realm would become more and more stable, thus allowing one to integrate multiple cards into it at a single instance until the stability limit was reached.

However, this situation would change slightly after eleventh grade. The Divine Realms of students above eleventh grade were generally developed. When integrated with cards, the stabilizing would be even quicker, which would mean that more cards could be integrated.

In other words, every month in the first year where a Divine Realm was established, it could only be integrated with one card.

In the second year, it could be integrated with two cards per month.

At twelfth grade, it could be integrated with three cards per month.

Beyond twelfth grade, if one could become a demigod, the upper cap would increase yet again. However, if one could not become a demigod, the number of cards eligible for integration would remain the same as in twelfth grade. It wouldn’t be increased.

Because of the particularity of these three years of senior high school, these three years of high school was also called the golden three years. These were the three years to lay down a solid foundation. If one could not become a demigod after three years, the possibility of one racking up a Divine Role may decrease year by year, and the later it got, the slimmer one’s chance would be to become a demigod.

Of course, this rule was only valid for students from regular schools. For people such as the dropouts, they could use cards limitlessly to enhance their Divine Realm without having to abide by this rule.

But the consequence would be that the stability of their Divine Realms would decrease, which would affect their foundation. Not only would it become difficult for them to assume a Divine Role and become a demigod, but it would also become almost impossible for them to ignite their Divine Flame and become an immortal True God.

Therefore, any student who aspired to become a True God would strictly abide by this rule and would never be bold enough to take their chances in seek of quick success.

Up until now, Lin Xiao hadn’t used even a single card. However, he had already accumulated eight chances. Now, he would use his cheating cube to strengthen low-level cards into high-level cards and maximize his gain under the condition of limited usage.

Putting these two cards away with the three cards from earlier on, he laid back into the Log-in Cabin. Once the cabin door was closed, a mist light blue in color suffused. This was a unique energy in the game cabin. It could calm the mind and provide nutrients that were essential for one’s bodily maintenance.

Taking out the crystal circlet from the card slot and putting it on his head, he closed his eyes and prompted his mind. Lin Xiao only felt his consciousness sinking into the boundless darkness, arriving at a place where there was nothing but countless stars in the distance.

This was subspace, the space between the Overworld and the Chaotic Void Ocean. All the Gods of human civilization, from as low a divine life like him, to stronger ones like demigods and True Gods, to even the few legendary gods with great divine powers, resided within this subspace. Those countless starlights were a representation of different Divine Realms.

Via the link between his Log-in Cabin and his Divine Realm, Lin Xiao once again descended into his own Divine Realm. A golden phantom appeared above a tiny space.

Lin Xiao’s Divine Realm was 5,000 meters long, 3.5 kilometers wide, and one kilometer in height which included the depth below the soil and the space above the ground. Of which, 78% were shallow seas, 15% were peninsulas, and 7% were islands.

Looking down from the air, the whole world was a picture with left to right being length, and top to bottom being width. More than half of the area to the right was ocean. On the west coast of the world, there was a belt of coastal hills. On top of it, were a few lichen plants, a few coconut trees, and a long sandy beach that stretched from the top to the bottom. The Greymist Murloc tribe was right at the bottom left corner of the Divine Realm.

In the sea, there were a small number of islands ten to a hundred square meters large. Most of the islands were bare rocks with a little moss in the center that had no resources.

Across the entire Divine Realm, in addition to Greymist Murlocs which were the main species, there were only four other species of sturgeon, sardines, blue prawns, and port crabs. These were the default biospecies when the Divine Realm was first opened. They mainly served as food for the Greymist Murlocs to hunt.

On the whole, this Divine Realm was rather barren. If no changes were brought to this Divine Realm, by development based on this little amount of resources, it was almost impossible that he would get admitted to even the worst universities.

In other words, it may be impossible for him to acquire a Divine Role and become a demigod even throughout his entire lifetime.

As for why Lin Xiao was so confident and able to endure this for long, aside from the fact that he had the cheating cube, the main reason was that he was born to a pretty good family in this lifetime. His parents were both demigods, not the best, but definitely not the worst. As their only child, he had no issue being provided with the resources to make him a demigod.

At present time, which was less than an hour since Lin Xiao last left the Divine Realm, according to the flow of time between the Overworld and Divine Realm, more than half a month had gone by in the Divine Realm. At this moment, the Greymist Murloc tribe had long forgotten the battle that took place half a month ago. The entire tribe had reverted to its original state. A large group of Greymist Murlocs were fishing in the shallow waters under the leadership of the Murloc leader, who was many times stronger than its kin.

This Murloc leader was usually the leader of the Greymist Murloc tribe, but when needed, Lin Xiao could occupy his physical body at any time and descend. This Murloc could be considered his dedicated descending vessel.

Apart from that, in fact, all the Gods of Divine Realms had a real body, but only a very few would ever show up in person. Usually, the others would also assign themselves a vessel for common use, just like he did.

Although this was called a Game of Deification, it was not a real game where one could be resurrected indefinitely. If one’s real body were to perish, it would spell a true death.

Lin Xiao didn’t disturb his spawn. He looked left and right, morphed into a ray of golden light, and flew to the far right of the map, which was the deep-sea area for the Greymist Murlocs. There was an island over here where the Murlocs would never visit. Hence, he used it as his temporary resting place.

A total of five cards were lined up.

Firstly, he put aside the 4 Star Racial Card that could instantly summon 400 Greymist Murlocs, and the 5 Star Racial Breeding Card. Then, his eyes fell on the remaining three cards.

3 Star Resource Card—— Fertile Black Earth Soil (Uncommon).

3 Star Ability Card—— Thrust (Common).

2 Star Ability Card—— Excruciating Pain (Common).

Lin Xiao scratched his chin and thought for a moment. The two ability cards could very well be combined.

In fact, he had long thought of the various ways he could use his cheating cube. Unlike any other cheating system that required one to figure them out, after he obtained this cube, he was already well-aware of its functions. He imagined himself using the cube many times in the past.

He actually had two vague ideas in his mind, but one of them involved the other cards which were being held by his mother. Now that all his cards were swapped out for these two high-level cards, that idea was down the drain, and that would leave him with just one idea.

And that would be…

He stretched his hand, and a speck of white light fluttered outwards and drew the outline of a cube following a series of dazzling flashes.

As he prompted his mind, the cube quickly became the size of a football and hovered in front of him.

He grabbed the 3 Star Resource Card ‘Fertile Black Soil’ in front of him. He probably wouldn’t be using this card for a very long time, making it the perfect choice to be disassembled.

He pressed the card on the cube, and it sank into it just as so. In the next second, the cube began to rotate while emitting a faint brilliance.

Along with a gentle ‘click’, the rotating cube stopped. The resource card in the cube had already disappeared, replaced by a peculiar energy that was stored within the cube.

“Cube of Creation… I think I’ll just call that the Energy of Creation!”

Lin Xiao pinched his fingers, took out 2 Star Ability Card ‘Thrust’, and place it into the cube. Once again, the cube started rotating.
