The Era of Gods - Chapter 28

Besides, those that could climb their way up to becoming Gods from the very bottom were all formidable figures. Each of them was immensely powerful and favored by major forces.

However, there were too few of that kind of people, too few compared to those born of regular classes.

There were a total of 10 classes in No. 5 Middle School, but only five for eleventh grade. Besides, the fifth class wasn’t even fully occupied, as more than half would have been eliminated during the finals in tenth grade.

Moreover, there was no maximum for this kind of elimination. As long as one failed the first wave of assessment, they would be eliminated, and even if there were too many eliminations, no mercy would be given. In the past, there had been bad years where there were fewer than three classes in the eleventh grade.

After the elimination phase came the greatest emphasis of the finals. The ranking phase, also referred to as the placement system, would distribute students into the Elite Classes according to their rankings, while everyone below the designated threshold would be assigned to Regular Classes.

The specific content of the exam wasn’t mentioned, but based on past sessions, students would most likely have their trail at a plane in the outer realm which was controlled by the school.

After reading the notice, Lin Xiao tapped his chin. In the corner of his eyes, he saw a familiar figure. It was Yuan Hong, coming in with a backpack. A few of his classmates chattering at the door greeted him immediately.

“Tsk!”

He turned around enviously. He wanted lackeys, too. Lackeys would quickly become useless for him, of course, but having them surely felt good.

In eleventh grade, teachers would encourage students to form parties. It didn’t necessarily have to be their classmates. Students from other classes would do the trick as well.

In twelfth grade, groups would basically have come into shape. By then, combined classrooms would basically focus on the students as a team.

It was intended to prepare for the establishment of Divine Systems. Many of the native Gods in the outer realm existed in a Divine System. Even if a tiny plane had only one Native God, they would have demigods as their subordinates. Basically, no God would exist as a single body.

Although Lin Xiao had the cheating cube, he would also have to find some companions in the future. However, his requirements for his companions weren’t just high, they would at least have to be on the same level as Yuan Hong and Wan Chuan for him to even consider them. Only those people could barely keep up with the rhythm of his growth.

This certainly was no easy task. After all, powerhouses in the same grade as him, like Yuan Hong and Wan Chuan, were all bosses in their own right. It was impossible for him to make them his lackeys.

However, it is better to leave a deficiency uncovered than to have it covered without discretion. He wouldn’t lower his standards. Even if people to fill his requirements didn’t exist, he wouldn’t find random people to fill up the spots. Being alone was no big deal. Subduing the native Gods of the outer realm when he would invade the outer realm would be fine as well.

Or maybe, he could find himself a pretty wife?

Just like his dad and mom, supporting each other as husband and wife would be pretty great as well.

Rubbing his teeth, Lin Xiao raised his head suddenly and saw Yuan Hong staring at him. Seeing him raising his head, Yuan Hong sneered in disgust and turned away.

“What the actual? Never seen someone drool before? Must he stare at me like that?”

He lowered his head, looked at himself, touched his handsome face, then suddenly quivered and looked away hurriedly.

As time went by, students arrived one-by-one. Finally, Wan Chuan, who was as strong as a giant, came with the class teacher. When he entered the classroom, Wan Chuan first glared at Lin Xiao, and finally fixed his eyes on Yuan Hong. Even outsiders could see the challenge in his eyes.

Having amassed his second point of Divinity, Wan Chuan’s potential had immediately caught up with Yuan Hong. He could already pose a major threat to the first place in the class.

Yuan Hong immediately turned to look at Wan Chuan after he came in. As the two glared at each other, one could faintly see the sparks emitted from their eyes.

As for Lin Xiao, the two didn’t regard him as their main opponent.

He was happy and relaxed, smirking as he watched the two glare at each other cockeyed. It would be awesome if he had a bag of popcorn.

Unfortunately, this situation didn’t last for long before their class teacher interfered by knocking on the table. The few thuds made everyone snap out of whatever they were doing.

Wu Hai swept his gaze across the students with a blank expression and said, “Long story short, I believe that all of you have gone through the newest information on our school’s official website and learned about the contents for the finals this year. According to the elimination system, I predict that half of you in the class will fail the first phase.”

Having said that, he paused for a while, glanced at the many students in the class, and continued, “This is cruel, but the school has limited resources, so we can only prioritize bringing up excellent students. For those who are eliminated… nowadays, there are plenty of alternatives for dropouts. It isn’t that you have no chance to further improve yourselves. Hard work is all that you need.”

Arriving at this point, the class teacher became silent.

This sentence was no more than empty comfort. In truth, of the 10,000 students that were eliminated during tenth grade, less than ten would ultimately become demigods, not even one in a thousand.

But this was reality. No matter what era or world, only a handful of people could reach the top.

Lin Xiao was fortunate about his decent luck. With both of his parents being demigods, he could almost certainly establish a Divine Realm. If he were the child of ordinary people, without his cheating system, the success rate of him establishing a Divine Realm would less than one in a hundred.

Half an hour later, the students, a bundle of nerves and emotions, were bought to the third floor by the invigilator. This floor was divided into many tiny grids, each with a Divine Realm Log-in Cabin. During the final examination, students would be using the Log-in Cabins provided by the school to enter their Divine Realms.

There was only one reason for this: to prevent cheating.

Yes, cheating existed in every era. This Era of Gods was no exception. There were plenty of methods. The most common of all was spending tons of money to purchase special cards to temporarily boost their strength.

For students with better connections, and those who had a True God in their family, they could ask a True God to imbue them with their Divine power directly.

Well, whether or not one could find a True God to do so was another issue, but the point was that such a cheating technique existed.

When students logged into their Divine Realm via Log-in Cabins customized by the school, under the supervision of the many True Gods at the school, no one would be able to pull off a cheat.

Lin Xiao was randomly assigned to room 41. He pushed the door open and went in. The tiny grid was no larger than the Log-in Cabin.

According to the invigilator’s instructions, he first inspected the Log-in Cabin. Although they were already inspected and were sure to have no problems, checking ought to be carried out to avoid accidents and to have it debugged at the same time. That done, he hopped in and lied down.

As the cabin hatch gradually closed and light-blue mist poured outward, Lin Xiao slowly closed his eyes.

Within the vast subspace, a massive golden platform stood within the void. The violent storms of subspace couldn’t move this platform at all. Streams of light fell from the depths of the unknown onto the platform and turned into young lads and ladies.

Lin Xiao slowly opened his eyes. The first thing that came into sight was the golden floor and complex patterns underneath his feet. Raising his head, he saw a transparent dome. Dazzling golden light clouds wreathed the platform as they slowly rotated around.

Among them, he felt the familiar aura of his class teacher Wu Hai from one of the golden light clouds. Each of these balls of light represented the class teachers of the tenth-grade classrooms. All of them were high-level demigods, and with 10 classes for tenth grade, it meant that there were 10 high-level demigods.

At the top of the dome, he saw another few balls of light that were even more dazzling. The one in the very center was like a sun that had all the other light spheres repressed.

If he wasn’t mistaken, that should be the projection of a vice-principal of the school, a genuine True God.
