The Era of Gods - Chapter 19

If his card pool increased, he would have more options to decompose and merge, and it was also possible for him to merge a card that was extremely powerful to hike up his power level. After he became stronger, it wouldn’t be impossible for him to get first place in the class again and enter the top five in the school. When that happened, wasn’t that point of Divinity still his in the end?

Using the others’ belongings to strengthen himself was absolutely doable.

Thinking about this, he raised his head and said with a smile.

“This 1 point of Divinity was harvested became of me. It’s entirely reasonable for me to have some priority. You guys have always been in the top five of our class, so there’s a very high chance that you’ll win it. Although I got first place in this placement test, I’ve suffered great losses, and it’s hard to say whether I will continue to perform well during the finals, let alone getting first place in the class and top ten in our year. So, in principle, I’m willing to trade this priority for a good price.”

Lin Xiao was very straightforward in his speech. Without mincing his words, he openly treated this as a trade. He pointed his index finger and said, “Yuan Hong, you’re the strongest in the class, so the chances of you winning it is the highest. Hence, I shall demand from you a 5-Star card. Any objections?”

Yuan Hong’s face was immediately dragged downwards. He moved his lips, but he didn’t say anything.

Lin Xiao paid no attention to his awful expression. After all, he was the one who threatened him earlier on. He looked towards another top student of the class, Wan Chuan, and continued, “Wan Chuan, your results are almost at the same level as Yuan Hong and are just one place lower than him in terms of ranking. So, your chances are as equally as massive. For that, I shall ask from you a 4-Star Card. Any objections?”

Wan Chuan who was very tall in stature glanced at Yuan Hong who looked extremely awful. Then, he said with a smile, “No problem!”

Lin Xiao nodded. Subsequently, he looked at the three other students who were often in the top five of the class, and said, “A 2-Star card from each of you. Is that okay?”

Compared to Wan Chuan, these three were much lower in terms of competitiveness. If he asked for too much, he wouldn’t get anything. 2-Star cards were just right. As long as they had the desire to give it a go in the finals, they would for sure agree to his offer.

However, what caught him by surprise was that after the three looked at each other, they shook their heads together, “We’ll pass on that. We’re not that interested.”

“Damn it!”

His estimation was wrong. Whether it was because they weren’t confident of themselves or they didn’t take the bait, they disagreed, and he could not do anything about it.

Fortunately, it didn’t matter if those three agreed or not, it was fine as long as the other two did. Yuan Hong and Wan Chuan weren’t that much different in terms of power level. In the usual placement tests, the first would always be between one of them, just that Yuan Hong got the first place a couple of times more.

With the confidence given to him by his strength, Wan Chuan was confident to compete with Yuan Hong for the first place once again.

Next, under the eyes of the teachers and other students, Yuan Hong and Wan Chuan each took out a five-star card and a four-star card respectively and handed them over to Lin Xiao in exchange for a fair competition.

As for the cards, they were random. Even though they were wealthy, it was impossible that they would have more than a few 5-Star cards on them.

But the cards which they carried around wouldn’t be too bad. They wouldn’t be useless cards.

And so, the trade was completed. A Resource Card and a Racial Card appeared in Lin Xiao’s hands.

4-Star Resource Card—— Bison Herd (Uncommon): Summons 100 Bisons. Note: Gender is random.

5-Star Racial Card—— Gnome Tribe (Common): Summons 500 common gnomes. Note: Has 10 Bugbears, male and female each consist of half the number.

The Gnome Card was pretty useless, but this Bison Herd was pretty neat. There was a note behind that stated that gender was random, which meant that if it spawned a certain number of cows, they would be able to reproduce.

Most importantly, bison could be domesticated. They could be used for farming, hauling goods, they could be slaughtered and eaten when there was a shortage of food, or they could be used as front liners in a battle, and so on. It had tons and tons of usages.

Coming out from the Log-in Cabin, Lin Xiao washed his face and returned to the Log-in Cabin. From inside, he took out a total of three cards: The Divine Realm Card, the Resource Card: Bison Herd, and the Racial Card: Gnome Tribe.

After some thought, he put away the cards he obtained from Wan Chuan and Yuan Hong, then took out his wrist binding and sent a message to his parents.

There was a response in less than a minute. Amid the shower of faint light-blue starlight, his lovely mother who looked like a young girl appeared in front of him, and asked gently, “Xiao, what’s the matter?Today’s your last placement test this semester, right? What was your result?”

Lin Xiao couldn’t help showing a genuine smile. With his hands behind his back, he tilted his head and said, “Make a guess?”

Jin Yunzhu glanced across her son’s face and said with a smile:

“Based on your expression, I think you did pretty well. What are you holding there behind your back?”

“Heheh, bingo. Je-jeng…”

He stretched out his hands from behind his back and held the Divine Realm Card in front of his mother.

“Look, your son got the first place in this placement test. Besides, I passed my teacher’s bonus test, and he rewarded me with a Divine Realm Card.”

Jin Yunzhu looked at the Legendary 5-Star Divine Realm Card with surprise and joy. With amazement and glee on her face, she said, “For real? Son, you got first place?”

“This is great, I’m very pleased.”

She didn’t ask him questions like how he managed to get the first place at all, only looked at him proudly. Then, she muttered for a moment and said, “This is splendid. I’ll tell your dad and ask him to get you a reward later.”

Seeing this, Lin Xiao chuckled and said while rubbing his palms, “Mom, as you know, the finals will be in a month. At that time, the results I get will affect my class for the next semester. Though your son has caught up in grades, I’ve wasted a lot of time before this. Besides, I still have a few loading quotas to use. Try talking with dad and see if you could support me with a few better cards. When I score good grades and get into Elite Class and whatnot in the next semester, you can also brag about your son, isn’t it?”

No one knows a man better than his own mother. By looking at her son’s expression, Jin Yunzhu would know if whether he wanted to take a poop or pee.

She covered her mouth and said with her eyes squinted, “You should’ve thought it through earlier. Your dad has already prepared for you a set of 5-Star cards, but you’re the one who said that you wanted to rely on your own. Look at where that’s gotten you now!”

Lin Xiao scratched his head and said awkwardly, “I was young and foolish back then, okay? I’ve thought it through now. I don’t want to work hard anymore. I want to rely on you and dad.”

“You should’ve known,” Jin Yunzhuo pointed her slender fingers at him and muttered.

Lin Xiao couldn’t help but nodded and bowed continuously with his fists held together.

“Yes, I recognize my mistakes now.”

“Hold on for a moment, let me talk to your dad.”

“Aye-aye, farewell, great empress.”

“Loquacious!”

Sending off his mother, Lin Xiao hummed a song as he hurled himself onto the bed. He wasn’t worried about this at all. His parents had long planned for his life. Even if he had no talent, he could still become a demigod with their assistance.

Even an ordinary demigod would have a lifespan of tens of thousands of years, enough for him to enjoy.

One had to say that being born into a great family was surely awesome. Having a father that looked strict on the surface but actually cared for and loved him, having a kind mother which he could say was pretty doting, this feeling…

Compared to the treatment received by other traversers, he was the quintessential example of a winner in life!

Lin Xiao couldn’t get any more satisfied with his family in this lifetime.
