The Editor Is the Novel’s Extra - Chapter 32

Chapter 32- The Main Duty of the Student (10)

From the start, Clayo had expected that his result wouldn’t be bad. However, despite his confidence over that fact, he still felt quite relieved when he heard the older man’s affirmation.

“I see.” He silently sighed to himself, relieved.

“I can’t believe that you are still able to achieve this even when you didn’t join the lecture,” Jevedi said, incredulity evident in his words and voice.

“Somehow, I didn’t feel like joining it… Anyway, I’ll take your words as a compliment,” Clayo replied nonchalantly.

“Yes, it’s a genuine praise. However, is our school a place for you to come and go as you pleased?”

Being an excellent wizard, Professor Jevedi was especially powerful and sensitive. As such, nobody dared to cheat on Professor Jevedi’s test. And since he was the one who made the exam, he was the one who knew it better than anyone else. Therefore, when he returned Clayo’s answer sheets to him, he was confident that he had not made a miss when he marked it.

Meanwhile, Clayo was not concerned about his grades. Right now, he was only glad that he was one step away from being forced to join the army. So, his expression relaxed from his usual neutral one.

In response to Clayo’s calm and unperturbed reaction, astonishment filled his classmates’ heart. They had never expected that he was able to ace this challenging exam. Thus, the whole classroom’s attention was fixed on Clayo, who was sitting at the back.

No way. It’s quite a miracle that Ishiel got nine. Jeongjin thought.

How? How could a kid like him, who had never attended class, answered all the questions correctly? It’s impossible. No one could get everything right even if they took all courses in one semester. Ishiel thought to herself, feeling doubtful and skeptical of Clayo’s result.

Oh, my God! Someone thought, incredulous.

At this time, Clayo looked calm to those staring at him. In fact, he even looked like he was not satisfied with his result as if he was an adult who wasn’t easily satisfied with only ‘perfection’.

Celeste, who was sitting in a row, was staring at Clayo with eyes filled with interest. It was not only her. Ishiel, who had turned her head around, was also staring at Clayo. However, instead of interest, her eyes were filled with sharp light that seemed to be capable of killing a man.

However, Clayo didn’t even notice the girls’ eyes on him as he was busy reviewing the papers’ scores. Soon, the older man tried to soothe the class’ uproar to continue the class.

“Come on, quiet, please. I’m done taking notes. So, this time, we shall take the final practical test.” Jevedi announced.

That sentence fell in the middle of the class like a bomb, causing the atmosphere which had just turned peaceful to be chaotic again. But this was only expected. After all, there was a reason why Professor Jevedi’s class was notorious in the school.

“All of you should have already known the materials by heart. And I expect you guys must have some training on your own time. As such, although everyone didn’t expect that there’s going to be a test today, I’m sure you guys are capable of completing this. With that said, let’s go. Don’t forget to get your practice wands and assembled at the training ground.” Jevedi ordered before leaving the classroom.

“For the 30 people in Group 1 will have to draw two types of magic formula on the training ground. And it will be evaluated by activating the formula through infusing ether to it. As everyone knows, if you make even a single mistake on one stroke, the magic won’t work. However, I’ll be lenient this one time. If you’re able to draw more than 90% of it correctly, I’ll count it towards the evaluation.” Jevedi explained after the students had reached the training ground.

He then went on to divide the children, who were holding onto their baton-length practice wands tightly, into groups. And some of them were so nervous that their ears sweated despite the fact that the weather was cool with a refreshing breeze.

“For the 10 people in Group 2, all of you should at least draw six magic formulas to pass. Moreover, I’ll give you a perfect score if you can open the circle and activate its magic on your own.” Jevedi announced as he smiled slightly.

“Wooo!” One of the students drew a sharp breath in surprise.

“What’s with your reaction?” The dean asked.

“Teacher, I don’t think any of our friends in the first year can open a circle on their own yet.”

One of the students in group two tried to appeal to the older man. However, they were only wasting their time as Jevedi only reacted by raising one of his eyebrow in skepticism.

“Don’t bother to make an excuse. Will everyone else be unable to do it just because you can’t? If you haven’t neglected your training in circulating the ether to your heart, you definitely can open enough circles in your first year. Enough to pass this test at the very least.” Jevedi stated calmly. However, the student was unresigned with their fate, so they persisted in asking the older man.

“Then, I want to ask the professor, when was the last time a first-grade student opened a circle?”

“It was just around 52 years ago. All right, enough chattering. I will demonstrate it first.” Jevedi said.

He then picked up a winding wooden cane and slammed it down to the ground. In a flash, a circle formed and spread over the training ground and out of the school boundaries. As the warm golden light covered the school, many students in their respective classes got curious and stuck their heads out of the windows to take a look.

The dean of the College of Capital Defense, with his rare ability, can put the whole school into a circle based on external barriers. Jeongjin recalled the information in his mind and sighed in admiration.

Jevedi was the Albion’s only Arch-mage and was accorded with the name “Master”. Even Behemoth, the cat, once told Clayo that Professor Jevedi’s ether was on level 8.

It was said that a sorcerer who had reached the eight-level had a circle that was about 1 kilometer in diameter and had eight magical slots in it. If his ring had eight slots inside, it would mean Jeongjin would be able to trigger eight magic formulas simultaneously. From this, you could see how powerful the eight-level wizards are.

Subconsciously, Jeongjin activated “Understanding” function of “Promise”, making a string of golden words, which could only be seen by him, to appear above Jevedi’s head.

[Level 8 Wizard

Title: Patience of Mercy]

While the professor’s circle unfolded to its limits, an enormous magical formula was shown on the ground. Seeing this, Clayo’s eyes widened in surprise.

[Wind] [Sunhwa] [Freshness]. All these three were magic formulas that appeared in their previous exam. And they were executed simultaneously here by their professor! Just this sight alone was a wonder to eyes.

Truly, it was indeed worth it to memorize the magical formulas completely. The three magical formulas made a complex form that overlapped one another. Nevertheless, the components of each formula were still identifiable. And the union between the three was incredibly exquisite. It could be summed up in two words. Amazingly fantastic. Therefore, the students who saw it all expressed their admiration from the bottom of their hearts.

Jevedi, who at that time had just finished observing his audience, suddenly cried out a chant!

“[Blow, Lord of Peace]!”

Instantly, the fallen leaves from the trees were lined up and scattered all over in unison. Not only that, it also caused the birds to fly away in groups, startled. Then suddenly, a fresh breeze gently wiped the hair of the students and made all their unpleasant sweats gone. Even their bodies felt lighter when this happened.

The scale and complexity of the magic shown this time was incredibly different than what Clayo had seen before. Hence, he couldn’t help but get closer to the older man.

Is this magic that you’ve not actively developed before only for training purposes?! He thought.

Jevedi’s role, in the previous manuscript, as recalled by Jeongjin, was only to heal Arthur in his dangerous fights. He absolutely didn’t show this kind of exceptional ability in it!

“The Final High”… It seemed not only the characters, and the events were changed, but the magic skills were also modified accordingly…

Soon, the wind stopped blowing, causing the leaves to stop falling and swaying. At this moment, the students couldn’t even breath. Indeed, he was a professor good enough to inspire his spectators.

After all, even Clayo’s heart was beating faster in exhilaration, so how could other teenagers not feel the same?

Looking at everyone’s eyes that were filled with awe and respect for him, Jevedi spoke with a clear voice.

“Students who could recite more than eight magic formulas, step forward! I’ll evaluate you first. Lippi Angelium, Leticia Angelium, Ishiel Kishion, and Clayo Asser.”
