Chapter 10 – Persistent Visitors (2)

Ishiel’s expression suddenly firmed up at Clayo’s constant denial, and she stood up, gently putting down the cat that she has diligently been stroking up until now. Then, she looked down at Clayo coldly.

“It’s strange. You’re willing to be defiant against a school’s prosecutor…”

Ishiel Kischion muttered out loud as she recalled everything she found out about Clayo Asser. In the eyes of the student body, the second son of Baron Asser was no more than a timid, senseless, and dishonest student.

However, what about the boy in front of her now…?

There was no doubt that he was still skinny and weak. Nevertheless, his eyes and posture had changed entirely. Right now, he looked confident as if he was an adult. Furthermore, his gaze had never wavered even once from her, and he also treated her as if she was a little girl.

Is this boy truly Clayo Asser?

“I don’t know if you’ve heard about it, but the doctor says I got shocked after falling into the river. Not only that, but my memory also got confused…” He continued to validate his excuse, rousing some frustration in the girl before him.

“You’ve never uttered a single word to me before. So, how could you do that right now? How is it possible for a person to change so much just because they got amnesia?”

After all, Clayo Asser was a timid child. Different from him, who was already an adult, he also happened to have a depressing personality. Perhaps a professional actor, who dedicated their whole life to acting, would even think against it.

In the end, people can’t be anyone but themselves. But, I can’t believe I’ve already gotten into trouble because of it.

Even so, there was a reason for her persistence and assertiveness.

Ishiel suspects the mysterious magical summoning case that happened recently was a plot by the other princes to harm the Third Prince Arthur.

“Let’s go to the dean right now and assess your ether. We need to know if you’re indeed a level one student. Maybe I mistook last night’s event.”

At that, Jeongjin suddenly felt his heart stabbed.

If they measured it now, most likely, the result would be a higher level than the original, right?

He could not separate the Promise from his existence. And he had tried. He tried to take it off a few times, but the ring clung to him as if it were glued together with his skin.

The cat looked irritated as it observed Jeongjin.

“Meoow! Meow! Meow! (What have you done to aggravate this pretty girl? You know you won’t be able to cheat the truth of your ether level when they measure it, don’t you?)”

Hearing his fears confirmed by the cat, Jeongjin briskly shook his head and rejected her. To live in luxury, he must not catch anyone’s eye!

“I’m not feeling well, so I’ve to rest for a while. Moreover, I don’t understand why I have to comply with such a demand from you.”

The girl gritted her teeth in frustration. “Clayo Asser! If you don’t comply with this assessment, I’ll file a formal complaint against you in the ‘Ether Level Fraudulent’ registry.”

“You have no proof.”

“There is. I saw it with my own eyes, and that is enough evidence!”

“It might have just been an accident. But like I said, I don’t remember.”

Oh, the irony. Clayo had always wondered why most characters would play the ‘I don’t remember’ card. But now that he faced the same situation, he could only act the same way.

Jeongjin deliberately hid his anxiety with a nonchalant look, fingers still placed on his knees.

“However, if you insist, then we can proceed with the assessment after my illness has passed.”

“Don’t try to play tricks on me!” Ishiel growled.

“This isn’t a trick. Can’t you see I’m ill and tired right now? Is it right for you to unfairly persecute an innocent person who’s sick and tired?” Clayo said sharply, trying to rouse Ishiel’s fair and just personality he read from the novel.

“… How can I be sure you weren’t acting?”

“You can check my roommate and friends if I have any friends, that is. Or is there another person I was in contact with before the accident in the river?”
