Chapter 39 – Promotion!

The moment Zwei touched the towering pillar, a white light suddenly enveloped it.

Immediately afterward, a spiral staircase resembling a piano keyboard unfolded along the pillar.

At this time, another venom glob came flying from the titan tarantula, and Zwei tensed up automatically when he saw it. Fortunately, it was a false alarm because the moment the venom glob hit the white light, it vanished without a trace.

Afterward…as if he was playing out a CG cutscene, Zwei climbed the staircase and arrived in a midsize room.

Visually, the room did not exceed 20 square meters. The ceiling was covered in all sorts of pictorial scripts.

The texts here resembled the texts on the murals he had passed by before. If he had brought a pen and paper, he definitely would’ve recorded these texts for future research.

However, the most striking thing in this room was the cylindrical stone platform in the center.

The platform reached up to Zwei’s abdomen. Based on the golden gleam from the top of the pillar, Zwei judged it to be a treasure chest made of metal.

Carefully, he opened the treasure chest.

The instant the chest was open, the glyphs around the room lit up.

Zwei was initially startled by this situation, and his body tensed up warily. However, he quickly discovered that the light these glyphs gave off was not only harmless but even beneficial!

Due to long periods of activity and dehydration, Zwei’s body was already fatigued. Just a moment ago, he had even emptied his mana pool twice in rapid succession, the consequences of doing so being dizziness and a severe headache. At this moment, however, all of these ailments were gradually easing. In addition, fresh mana was refilling his body, and Zwei reflexively closed his eyes to savor this comfortable feeling.

Soon, Zwei’s fatigue had disappeared completely, and his mana pool was back to full capacity. He felt reinvigorated.

Moreover, the quality and quantity of the mana inside his body felt far better than before. Now, if he wanted to replicate the Mage Hand he used to repel the titan tarantula earlier, he would have to consume only one-third of his total mana pool!

Zwei opened his eyes in excitement. However, what he saw next wasn’t the room he had been in. Instead, he found himself standing in a dark void decorated with one tiny speck of light. Afterward, countless scenes started bursting out of the speck of light.

Boundless forests, snow-capped mountains shrouded in mist, magnificent oceans, scorching volcanoes, vast deserts, thunderous clouds…

The humans’ prying eyes on magic, the elves’ awe toward nature, the orcs’ boorish sacrifices, the monsters’ strange appearances and abilities…

As more and more scenes flooded out of the light, the darkness of the void gradually disappeared.

It wasn’t long before looking at all these scenes gave Zwei a headache. He felt as if someone was cramming something into his brain. Just when he thought his brain might explode from the glut of information, the moving images around him suddenly froze and vanished without a trace, leaving darkness to envelop him once more.

A moment later, the darkness receded as well, revealing the glyph-filled room he was in before.

If not for the cold sweat drenching his face, Zwei would’ve most likely thought he had just experienced a nightmare.

However, he quickly discovered that his understanding of magic—particularly first-circle magic—had deepened considerably. In addition, plenty of new knowledge had appeared in his mind.

Previously, his understanding of magic had been shallow. When teaching Alyssa about magic, he had merely been relaying the knowledge he inherited from his predecessor to the girl. Now, however, he was confident of providing more in-depth explanations and truly instructing Alyssa in magic.

Moreover, with his newfound understanding of magic, Zwei was sure that he could learn first-circle spells even without using a Proof of the Strong or a Skill Crystal!

At this moment, Zwei could clearly feel that he had evolved!

Of course, the benefits he gained from clearing the Honing Tower’s First Floor was far from just some additional knowledge and understanding.

First was the usual Proof of the Strong. Next was a Lesser Skill Crystal tagged with a (5/5) modifier. Although Lesser Skill Crystals only allowed him to learn first-circle spells, this one would still save him a lot of time, especially when it could be used five times.

Last was a bank card-shaped object.

[Gremlins’ Construction Voucher (Level 1)]

Consumable

Effect: This is a gift given to mankind by gremlins who love architecture and pranks! When used on a non-Achievement Building Construction Blueprint, it summons a group of gremlins to construct the building. No resources will be consumed for the construction. However, building time will be doubled. In addition, the gremlins might leave a little surprise in your building. Please don’t be offended, though, as these pranks are generally harmless… Well, generally…

Remarks: “Hey, look! It’s the gremlins from fairy tales! I knew they existed!” — by 8-year-old Tommy.

After reading the card’s introduction a few times, Zwei grew ecstatic.

This was a good item!

Zwei was currently in short supply of Academy Resources. Although the description at the end made him feel a little uneasy, nothing held more attraction to him than a free building.

As luck would have it, Zwei also had the Mana Lake’s blueprint. The Mana Lake cost a lot of Gem resources to construct, and he still hadn’t found a dungeon where he could reliably farm Gem resources. Hence, he had been holding on to the blueprint all this time. Now, with this construction voucher, the Mana Lake’s construction would no longer be a problem.

With great satisfaction, Zwei activated the Return Crystal and teleported back to the camp. He then chose to collect his clear rewards.

As a side note, maybe because he had fumbled so miserably against the titan tarantula, he had gotten only a B-rank evaluation for this raid.

However, despite the low evaluation, the rewards offered exceeded his expectations.

The rewards on the roulette wheel usually consisted of resources, potions, tools, blueprints, and equipment. Of these items, equipment would generally be the best reward.

However, the rewards offered this time were different; all six were magic books. And based on their descriptions, these magic books would allow him to ignore the skill tree’s order. He could learn the recorded spell as soon as he obtained the magic book!

Second-circle Fire Magic: Blaze Impact

Second-circle Water Magic: Seven Constitution Prison

Second-circle Wind Magic: Suspension Field

Second-circle Earth Magic: Earth Sword

Second-circle Arcane Magic: Traction Anchor

Aside from the five second-circle spells, there was also an Achievement Skill that Zwei highly coveted—Moving Cast.

My god! When did the system become so generous?! And I only got a B-rank evaluation this time! If I got an A- or S-rank, how amazing would the rewards be?!
