Finally, she propped up her body and as usual, swallowed all her grievances and bitterness. She offered a feeble reply, “I know, I’ll take the ECP.”
Her voice was almost choked by her tears. She was afraid that Shi Che would see her crying, hence she put up a front with a low deep voice.
Shi Che clenched his hands when he heard Ling Chuxia’s reply. His eyes betrayed the emotion he felt. Almost immediately, he laughed coldly and headed for the bathroom.
The bathroom’s door was slammed shut with a thunderous thud.
Ling Chuxia sat dazed by the side of the bed. She raised her hand to wipe away the tears welling up at the corners of her eyes. Afterward, she pulled open the drawer by the bedside table, and retrieved the box of ECP.
She stared intently at the box of pills, her eyes welling up again. She squashed the box forcefully, unable to take a pill out from the box.
Shi Che’s disdain for her was obvious. Every time he slept with her was for satiating his needs. He had either worn protection or wanted her to take the pills. The chances of her getting pregnant would be nil.
If… if I skipped the ECP this time, would there… be a glimmer of hope?
However, this thought flashed for a quick second and was banished. She would never have done anything to defy Shi Che. He had wanted her to take the ECP, despite her unwillingness, she would oblige.
Ling Chuxia closed her eyes and opened the box swiftly with her shaky hands. She took out a pill, popped it into her mouth, and swallowed hard. It was a quick action, with no more contemplation, as if she would change her mind if she dragged her actions.
After taking the pill, Ling Chuxia felt extremely exhausted, and she would have liked to doze off immediately. However Shi Che was still in the shower. She would never sleep before him. No matter how tired and lethargic she felt, her duty to serve Shi Che had to be her top priority.
Managing her paining body, Ling Chuxia tidied up and put on a new pair of pajamas. She picked up the torn pajamas from the floor and discarded them into the dustbin. Then she changed the bedsheets.
When Shi Che stepped out of the shower, he saw that the bedroom was spick and span. There was no sign of the previous messiness.
After scanning the entire room, he locked his stare on Ling Chuxia.
She had stood respectfully by the side, and lowered her head like a lowly servant. He had gone overboard earlier. She was able to tolerate his outrageous behavior and his rudeness without a hint of complaint or anger. She was indifferent.
