Ji Xinxin’s car halted directly at the entrance of the Shi’s family house. She raised her eyes to look at the majestic and magnificent house. It was pitch black, and a stark contrast to the neighbor’s well-lit bungalow house.

Lifting her brow gently, Ji Xinxin stared at Ling Chuxia and sneered, “Let’s look at this house which is in pitch darkness. I reckon you don’t relish being in it alone? Your hubby’s rarely home. I wonder what the heck you’re hurrying home for.”

It was pointless to stay home alone in such a luxurious and beautiful mansion. At night it may be haunted.

Ling Chuxia, oblivious to her rattlings, smiled at Ji Xinxin. She offered gently, “Thank you for picking me up and sending me home. When you’ve more time to spare, I’ll buy you dinner.”

Ling Chuxia thanked her as she released the safety belt. She opened the car door and alighted.

Ji Xinxin was speechless. Her beautiful big eyes glared at her and she lashed out ruthlessly, “Good grief!” She ignited the car engine and stepped on the accelerator and sped off.

Ling Chuxia stood rooted to the ground, watched the car disappear into the darkness before she turned slowly into the house.

Shi Che had driven out of his office since late afternoon. He had been searching along the road and was unable to find Ling Chuxia. The skies were getting darker, his furrowed brows were gloomy and he kept his thin lips pursed.

He speculated Ling Chuxia’s possible routes and he drove a few rounds and detours to hunt for her. Within a few hours, he had almost covered half the city of Liangcheng. Mr. Chu called again.

“Young Master, the search is over. Young Mistress is home safe and sound.”

Shi Che’s hand trembled as he held his handphone, however his voice was steady as usual, “Oh, is that so?”

“Yes, indeed. Someone called to inform me that Young Mistress has reached home. Ms. Ji had given her a lift home.”

Shi Che’s eyes darted as he remained silent. He responded plainly, “Okay.” He hung up the phone and threw his mobile phone aside.

Both his hands were still resting on the steering wheel, his two thumbs gently locked. With a flash, his lips were lifted and he started to mock himself.

He did not know how Ling Chuxia was able to summon help from Ji Xinxin. But… as usual, when she needed help, the first person she would think of, the first person she would seek help from, would never be him. Perhaps, deep down in her heart, he was just a stranger.

Shi Che sneered and his self-mockery intensified. He became irritable and furious. He turned the ignition, stepped on the accelerator, and sped off as fast as he could.

Ling Chuxia entered the house and headed for the sofa. She sank into the seat in pitch-black darkness. She sat quietly in the dark. For the first time in a long time, she felt really lethargic.
