The Caveman Made Me Awesome - Chapter 5

Awl called out to Ye Xi on the tree, “How long do you plan to stay up there? Hurry and get down!”

Ye Xi came back to his senses and sincerely apologized.

While Plate had been battling the boars on the ground, he had been safely watching from above. It was truly a bad look.

But it was also because the battle just now had been far too stimulating. It had taken Ye Xi, who had lived for twenty-some years in a peaceful era, some time to recover.

Ye Xi released his grip and jumped down from a height more than five meters!

Awl’s heart tightened, and he instinctively ran up to catch Ye Xi. Ye Xi was just an ordinary person!

But then he saw Ye Xi bend his knees and smoothly make a roll onto the ground, lessening the shock at the crucial moment, and then standing up unharmed.

In his previous life, Ye Xi had heart disease and was extremely envious of those people who could jump and run. Later on, he took a liking to extreme sports like parkour, but his body meant that he could only watch and quietly accumulate experience.

Now, he could finally realize his desires.

Ye Xi silently gave his move just now nine points.

His lower legs had been somewhat numb. If he had been able to bend at the knees a little more, he would have been able to further lessen the shock and produce a better result.

Awl vigorously patted Ye Xi on the shoulder and inspected him in an almost frightened manner. Only then did he let out a sigh and slowly say, “Not bad, kid. You’ve got some skill.”

 Ye Xi smiled.

 Awl: “Kid, what’s your name?”

This was the first time someone here had asked for his name.

Ye Xi was somewhat hesitant over which name to tell them, Loose Grass or Ye Xi. Logically, he was Loose Grass, because the Mud Mountain Tribe had captured other members of the Wolftooth Tribe, so they just needed to ask to know his real name. But privately, he was unwilling to give up the name of Ye Xi, because it was the name given to him by his parents.

He had inexplicably appeared here and would probably never be able to go back. Perhaps this name was all that was left connecting him to his original world!

When he thought of this, he lost his hesitation.

 “I’m called Ye Xi.”

Awl was rather surprised. “Why did your parents give you such a weird name?”

He pointed at himself. “I’m called Awl because my parents hoped that I could be as sharp as an awl.” He pointed at Plate. “He’s named Plate because his parents hoped that he would be tough as a plate rock.”

He curiously asked, “But why are you called Ye Xi? Some kind of rare leaf?1”

Ye Xi didn’t explain, only smiled.

On the side, Plate had already retrieved his bone saber. He was squatting next to the body of the boar and drinking blood from the wound.

After a long while, Plate stood up and licked his lips in satisfaction. He shouted at Awl, “Alright, stop chatting and get over here!”

Awl put Ye Xi aside and squatted down to take a big gulp of blood.

Ye Xi inadvertently swallowed some saliva, suddenly feeling like his throat was so dry that it was on fire.

He had not taken on any water since the fruit he had eaten this morning.

Once Awl was done drinking, he stood back up, and Awl turned to Ye Xi and said, “Your turn.”

 Ye Xi was startled.

 He also had a share?

 But…

Ye Xi walked up to the body of the giant boar and slowly squatted down. He then stared at the bloody wound and hesitated.

In the end, twenty-some years of cultured life made it somewhat difficult for him to quickly accept drinking blood.

Awl got impatient. “What are you doing? Hurry and drink! What if something else comes over while you’re just sitting there!?”

Ye Xi shivered and stopped hesitating. In order to survive, he had to throw off the strictures of cultured life and adapt to this life as quickly as possible.

He placed his mouth against the wound and began to gulp down blood.

The boar blood was hot and carried an awful stench that almost made him vomit.

Blood flowed down his throat and into his stomach, and Ye Xi soon felt a surge of warmth.

Once the physiological nausea passed, he actually felt a hint of heroism.

For the first time, he had run for all he was worth. For the first time, he had climbed a tree. For the first time, he had used his theoretical knowledge to jump from a high place. And for the first time, he had drunk blood! These were all things that he had never dared to imagine possible, as his heart disease made it so that even getting too emotional presented a danger.

Perhaps transmigrating to this prehistoric society wasn’t so bad after all!

Once Ye Xi was done drinking, Plate and Awl set about dissecting the boar.

The meat of such a large beast could not be wasted.

Unfortunately, there was a limit to what one could carry. Even a Warrior would find carrying such a large boar very taxing. Moreover, they also needed to follow Ye Xi to the new source of food. Carrying the boar would mean they could not react to danger, so they needed to give a few things up.

The two worked very swiftly. The organs were thrown away, as were the head and tail. The sharp horn was cut off and the fattest parts were cut into several chunks.

Plate grabbed a fern leaf and washed off the bloodstains. He spread out two massive hides and divided the boar meat into two portions. He then grabbed the four corners of one of the beast hides to pick up the hide.

 Ye Xi examined this hide.

The hide they had brought seemed similar to that of a rhino. It was thin but flexible. Even though it held so much meat, it did not break.

But it seemed like they were ready to just carry it away like this.

 “Wait.”

Ye Xi hesitantly asked, “You’re… just going to carry it like that?”

Awl curiously asked, “What, is there something wrong?”

Ye Xi: “You don’t think that carrying it like this is very inconvenient and could prevent you from fighting?”

At this time, both Plate and Awl carried one of the hides, the four corners of the hides tightly clenched in one hand while the other hand held their weapon. Thus, both hands were occupied.

Awl: “But how else can we carry it?”

Ye Xi indicated that Awl should put the bundle down.

He crouched down, spread out the beast hide, and placed all the boar meat in the center. He then brought the diagonal corners of the beast hide together, rolling up the meat in the center like it was an apple turnover. Finally, he grabbed the long ends of the ‘turnover’ and tried to pick the entire thing up.

But his body was too weak, and several dozen jin of boar meat was extremely heavy.

Ye Xi indicated that Awl should come over.

He placed the bundle of boar meat on Awl’s back, passed the two long ends of the hide under Awl’s elbows and over his shoulder, and then tied them on his back. With this, Awl could carry the bundle on his back.

A prehistoric bundle had been brought into reality.

Awl’s eyes widened as he curiously stroked the bundle. Even the composed Plate appeared very interested when examining the bundle.

Awl excitedly said, “This isn’t something your Wolftooth Tribe thought of, right? I’ve never seen the members of your Wolftooth Tribe carrying prey like this!”

Ye Xi nodded, acting against his conscience as he said, “Right, I thought of it just now. I didn’t think it would be this useful.”

Awl gave Ye Xi a thumbs-up. “Xi, you’re a rather smart kid!”

Plate pensively examined the bundle on Awl’s back.

The beast hide bags woven with animal tendons used by the tribe could only be used to carry fruit; if meat was placed in them, blood could easily leak out. Using a bundle like this was less of a hassle, and one could carry it on the back, making it easier to walk.

Every Warrior needed to learn this method of bundling. In the future, they wouldn’t need to keep one hand for holding prey, allowing them to react more quickly to danger. This greater convenience could even reduce casualties in the future.

Plate solemnly said to Ye Xi, “Thank you.”

Ye Xi didn’t think as much of his achievement as Plate and hastily shook his head to indicate that it was nothing.

The three of them continued on their way.

There were still two more slain boars. They planned to take their horns and drink their blood.

But when they arrived, they discovered that three carnivorous dinosaurs the size of cars were already feasting on the boars.

When the three dinosaurs saw them, they showed no intention of attacking. They simply raised their necks in warning and gave strange shrieks before continuing to devour the boar meat.

With these dinosaurs here, there was no need to even think about the horns and blood of these boars. The three of them, though filled with regret, could only swiftly take their leave.
