Surviving As The Villain’s Childhood Friend - Chapter 4

“Wow.”

I peeked out of the carriage window and marveled at the view. Having lived in the countryside since birth, the city was like a different world to me.

Fireworks were bursting in the sky, sparkles floated in different directions.

“It’s magical!”

It was something I couldn’t normally see. I was absorbed in watching the scenery, and before I knew it, I had left the crowded streets and arrived at the outer walls of the capital. The southern outskirts of the capital were under the territory of the Marquis of Evelian. The roads were clean and polished, as if to show off their nobility.

Passing through the quiet road, the carriage stopped in front of a mansion with the Blue Lion emblem.

“We have arrived, lady.”

“Yes.”

I think I was breathing too hard. The Marquis’s mansion was enormous. I couldn’t take it all in at only a single glance.

‘Am I gonna be okay here?’

I was full of high spirits and declared with all my heart that I would go, but now I realize, how would I find a job here…No, will I be given the opportunity to meet him?

I lost a little confidence.

“Are you from the Jayus family?”

“Yes.”

“Let me see your invitation.”

The coachman of the Jayus family presented the guard with the Agelisk invitation with the family seal.

“Thank you for your confirmation.”

After a brief identity check, I stepped off the carriage.

“This way, please.”

The man who looked like a servant lifted my luggage.

“I heard that the eldest son was coming from the Jayus family, but I’m very surprised to see a Young Lady instead.”

The man said with a laugh.

“Oh, there’s a reason…”

Just as I was about to make an excuse, the man shook his head lightly.

“I believe you’re here because you’re qualified. Gender is irrelevant in Agelisk anyway. It’s a place that evaluates solely on merit.”

“Is that so?”

His words stung me for no reason and I gulped down the dry saliva. I wasn’t sure if I was qualified or not.live

” I’ve been looking forward to seeing the rumored Blancis.”

The man smiled ruefully and disappeared through the doorway, saying, “I’ll leave you to it.”

Was Blancis that famous? My conscience, which had already been bruised, disappeared in a cloud of dust. While I was in a daze, the waiting knight opened the door.

“Let me show you around.”

One of the knights standing guard at the main gate escorted me.

“Excuse me, Sir.”

I called him carefully.

“Please speak.”

“We’re not in the woods, are we?”

“Huh?”

The knight gave me a puzzled look, as if my question was strange or something. However, he quickly changed his expression and replied.

“No.”

For a country noble girl, no, even if I didn’t come from the countryside, everyone would be surprised to see the garden of the mansion. It looked like they cut and moved the entire forest here.

“Are there any wild beasts? Bears, wild boars, dragons, etc…”

“They don’t come out.”

I thought if he said there were dragons I would believe him.

Usually, the garden of a nobleman was planted with good-looking trees and gorgeous flowers. However, this one was not. The garden appeared much larger than the mansion.

“How do I send a rescue signal if I’m lost?”

“Just stay put.”

“What? Isn’t that too easy to do? Should I start a fire? Can you teach me how to light a fire?”

“…”

“Excuse me, sir.”

Perhaps my questions were not worth answering.  The knight didn’t respond.

After walking for a while in silence, I saw a horse-drawn carriage.

“Don’t tell me that we ride around in a carriage in the mansion?”

The knight didn’t answer, but I knew the answer from his gaze. It was extremely spacious. After a short ride in the carriage, the building finally came into view.

“I’m sure the capital isn’t as big as this.”

I said this as a joke, but the truth was that the Evelian mansion was really as vast as the castle. The Marquis of Evelian’s distant ancestor was once the king of the Kingdom of Agrad.

‘The king of Agrad.’

I recalled the passage in which Roger Evelian appeared.

<The name of what was to become an empire was certain. Roger Evelian was not a Marquis of the Empire, but the King of the Kingdom of Agrad. He decapitated the head of the statue of Zeid Ereta, who founded the empire, and presented it to the emperor. At the same time, he removed the blue lion emblem and placed a black wolf collar, which was used by his ancestors long ago. It was a clear symbol of rebellion.>

He used the fact that he was of Agrad’s blood as a justification for treason. It wasn’t just a rebellion to occupy the empire.

But now I’ve moved into his mansion and shall change his mind so he won’t rebel. This was my second operation. It would be the hardest and roughest part.

“I will save the world, sir.”

“…”

“I’m telling you, sir.”

The knight frowned outright.

The knight brought me to my quarters. The lodgings were located in a remote part of the Evelian mansion. The main mansion and the detached house were separated by a forest, but the detached house was used for training, and there was a large outdoor training area together with the building.

“Pretty…”

To be honest, it seemed better than my house. Even though it looked old-fashioned without being decorated with all kinds of jewels like my room. I caught a glimpse of the training knights as they were looking at me. The looks were a mixture of liking and appropriate curiosity, I smiled at them. The first impression was definitely important.

“Room 302, here it is.”

When I entered the room, I found my luggage that the attendant had brought in beforehand. The room was for two people. There were two single beds and two desks. My roommate hadn’t arrived yet, and his luggage was piled up not only on the floor but also on the desk.

What reason did he come here for? No matter how different our purposes were, I hoped he was a good person since we would spend three years together.

I plunged through the thin gap and began to pack my luggage.

***

After sorting out my luggage, I laid down on my bed. I was tired after a long time of labor. It’s easy to think of something when you are lying down. All ideas come from a lazy position, don’t they? I slowly remembered something from the novel.

<It’s important to understand your enemy and the environment before carrying out a mission.>

The protagonist of the novel was Luciana, the second daughter of the Count of Cressid. It was a top–notch fantasy novel with no male lead. The story was about the heroine, Luciana, who overcame trials and tribulations to restore the fallen Cressid family. The biggest ordeal that befell her was truly Roger Evelian.

Luciana’s beautiful appearance and gentle heart won the hearts of many men of the empire. One of them was the only son of the villainous Marquis Evelian. There was a plausible story between them, though. It’s not very important, so I’ll pass. What’s really important was that Roger has a deep connection to Luciana.

Roger Evelian was a cold and unsociable man from an early age. But when he met her, she opened the door to his tightly closed heart.

Roger, who waited for the day when he would one day have her, felt a deep sense of betrayal when he learned that Luciana did not have him in her heart. He was madly obsessed with her. Luciana ran away from him and was protected by other men in the process.

The first was the imperial family.

Roger committed treason with the sole intention of having her. And after successfully rebelling, Luciana ran away again. Was this a characteristic of the novel’s protagonist? She was constantly on the run. Thanks to her beauty, there were many men who protected her. Then, Roger killed the men who were protecting her one by one…

He was immersed in an “evil force” that must not be touched. And with that power, he destroyed the world. Many families were sacrificed in the process, including the Jayus family.

When reading the novel, I was excited by the interesting developments…

‘When I come into the novel, I will see all the crazy guys.’

There are two objectives I have to do here.

First, I must not allow Blancis to come into contact with Roger until Blancis turns fifteen years old. This is to protect my family.

Second, I must prevent Roger from turning evil. I know it’s a lot to ask, but it’s the only way to save the world. I’ll try to prevent Roger from meeting Luciana, but I don’t know when or where the free spirit-like heroine will appear, so I’ll pass. If I do see him, I’ll let him know what true love is. All because of his warped love and bizarre obsessions. Even I can’t say for sure if this method would be successful.

<Roger Evelian was a man who had never been loved. Having spent his childhood between an early death mother and an unsympathetic marquis, he was too ignorant to even know what emotions really were. >

He was destined to love Luciana anyway. So I just need to stand beside him and let him know the direction so that he can fall in love the right way. I think I can at least do this.

‘It seems slightly cruel.’

I’ll let him know that love sometimes ends in different ways. Many romance stories have a parted ending. Sometimes, there is love that cannot be fulfilled, love that is unfinished, and love that must be given up.
