Starting With a City as a Transmigrator - Chapter 32

“Check this out! The city hall has put up another notice!”

A group of workers sitting on the ground in the market waiting for job opportunities immediately gathered around the notice board.

“Hey, stop pushing. What are you guys doing?” the two people who were posting notices impatiently said.

But the attention of the people was all on the notice board, so they didn’t hear the complaints.

“Man, hurry up and post it, or you’ll turn into meat pie soon.”

The other person who posted the notice looked very experienced.

“You’re right.”

Soon after, those two men took a lot of effort to squeeze their way out of the crowd.

It was only a small distance, but their heads were already full of sweat.

“Phew! I was almost dead, mate!”

“Hahaha, look at you!”

“I don’t care what I look like, but you gotta buy me a drink!”

“Sure, it just so happens that I haven’t had a drink these last few days!”

After the two finished their work, they walked toward the restaurant.

The position of the notice board attracted more and more people.

“The city hall is looking for a lot of workers? I don’t know how to read. Read it to me.”

“Man, knowledge determines everything. This is what the baron said.”

“I know. It’s just that I don’t want to learn right now!”

“I’ll tell you what it means then. It says that the city hall will build a marketplace and also has plans to move small vendors who don’t have fixed stalls on the street inside the marketplace.”

“Thanks a lot, man. You don’t have to read the last sentence for me, I know it means that interested parties have to head to the labor office for registration.”

Soon after, the labor office was crowded with people who queued up there after seeing the contents of the notice.

After the previous incident, not only were the merchants affected, but ordinary residents were also impacted to some extent.

They needed money, so as long as there was an opportunity to earn money, they would definitely not let it go.

“What a really busy day you have!”

A staff member in the labor office placed a glass of water next to the desk of the middle-aged staff member who was in charge of the registration.

“Stop gloating over there!” the middle-aged staff member said.

“There are so many new buildings and many of them are still empty, so why not turn the empty ones into this marketplace?”

“Do you think that the city hall wouldn’t come up with what you just thought, Jack?”

The man named Jack gave the middle finger to the middle-aged staff member and said, “Yeah, yeah, you’re the smartest around here. So according to you, I might actually become the city lord?”

This statement was clearly intended as an airing of his grievances.

“How about you shut your mouth? Talk some more and I’ll make you do what I’m doing now, you bast*rd!”

Jack shrugged and said to the other worker who was also registering the new workers, “That’s just the way this guy is. You just can’t figure out when he’s swallowed a pack of gunpowder.”

The worker didn’t say anything, but smiled politely.

“Hey, Gerald, I hear you’re the lead architect for this project?”

Jack saw a man walk in and smoothly turned the conversation around.

Gerald, who had just entered, didn’t answer immediately, but walked over to the kettle and poured out a glass of water.

He gulped down the water like a buffalo that hadn’t drunk water for a long time.

But this guy had always been this way.

“Man, every time you come here, you finish a big kettle of water.”

Jack couldn’t keep his mouth idle.

“You’re so full of crap. If you put that energy into doing the same things as Donald, you could also be the head of the labor office!”

Gerald didn’t hold back in his words.

Jack was indifferent. He had been used to this, anyway. “President, I will not fight with Donald for the job. We are friendly colleagues, so why would I compete against him?”

“On the contrary, Gerald, why is a new marketplace being built when we have so many empty buildings?”

“Why should I know?” Gerald found a seat and sat down. “We’ll just do whatever the city hall tells us to do. We’re not politicians, to begin with.”

Jack said, “Aren’t you the lead architect?”

Gerald said, “Man, the lead architect is only responsible for managing the team, not the city hall.”

“Hey, hurry up and give Donald a hand. I need the list soon!”

In fact, Gerald wasn’t in a hurry. He was just lazy to hear Jack buzzing in his ear like an annoying fly.

Jack curled his lips and seemed to be finally tired. He obediently sat beside Donald to help organize the list.

Gerald took out a pack of cigarettes from his tattered pocket, lit a cigarette up, and puffed on it.

The smoke he exhaled formed different shapes in the air, which really matched his identity.

“I have to tell you—smoking isn’t allowed in the labor office,” Jack said as he sorted the documents.

Gerald, surrounded by smoke, squinted and said, “All right, tell me when your president is here!”

Gerald couldn’t care less about the rules and regulations. As a roughneck, he only knew how to put a building up.

“But I want to tell you that those buildings are reserved for the refugees who come afterwards!” Gerald said after finishing a cigarette.

“Who can guarantee that there will be refugees coming here later? There are already too many people in Yale City now!” Jack said.

Jack grew up in Yale City, and in all these years he had never really seen the population of Yale City as large as it currently was.

After all, the former Yale City was hell materialized.

But soon after, refugees once again arrived in Yale City.

And they happened to bump into Wang Lun, who was going to the marketplace to check the construction progress.

“My lord, it looks like Yale City is going to have new residents again!”

Bran, who was walking behind Wang Lun, instantly saw refugees walking through the city gates.

Wang Lun turned his head in the direction of the city gates. “Let’s check it out!”

“You must be the city lord, right?”

Before Wang Lun could say anything, someone among the refugees recognized his identity.

Bran introduced, “He is indeed the city lord of Yale City.”

Wang Lun smiled. “Welcome to Yale City. You are part of us from now on, and I hope you will have a good life in Yale City.”

Wang Lun scanned the refugees in front of him as he spoke.

This time, the refugees gave Wang Lun a different feeling that he couldn’t decipher.

Some of them seemed to be avoiding his eyes, quietly shrinking their bodies, while some looked in other directions.

Wang Lun forced out a smile and said, “All right, I need to attend to other matters.”

“Lucy, bring them to register their identity cards!”

Soon after, Wang Lun, Bran, and Hallmark headed toward the marketplace.

Before reaching the destination, Wang Lun had an image in his mind that he couldn’t get rid of.
