Starting With a City as a Transmigrator - Chapter 14

“Half-beasts generally live in the southern part of the continent. There are many more species apart from the minotaurs.”

Lucy continued to introduce the half-beasts to Wang Lun.

“Oh, really? What other species are there?”

Wang Lun’s curiosity was immediately piqued by Lucy.

Lucy pursed her ruddy and tender lips. They trembled as if about to break open.

“Other species include the tiger-headed, fox-tailed, cat-eared, rabbit-eared, and so on.

“Originally their lives were separated from humans. But due to the expansion of power and endless wars, the relationship between half-beasts and humans became hostile.

“As a result, half-beasts who are in a vulnerable position are slaughtered at will by humans.

“Most half-beasts were caught by the nobles to serve as slaves, while some of the more beautiful ones became playthings.”

Wang Lun raised his hand to his jaw and hissed, “Since half-beasts possess extraordinary strength, why don’t they simply stand up against humans?”

Perhaps Wang Lun had watched too many movies. He thought that half-beasts possessed special abilities that allowed them to compete against humans.

Lucy shook her head and said, “Half-beasts have flesh and blood like humans. But humans have weapons which half-beasts don’t own, so how would they dare to retaliate?”

Wang Lun shrugged and asked, “Don’t they have any kind of abilities? Such as the ability to heal themselves, fly over walls, and so on?”

“Oh, my lord, that’s impossible. I’m sure only God possesses such abilities!

“But, my lord, half-beasts will never be accepted by humans. You should send them away!”

Lucy kindly reminded Wang Lun.

Wang Lun said to her with a smile. “I don’t think of it that way. Since half-beasts are also partially humans, they are allowed to live in my city.

“They also have their own difficulties. I believe that as long as no one provokes them, they will not hurt anyone.

“And don’t forget. At the beginning, you were also in such a predicament!”

Upon saying those words, Wang Lun sauntered ahead.

“My lord!” Of course, Lucy knew what Wang Lun was about to do, but she couldn’t stop him in time.

The appearance of the half-beasts terrified the young lady. But since Wang Lun had already gone ahead, she couldn’t possibly stand on the spot.

She gnashed her teeth, clenched her fists, and shivered as she followed Wang Lun.

“Hey, my friends! Welcome to Yale City!”

Wang Lun spread his hands apart and enthusiastically walked towards the minotaurs.

In an instant, all the minotaurs looked at him, and a murderous glint shone in their eyes.

Wang Lun wasn’t a fool either. It went without saying that he sensed their intentions. He quickly came to a halt.

He forced a smile.

He held his hands flat in front of him and tried to calm the minotaurs. “Take it easy, mates. I’m not going to hurt you. I am the lord of this city.”

Wang Lun’s mind was clear. He knew that due to the hostile relationship between half-beasts and humans, he needed to be on guard all the time as if he were suffering from paranoia.

Upon hearing from the man who introduced himself as the city lord, the leader amongst the minotaurs stepped forth and held back the other minotaurs.

“Greetings, city lord!”

The leader of the minotaurs bowed.

Wang Lun was instantly surprised that the minotaurs actually knew their manners.

What was happening in front of him was unbelievable.

He didn’t expect a day where hot-tempered minotaurs would be polite as well.

“We are half-beasts from other cities. We heard that there is a wonderful city lord here, but I didn’t expect to meet him in person right after entering Yale City.”

There was a hint of tenderness in the words of the leader of the minotaurs. Even though his words didn’t match his appearance, it was apparent that he wasn’t malicious.

Wang Lun took the initiative to extend his arm to shake hands with the other party. Meanwhile, the minotaur leader also did the same.

“Yale City welcomes you. I hope you can find a new life here!”

Wang Lun said with a smile.

“Lucy!” Wang Lun turned to look at Lucy who approached him from behind.

Lucy quickened her footsteps and came to his side.

“Yes, my lord!” Lucy softly whispered.

Wang Lun puffed out his chest and said with a mellow voice. “Register them, and when the time comes, get their identity cards done too.”

“You are no longer slaves here. I will let you live like civilians!” Wang Lun turned to the minotaurs and said.

He didn’t intend to enslave minotaurs like the nobles did.

Yale City was to be a civilized city, so how could the word ‘slave’ exist here?

Of course, it was impossible to remove slaves completely. But the least he could do was to reduce the number of them.

“Oh, thank you so much, city lord!”

Upon hearing Wang Lun’s remarks, the minotaur leader hurriedly bowed.

He was apparently thrilled and didn’t expect what he had seen from that announcement paper to be true.

“My lord, how shall we assign their work?”

Lucy was taking notes in a book when this question suddenly occurred to her.

“There may not be anything they can do in Yale City right now!”

Wang Lun replied, “Isn’t there still a shortage of people in the city’s expansion team now?”

“The quota was filled a few days ago, my lord.” Lucy flipped through the notes she had recorded before.

Wang Lun frowned. Was he about to go back on his word as soon as he promised them?

I must save my reputation.

Wang Lun quickly pondered and very soon, came up with an idea.

“What about Hallmark’s team?”

Wang Lun recalled that Hallmark was in charge of leading his soldiers to mine marls.

Mining was a job that required a lot of strength. Even though soldiers were physically strong, their strength was still limited. Not to mention, if Yale City were to encounter any enemies, the soldiers would have to participate in the battle.

In that case, Yale City’s combat power might be greatly reduced.

Although the minotaurs were irascible, their strength was indeed terrifying.

Wouldn’t that make them the perfect candidates to mine marls?

Lucy turned over a few pages in the book and found the recorded page.

“The mining team does need more manpower. We can send them to work there,” Lucy replied.

Wang Lun lifted his head and looked at the face of the minotaur leader. Goosebumps uncontrollably raised from his entire body.

“That settles it then. You guys will work in the quarry. I will send someone to inform you of the details when the time comes.

“And now, you guys need to find a place to settle down first!”

The minotaurs looked at each other, nodded in unison, and said, “Thank you, city lord!”

They had been slaves almost all their lives, and for the first time, their existences were recognized by someone.

“No need to thank me. You work in exchange for food, so the more you work, the more food you will have. This too, is up to you, so I can’t help you much!”

Wang Lun tilted his head and shrugged.

“Oh, no need to worry about us, city lord. We are a self-reliant bunch!”

Wang Lun didn’t mention the matter of wages. Of course, he thought that the minotaurs didn’t need wages either.

There still needed to be some differences between humans and half-beasts.
