Starting Out As A Goblin Summoner - Chapter 24

Chen Yining found riding the fire fowl not bad.

It could not fly, but could briefly take to the skies and glide.

Indeed, it had no problems gliding over a dozen meters while carrying a person.

Then, they heard the sounds of creatures dashing through the forest.

Chen Yining turned to find some distant thicket rustling, a sight that was rather familiar…

In the next split second, an orange-green blur dashed out.

It appeared that fire fowls, familiar to the scent of maturing golden fruits wafting in the air, were drawn toward it.

However, when this particular fire fowl dashed out to the thicket and saw Chen Yining’s group, it promptly screeched to a halt, turned, and tried to flee.

That was certainly reasonable, given that a goblin and another fire fowl was leering at itself the instant it came out of the thicket.

What else was it supposed to do other than run? Stay and become someone else’s lunch?

After all, fire fowls were known to kill their own kind.

A fight was inevitable should any fire fowl recklessly intrude upon another fire fowl’s territory… unless both fire fowls were of different genders and it was mating season.

Either way, the intruding fire fowl would either be chased away or hunted down and killed.

And now, the fire fowl that had inadvertently intruded into another’s territory could see that, aside from another menacing fire fowl, there was also a very huge goblin.

It was not aware of the title of ‘goblin warrior’, but it had clearly sensed that Green Skin was not one to be easily provoked.

On the other hand, Green Skin reacted intuitively, moving to the rear to intercept the intruding fire fowl’s path when it came to them.

It charged toward the fire fowl as it retreated.

The fire fowl’s eyes turned bloodshot at once, opening its beak and breathing a stream of flames at Green Skin!

Green Skin held up its shield in front of its own body, diverting the flames scattered toward other directions over it.

Then, with its other hand, Green Skin seized its one of it wings and pulled backwards fearsomely, knocking it down to the ground.

“Back, Green Skin!” Chen Yining’s voice echoed from the distance then.

Green Skin promptly withdrew at his command.

And right after it got clear of the area, Chen Yining’s fire fowl descended from above, breathing a jet of flames!

Its flames, twice thicker than the wild fire fowl, plunged from skies above.

In an instantly, the fire fowl that fell on the ground was consumed.

Green Skin spaced out for a moment at the sight, its gaze toward the fire fowl carrying its master subtly changing right then.

The fire fowl… was a little scary.

Looking upon the other summoned beast somberly, Green Skin felt that its position was threatened.

Meanwhile, the fire fowl on the ground was not dead yet—its feathers were fireproof to an extent. Even so, most of it were charred, and there was a faint aroma wafting from its body…

Nonetheless, the fire fowl’s body was fireproof to a certain extent as well since its kind was naturally capable of breathing flames.

Taking to the air despite its severe injuries, lunacy showed in the fire fowl’s eyes as it attempted a last-ditch struggle.

But Chen Yining was not about to afford it that chance.

Green Skin charged out from the flank. Gripping its rebar tightly with both hands, it stabbed it viciously down the fire fowl’s throat.

A crunching sound echoed over the fire fowl’s rather short neck.

It slammed heavily into the dirt before turning into a white light that fused into the Summoner’s Grimoire.

Chen Yining then fused the fire fowl’s image to his own and there was a flash of white light.

After that, the image in the second page of his Summoner’s Grimoire slowly altered.

The fire fowl appeared much larger and fiercer.

Its talons were sharper and its wingspan wider, not to mention that its beak now arched like a scythe.

Be it in color or the markings on its feathers, the three-star normal rank blazing chicken appeared more awesome in contrast of than

Even the scarlet fiery patterns on its feather seemed to be dancing.

And to tell the truth, Chen Yining was a little emotional that only two fire fowls were needed for the next evolution.

“I’m telling you, Master—fire fowls are not collective creatures. Since the two fire fowls in this area have been tamed and killed respectively, there won’t be another around here.”

Furthermore, it appears that the battle had scared off the other large beasts and they could not find anything aside from insects.

Chen Yining then raised his hand to check the time.

They had been out for five hours.

“Let’s stop here. We’ll come back tomorrow,” he said.

Chen Jing finally realized that it was late thanks to his brother’s probing.

“Let’s go, then!” he exclaimed as he wiped the sweat off his brow—overall speaking, they had a satisfactory day.

After all, both him and his brother had managed to secure new summoned beasts, though it was a little upsetting that they did not manage to hunt down that many magical beasts. As a matter of fact, the others tend to flee afar each time they managed to kill a few.

Magical beasts were quite smart… they would run when they couldn’t fight, and they ran very quickly.

On the way home, Chen Yining and his brother made a detour because they were unfamiliar with the path, running into a small group of gnomes. Thanks to the blazing chicken’s ability to fly firefly, only one out of the seven wild gnomes escaped, while the other six all became EXP for the brothers.

When they returned to their own doorstep, Chen Yining dropped to a crouch to study the door slit.

His eyes narrowed into a dark expression. “Someone opened our door.”

“What?!” Chen Jing was quite angry.

“I kept a strand of hair on the door slit before we left, and it’s gone now,” Chen Yining explained, looking up at the CCTV which was supposed to monitor the hallway—it must have long since stopped working due to the power outage.

He smiled then, though there was an iciness in his smile.

With that, he summoned both Green Skin and the blazing chicken, which left the hallway a little congested because of the latter’s size.

However, the flames it breathes would be inescapable in such a narrow space.

At the same time, Chen Yining whipped out his keys and opened the door.

The house was still very clean and it looked just the way they had left it—there was no obvious signs of rummaging.

Nonetheless, the brothers checked the entire house, including the cabinet under their beds. It was only after they ensured the absence of magical beasts that they began making inventory.

They soon found out that they had lost a box of preserved meat, as well as some of their condiments and bee honey.
