Three years later.

“Casey, congratulations on your victory. Did you know that when you were in court, you were glowing like an angel? It was really such a gorgeous sight.” In a renowned commercial building in New York, Shannon’s gaze was trained on the traffic outside the window when Pete’s standard British accent suddenly sounded behind her.

Casey was Shannon’s other name. When she heard the voice, she turned to look at him and saw that Pete was actually carrying a huge bouquet of roses.

“Can you not act so excessively? You always bring such a big bouquet of flowers every time. If this goes on, people will say that we are showing off,” she chided him.

As she spoke, she organized the files for her next case. Shannon was now a very famous lawyer.

She was known as a legend in the industry, having spent a year and a half to complete the three year course.

After graduation, she interned at a famous law firm, and in just over a year, she rose from an intern to become an invincible elite lawyer.

“Casey, why are you so humble? You can afford to be proud.” Pete walked towards Shannon with the roses.

Shannon immediately moved her chair to stop his approach. Ever since she joined the firm, Pete had always been pursuing her.

However, she didn’t like him. Even though he was a handsome blue-eyed blond man who was tall and muscular, and always drawing the screams of fangirls, she still wasn’t moved by this man at all. It had been more than a year, and their relationship had only stopped at work.

“Don’t you need to work?” Shannon closed the case file and ordered Pete out.

Pete’s enthusiasm was instantly extinguished, and he could only leave her office.

Shannon looked at the fiery red roses on her desk, but she didn’t find them pretty. In the villa that Max and her used to live in, she had also planted a large patch of roses. She was always happy whenever the flowers bloomed.

She suddenly felt a splitting headache when she thought about this. Her psychologist’s words suddenly rang in her ears.

“Your insomnia and headaches are actually psychological. There are some things that have always been on your mind, and it pressures your sensitive nerves. That’s why you can never completely recover from your insomnia.”

Ever since she came here, Shannon hadn’t slept well at all.

In her dreams, she would always dream of that familiar face and the horrible scenes of her being driven to death.

She had been here for three years, but she had suffered so many things that others wouldn’t have experienced in their lifetime.

In school, poisonous spiders would suddenly appear in her closet.

Once, a flower pot fell from high above. There was another time where she was walking on the road when a rabid dog suddenly pounced on her.

She had also almost died from a motorcycle accident. Only God knew how she managed to escape from all these calamities.

How could she still sleep well in such an environment? It was already a miracle that she survived.

It was precisely because of this that she desperately wanted to quickly complete her education and escape.

On the day she graduated, her good friend almost murdered her with a knife.

She never thought that someone could disguise as a person’s friend for months so that they could find a chance to murder the person.

Hence, Shannon changed her name as soon as she graduated. Her days finally became peaceful.

However, these memories would haunt Shannon every night. She was tortured by them so badly that only she could only fall asleep after eating sleeping pills

And now, the dosage she took was so strong that the doctor no longer dared to prescribe her any more medicine.

At the thought of this, Shannon no longer had the mood to work. She closed her laptop and got up to leave.

However, when she reached the door, she realized that it wasn’t shut tightly. Immediately, she felt very uneasy.

She left the house and hid in a corner. Soon, two men appeared outside her house.

Her legs weakened. She’d already backed off so much, and yet that woman still wanted her dead.

If she hadn’t suddenly gone home earlier today, she wouldn’t have noticed all of this.

She would have died if she went into the house.

“Pete, can I crash at your house for a night?” Shannon, who was a little scared, called Pete.

Pete picked her up and brought her home, then cooked a delicious steak and soup for her.

“Casey, call the police or find a man to protect you. Otherwise, how are you going to continue living? You can stay with me today, but what about tomorrow?” Pete was anxious for Shannon after hearing her encounter.

Shannon sat on the sofa, her arms wrapped around her legs as she stared blankly out the window.

That’s right, what should I do tomorrow? Even if I was able to avoid it today, would I still be able to avoid it tomorrow? What about the day after?

She had barely survived these few years, but was she going to have to hide forever?

“Pete, I want to go back to my old city. I’ve lived here alone for too long, and I suddenly miss home.” Shannon abruptly made a decision.

She couldn’t hide here for the rest of her life. Otherwise, what meaning was there in her struggle to survive and achieve what she had today?

“Sure! I’ll go back with you. I haven’t been to New Jersey before.” Pete immediately responded to Shannon excitedly.

She turned to look at the man who was busy in the kitchen. She knew that he liked her, but she could never give any man her heart again in this life.

“Pete, I only treat you as a friend. I have to tell you this. I will never fall in love again. You have your own life to live, don’t waste your time on me.” Shannon stood up and walked towards Pete, her tone extremely indifferent.

Pete nodded. He told her not to worry about him, and that he was the one who liked her, but that was his own matter, and didn’t concern her.

Shannon was not in the mood to argue, so she went to the other bedroom.

After another sleepless night, Shannon quietly went out to buy a plane ticket and headed straight to the airport.

She couldn’t find any evidence in New York against the person who was trying to harm her, but that might not be the case in New Jersey.

In the same way as she had arrived in New York, Shannon returned to New Jersey without any luggage. She only carried a small bag and boarded the plane.

However, her state of mind now was entirely different from when she first came. She was no longer the same Shannon anymore.

The uncomfortable flight made Shannon’s entire body ache. After getting off the plane, she stood on the ground and looked at the sky.

Stepping once again into this city after a few years, the familiar smell in the air filled Shannon’s mind with memories.

It had been three years. She wondered how he was…

She walked forward slowly, her mind filled with Max’s figure. His relationship with Janice should be rocky.

Otherwise, Janice wouldn’t have constantly hired killers to harm her. However, this time, she was not going to let others have the chance to hurt her again.

“Hi Casey!” Someone patted Shannon’s shoulder, but she didn’t need to turn around to know that Pete had followed her here. He was really quite ridiculous.

She turned to look at Pete with a reproachful look, but he put an arm around her shoulders and led her out of the airport.

“President, LG said that there’s a problem with our collaboration plan this time. Their representative has already arrived for a discussion with us.” Jake, who was at another entrance, quickly followed Max as he reported about work.

Max walked forward coldly with his hands in his pockets. Suddenly, a figure appeared before his eyes..
