In an interrogatory tone, she tilted her chin up like she was a cut above the rest.

“Erm…,” Ji Anning was dumbfounded. She stammered, “Things got a little busy lately…”

Before she finished, Ji Ruoqian interrupted, “That means you haven’t finished it. You must be doing this on purpose. Registration has already begun. You must finish it today.”

She gritted her teeth and ordered Ji Anning spitefully. The young woman’s indubitably attractive, tender features contorted into the face of a harsh and hateful woman.

“Erm…”

Ji Anning sought to explain but Ji Ruoqian lunged at her like a ferocious animal brandishing its claws.

Ji Anning dodged nimbly with a cunning glint in her quick-witted eyes.

In a split second, Ji Ruoqian’s body lurched forward, sending her swiftly onto the ground in a heap.

“Aah…” she screamed in agony. Lying prone on the ground, she twisted her head around to glower at Ji Anning. She cursed at the top of her lungs, “Ji Anning, you shameless b*tch. How dare you trip me over?”

It was quite the fall and hurt so much that her eyes misted over.

Looking at Ji Anning gazing down as she towered over her, she clenched her fists. She was burning with the desire to rip her to shreds.

The initially placid expression on Ji Anning’s face swiftly evolved into a panic. She stared wide-eyed and shook her head in denial, “I didn’t.”

That innocent look on her face drove Ji Ruoqian hysterical. She swallowed the pain and stood up. Then shook her fists ferociously at Ji Anning.

“What’s going on?”

From the dining room came an authoritative voice roar.

The moment Ji Ruoqian’s hands touched Ji Anning’s back, Ji Anning suddenly staggered forward. She landed on the ground on her knees with a thud.

An approximately 70 year old man came gruffly over from the dining room. The black shirt he wore emphasized his sternness, and his face became even more somber.

Trailing behind Old Master Ji was a middle-aged woman. Catching sight of Ji Anning getting pushed to the ground by Ji Ruoqian, she fretfully went up, “Anning, are you okay?”

She went beside Ji Anning and helped her up.

Ji Anning bit her lip and gently shook her head, “Mom, I’m fine.”

This middle-aged woman was her future mother-the-in-law, Yang Yufang.

“Stop pretending, Ji Anning!” now that Old Master Ji had come over, Ji Ruoqian suffered quite the scare. A touch of guilt emanated from her imperious countenance. Confident Ji Anning was putting on an act, she glared menacingly at her and railed. Then turning to old Master Ji, with her eyes all red, she explained, “Grandpa, Ji Anning was the one who deliberately tripped me over.”

As she spoke, she turned her palms up. They had turned bright red from the fall.

The tears swelling in her eyes promptly gushed down her face like two rapid brooks. It was utterly heartrending.

“Humpf!” sneered Old Master Ji. Beyond question, he distrusted her, “Don’t be too eager to tattle. I have eyes to see.”

Then his eyes fell on Ji Anning again, “Anning, what’s going on?”

Ji Anning bit her lip hesitantly. She was perceptibly dithering and looked like she got put on the spot.

She peered at Yang Yufang, who was beside her.
