When the Ye family bore the status of the Sword of the Empire, they and the Helian family had been on good terms. The two girls had known each other since they were young, and even when the Ye Family lost their status as Sword of the Empire, their friendship continued.
Since Ye Yunxi was weak, Helian Moxie did her best to protect her, so she suffered her fair share of bullying herself.
“Oh, look, it’s Helian Moxie!”
“Your family’s last on the list of the Sword of the Empire, so if you don’t work harder, you would be the next Ye Yunxi!”
“Hahahaha!!!”
Helian Moxie trembled in anger after hearing their insults, and said, “I said you’re not to say anything bad about Yunxi!”
She lunged at the boys furiously as they fled. One of them tugged at her curly hair and another at her school satchel. Helian Moxie looked more like a rabid dog barring her fangs at those who rubbed her the wrong way. She simply could not deal with this and started running in circles.
Suddenly, someone yanked off her satchel and tossed it upwards. It flew in an exaggerated arc and ended up hanging from a branch at the top of the pine tree, swinging to and fro.
Helian Moxie panicked. She stood on tiptoe and stretched out her hand. However, it was a tall tree, and there was nothing she could climb onto to help her retrieve the bag. She got even more anxious.
The boys gathered by the side to watch, and although Helian Moxie was on the verge of tears, they stood there laughing.
“We have tools, would you like some help!”
Lu Wenwei took out a slingshot and teased her, “Shoot it off the tree if you can! Ha!”
Helian Moxie was terribly anxious. How could she go to school without her school satchel?
She snatched the slingshot from the boy and picked up a pebble. She made a few shots, but unfortunately, the satchel would not budge.
The satchel was hanging way too high, and the girl didn’t have the strength to retrieve it. Her shots didn’t get anywhere close to it, much less knock it off the branch. Being able to hit the tree branch was already a huge accomplishment.
The boys laughed even harder now and would not stop agitating her, “Give it another shot! Give it another shot!”
“You can’t even knock it off the branch; you’re just as much a piece of trash like Ye Yunxi!”
“To think you’re a member of the Sword of the Empire. You’d better give up your place to us!”
“We’ve given you the tool, and yet you still couldn’t retrieve your satchel, trash!”
Helian Moxie’s eyes reddened after hearing these taunts. She bit her lip. Yunxi was not a piece of trash, and neither was she. These guys were plain bullies!
“Why do you guys have to bully Yunxi; if you’re so capable, go pick on others!”
Helian Moxie was almost in tears. Then a hand reached over her and took the slingshot from her. The soft fingertips brushed against the top of her head in a comforting way. Then, Moxie saw Ye Yunxi’s slim figure swinging lightly past her so that she was now standing behind her friend.
“Let me do this.”
A silky mop of long hair swept past her eyes as she heard those words. Helian Moxie was moved, more so than she had ever been in the past.
Yunxi was protecting her?
That was so dashing of her!
“Ha, the piece of trash wishes to give it a try?”
“Pffft, can she even make it fly?”
“Don’t hit yourself with it, hahaha!”
Everyone burst out laughing. Ye Yunxi, on the other hand, calmly held up the slingshot, aimed, and fired.
Everyone waited to be entertained. With a whoosh, the pebble struck the branch squarely as though it had eyes and knew where to go. The bag swung to and fro once and then fell right into Ye Yunxi’s arms.
Everyone was stunned.
Freaking hell!
Was that cheating? Could anybody have done that?
Lu Wenwei looked at Ye Yunxi, completely stunned. He lifted his gaze and checked out the height of that branch from the ground. Then, he looked at the slingshot. Instantly he was filled with wonder.
A fluke?
That was faked, wasn’t it?
“Hey, you guys.”
Ye Yunxi looked at them icily with compellingly dark eyes. The boys went numb on their scalps.
“What… what is it?”
“Punishment!”
Ye Yunxi held up the slingshot with an icy smile on her face.
“Bad children have to be punished!”
