In the Brooke residence, Eve was kneeling on the ground, sobbing. She was crying so hard that she was almost out of breath.

“Do you want me dead, huh?” Julius was so angry that his chest was heaving. “200,000 was gone, just like that! If I had known I wouldn’t have let you have that art exhibition! From tomorrow onward, you are not allowed to take one step out of this mansion!”

Eve crawled over on her knees with tears all over her face and said, “Dad, I was framed! That man just appeared out of nowhere! Someone framed me! Someone wanted to hurt me!”

“If you’re afraid of someone framing you, you shouldn’t have copied! Do you know what this is called? Thievery!” It was better for her not to explain at all because Julius became even more furious after that. “Have you learned nothing at school? Do you even know what you’re doing?”

One of his daughters was mentally unstable and needed medicine just to survive.

His other daughter cheated with her own sister’s fiancé and opened her own art exhibition using plagiarized works.

These were the Brooke family’s daughters? How would others view him from now on?!

“Dad, it’s my fault! I’m wrong! I won’t do it ever again…” Eve’s eyes were already badly swollen as she grabbed his leg and begged. “Dad, it’s true… Clarence already promised that he would marry me…”

Julius could no longer contain his anger and he kicked Eve away as he yelled, “The Oaks already told you to stay at home. Now that this has happened, do you think the Oaks would still allow Clarence to marry you? You must be delirious!”

When Flora saw that, she quickly went over and lightly patted on Julius’s chest. “The Oaks already said that as long as we invest 50 million into their new project, they would allow Clarence to marry Eve and make her the proper wife!”

Julius said angrily, “Flora, Eve has gone mad, and so have you?”

He had already checked that investment. The chances of success and failure were both about 50%.

His philosophy of doing business was to be steady and not to be too aggressive. How was he supposed to invest in something that had a 50% chance of failure?

Flora forced herself to be patient, then switched to a softer tone and said, “Husband, now that Eve’s reputation is completely gone, even normal families wouldn’t want her. You wouldn’t know as you didn’t read what was written on the message board. There’s no place for Eve in Auburn anymore. The Oak family is Eve’s best and only chance.”

Julius was so outraged that his fingers were trembling. He pointed at Flora for a long moment before he finally formed a full sentence, “I’m warning you. Forget about the Oaks! I don’t care what kind of agreement you have reached with the Oaks, I will not invest in this project! Forget about this!”

Although he was known to have a bad temper and didn’t smile, this was the first time he was so angry.

“And you!” Julius looked at Eve. “If you dare to contact anyone from the Oaks, don’t call me Dad ever again!”

Eve stood rooted to the ground, with her eyes red.

“Dad…”

Julius walked away as if he hadn’t heard her and then closed the door with a bang.

The reason that he was angry was not only because of Eve disgracing herself in the art exhibition and the money he lost.

The main reason was that they were still thinking of the Oak family.

So what if she could really become Clarence’s wife?

Eve was going to be humiliated forever, and the entire Brooke family would be looked down upon by the Oaks as well.

How could his daughter fall to this point, that he had to pay for her to be wed off to another?

No, he would not allow Clarence to marry Eve.

Outside the studies, the crying from the mother and daughter made him even more agitated.

At night, Julius finally opened the door.

Flora lay on the sofa in the living room. While she was no longer young, her curves were still quite tempting.

As moonlight showered her face, the tears on her face had made Julius less unhappy.

This woman had been with him for so many years. Even if she didn’t achieve much, she still did a lot for him.

Not to mention that she had suffered much as well.

When he thought of that, Julius woke her up in a much softer manner. “Flora, wake up. Go to sleep in the room!”

Flora slowly opened her eyes and then sat up as she looked at Julius. She suddenly sobbed and said, “Do you hate both of us already? If you do, Eve and I can move out right now.”

The way she spoke softened his heart and all he could do was sigh. “We’re still a family. What’s the use of saying things like that?! Where’s Eve?”

Flora was stunned. “She was here just now…”

Julius stood up and walked towards Eve’s room. “Eve? Eve?”

He knocked at the door, but no one responded from inside.

He pushed the door, but there was no one inside.

Julius frowned and said, “Mrs. Jones, have you seen Eve?”

Mrs. Jones then pointed at the bathroom and said, “She’s been inside for a long time. She still hasn’t come out?”

Julius had a bad feeling and quickly ran into the bathroom. “Eve! Eve! Open up!”

There was no sound coming from the inside, even Flora chased after him and said, “Husband, what is it? What happened?”

They gathered people to knock down the bathroom door, and the color of blood had almost filled up the entire bathtub.

Eve was wearing her white pajamas as she quietly lay in it with her eyes closed.

“Quick! Call Dr. Baker! Tell him to come here immediately!” Julius said as he grabbed Eve out of the bathtub. She was still breathing, and so he didn’t hesitate to bring her back to her room and stop her bleeding.

Flora was standing behind him, revealing a terrifying smile as she watched his figure.

Very quickly, Dr. Martin Baker arrived at the mansion with his medical kit.

“It was lucky that she was discovered early. She’s not in any immediate danger,” Dr. Baker said as he cleaned up the wound and prepared the drip. Only then did he raise his head and look at Julius, saying, “She’ll need to rest for quite some time.”

Flora pounced towards Eve, holding her hand to the point where her cry was silent. She looked extremely pitiful.

Julius pointed outside. Dr. Baker knew what he meant and followed him down the stairs after he packed up his medical kit.

“Mr. Brooke, you can be upfront with me.”

“There’s a lot happening in my family. Please keep what happened tonight a secret.”

“Understood. But with Ms. Brooke’s condition, I think it’s best to send her to the hospital.”

Julius looked at the bright room upstairs and said, “No need. I would like to thank you in advance for having to come here and change the drip for Eve every day.”

And then, he passed a card into Dr. Baker’s hand. “Please.”

Dr. Baker refused that card without showing any visible emotion. “I’m only doing what I’m supposed to. Don’t worry, Mr. Brooke. My lips are sealed.”

If he accepted it and something happened, Julius would no doubt blame it on him.

If that were the case, it was better for him not to accept it in the first place.

Julius couldn’t convince him due to his stubbornness, and he had no choice but to let him go.

In the room, Eve slowly opened her eyes and saw her mother who was by her side nod slightly towards her. There was a smirk in those eyes..
