Rebirth: An Assassin’s Revenge - Chapter 19

Perhaps it was because Alexander was with her, that everyone in the police station was quite polite when dealing with her.

It had to be because the person standing next to Luna was Alexander White, a man who could shake Auburn’s very foundations if he wanted to.

Even the director would come out and greet him personally. There was no question on what they had to do.

The entire procedure of taking her statement, submitting evidence, and taking her fingerprint went smoothly.

However, when they were going to start their investigation, Alexander stopped them, pulled the case officer to the side, and whispered to them before he walked back to Luna.

Luna asked him about what he had told him, but Alexander only patted her head and said, “I’ll tell you after a few days. Don’t worry about it.”

Luna didn’t know what was happening, but something in her heart was telling her that Alexander wouldn’t harm her.

That feeling was a bit peculiar.

“I have just called my lawyer, Ashton Smith. He’s quite proficient in these kinds of cases. If there’s anything you’re not sure about, you can ask him!”

Luna nodded and thanked him once again, saying, “Thanks.”

Alexander and Luna got back into their car. As Alexander stepped on the pedal, he said, “You don’t have to be so polite with me.”

It made him look like… they were outsiders. He didn’t like it.

Luna suddenly felt sorry about it, and she said, “Sorry, I got used to it.”

Even though Alexander treated her very well, she kept feeling that there was distance between them.

She didn’t know where that feeling was coming from.

“Are you really sure you want to send him to prison?” Alexander asked. He was half testing her, and half being serious. “He treated you quite well earlier, right?”

“Those are all pretenses,” Luna answered him firmly. “This is what he deserves, and it has nothing to do with whether I want it or not.”

She cared little if it had nothing to do with her. But if she were targeted, she would root them out completely.

Not to mention that she was already quite lenient when dealing with Clarence.

If it were her in her past life, Clarence Oak would only be barely alive by now.

She wouldn’t wait for the law to punish him.

Alexander smiled and said, “Very good.”

It looks like his little wife was not a saint that was willing to show mercy to everyone.

He liked that a lot.

After returning to the mansion, his assistant came over and said that there was an important document that required Alexander to sign.

So he had no choice but to return to the company.

After he left, Luna’s phone began to ring suddenly.

Looking at the word “Dad”, Luna didn’t know why but she began to feel disgusted.

She put it on silent mode and tossed it onto the bed. Meanwhile, she switched on the computer and began to browse the message board.

Now that she had already gotten what she wanted, there was no need for her to open herself up for requests.

She closed it and the webpage. Meanwhile, the entire message board began to go wild again.

“Why did the paragon stop receiving requests?”

“Was it a system error?”

“Impossible, Website X has less than three bugs since it opened.”

“Does that mean he’s retiring?”

“Seriously? Maybe he’ll be back in a few days?’

Luna closed the webpage and then switched off the computer. She lay down on the bed and picked her phone up, “Melody, are you free in the afternoon?”

“After I went out last time, my dad doesn’t allow me to go out anymore,” Melody sounded somewhat powerless when she said that. “Why don’t you come to our home? My mom even asked about you a few days ago.”

Luna gave it a thought and refused, “It’s fine. I’ll go visit you and your mom once I’m done with everything here.”

Melody didn’t force her and she only hung up the call half an hour later.

After she hung up, Julius’s number appeared again.

Luna frowned and picked up the call in the end.

“Hello?”

“Luna, hi. Have you eaten?” It was Flora. Just listening to her voice already made her feel the insincerity in her tone. “How have you been lately?”

Luna looked at the screen again and confirmed that it was indeed Julius’s number. She then answered in a very cool voice, “Why are you calling me?”

Flora didn’t get angry and instead continued to ask with a smile. “All your dad said was just out of anger. Come home! You’re still not married, and if you keep staying with Alexander, it would be bad for your reputation.”

The way she spoke was like she and Julius just had an argument, and it had nothing to do with them.

“I’ve been kicked out of the Brooke family, can I still return?” Luna smiled icily and said, “If there’s nothing else, bye!”

The reason that Flora had used Julius’s number to call her was definitely not because Julius had stopped being furious at her and wanted her to go home.

After so many years, she was less than a shadow when she was living in the Brooke residence. He had already taken 100 million from Alexander. Would he even care if she was going home or not?

In his heart, his daughter Luna had already been sold to Alexander White with a price tag attached!

“Wait!” Flora immediately said, “Your dad wanted to ask you to meet with the Oaks. Eve was not in a good situation right now, so he wanted to help Eve say something good about her. Your dad didn’t want to ask you himself, so he asked me to call you instead.”

The sincere tone that Flora said it with almost made Luna fly into a rage to the point that she could probably easily crush steel with her bare hands.

“So you want me to bear all the responsibility so that Clarence and Eve can be together, is that it?”

She hadn’t expected Flora could say something so shameless. She was a real piece of work.

How could a person like that exist in this world?!

She had done so many things that harmed others, and yet she could say something like this with such a calm voice?

“Luna, I know you’re still angry at Eve and Clarence for what they did. But your dad couldn’t sleep because of this for a few days now, and his health is not doing well too. Please forgive him this one last time!” Flora continued to speak in a sincere tone as if she were an empathetic and wise mother. It was as if she had forgotten that many of the scars on Luna’s back were created by her own, abusive hands. “Once this is over, I’ll have Eve apologize to you, alright? Luna, please help her one last time!”

Luna’s breath became heavy as her chest heaved as she kept on trying to calm herself. Only then was she able to suppress the rage in her. She said, “Fine, I’ll help you! No need to kneel, we’re… We’re family after all.”

Just now, she finally realized why Alexander wanted to delay the investigation and the prosecution.

After she hung up the call, Flora then used Messenger to send a text, asking her when she would go to the Oak family.

Luna immediately used Alexander as an excuse, saying that she couldn’t leave for the time being. She still needed to speak with Alexander about it, so she had to wait for a time.

Flora thought that she was still someone that would obey her.

The world had already changed!

Since she wanted Eve to be Clarence’s wife so badly, fine! She would grant her wish!

Not to mention that even if she said nothing, Eve would kneel and beg her anyway!
