Queen, Please Let Me Die! - Chapter 12

On the New Tree, a wounded beastman slowly climbed down.

“Who are you?” Mercy was vigilant. He had never seen this being before, and his clothes were not from their Skalan tribe. It was not that just because they were beastmen themselves, they could trust beastmen from other tribes. Like humans, beastmen had their own territories.

Similarly, humans were different from each other. They could not trust one another just because they were all humans. Who knew what evil the other party held in their hearts?

“I come from the Orc Kingdom. My name is Keribud.” The Orc sat down slowly, leaning back against the New Tree. He looked at Sous in amazement. “You are very brave, human. You are also frighteningly observant.”

He sincerely admired Sous’ eyesight; being able to tell that the Engraved Beast was strong on the outside but weak on the inside. He even knew, in such a short time, that the New Tree possibly posed a fatal threat to the Engraved Beast.

If not for the fact that he was too powerless to resist, he would not have hidden in the tree.

One had to know that Mercy’s first thought upon seeing the Engraved Beast was to flee. Even though the Engraved Beast was riddled with wounds, Sous was different. He actually picked up the New Tree wooden stick at once and rushed in without hesitation.

How did this human discover this?

The New Wood had a weak effect of suppressing magic power, and had a slight effect on any divine object. In addition, the New Wood was hard, so picking it as a weapon was the best choice.

Of course, that bit of suppression was useless against humans and beasts at their peak abilities. It was only useful for creatures who were injured to the point where they only had one breath left. To those creatures, that little amount of suppression was fatal, and it was the same for the Beast.

On the contrary, if it was an ordinary weapon, it might even have allowed the Engraved Beast to retaliate in one breath. This was extremely dangerous.

If Sous had known that this was the case, he would probably die in anger. He had deliberately not brought the treasured sword that the empress had given him. His purpose was self-evident.

In the end, because he deliberately did not bring the sword along, he had saved his own life instead.

It was a good thing Sous did not know this, or he would be exasperated with himself.

“I’m brave? My observation skills are terrifying?” Sous had no choice. The Engraved Beast was already dead. It could not possibly be that the Beast was so powerful it could revive and deliver a fatal blow to him right there and then. Looking at the corpse, he was speechless.

He looked at the beastman called Keribud. The Engraved Beast should be here because of this fellow, right?

“Human, you’re too powerful. You’re much stronger than Mercy. If it wasn’t for your bravery and wanting to accompany us here, we definitely wouldn’t have been able to escape the pursuit of the Engraved Beast. If it chased us into the tribe, we’d be finished.” A few little beastmen excitedly surrounded Sous.

A number of the little beastmen even kicked the Engraved Beast’s corpse warily, thinking that it could still stand up once again.

“Ah, I’m not that powerful.” Sous said with a grin on his face, but inside he was bitter. What else could he say now but smile?

Could I tell them that I was actually courting death? But it was luck that let me kill off the wounded beast?

If he were them, would they believe him?

It was nonsensical. Hell, even he himself would not believe it.

Mercy’s eyes roved over Keribud. He did not say anything when he saw how badly Keribud had been injured. He said he had come from the Orc Kingdom. Judging by his attire, he really did seem to be from there. Mercy had once been to the Orc Kingdom a long time ago. He had seen the Orc Kingdom’s attire, and it indeed matched that of Keribud’s.

After that, Mercy went over to Sous’ side and looked at the Engraved Beast on the ground. He asked, “Sous, this Engraved Beast is already dead, but its bones, skin, and flesh are beneficial to us. Why don’t you hand over the carcass to me and bring it back for everyone to make a pot of soup tonight? The bones can be used as weapons, and its remaining aura can deter other ordinary Demon Beasts.”

When it came to understanding Demon Beasts and how to make use of them, Mercy was much more knowledgeable and proficient than Sous. They were a group of beastmen that relied on others to survive, and their understanding of Demon Beasts was not much inferior to humans. If it were the humans, they would pull out its teeth as a trophy of their hunt at most.

The carcass of the Engraved Beast was too huge. It was too dangerous to leave it in the forest.

Mercy’s attitude towards Sous was much better now. Previously, he was resistant to Sous. Even if Sous came around, he would ignore him. Now, he seemed to have acknowledged Sous’ abilities.

Now Mercy was interested in Sous as well, just as the little beastmen. The Orcs Tribe liked those who were brave and strong.

Moreover, he had indirectly saved the descendants of the beastmen. Just this point alone was already impressive enough.

If it had been Mercy himself, he would not have been able to do what Sous did.

He thought about how he’d yelled at Sous earlier, but looking at the outcome now, he could not help but blush. He had embarrassed himself too much. There was no sense of reliability in front of these kids.

“I don’t need the carcass either. If you want it, you can carry it back.” The carcass under Sous’ feet was very big. One had to know that this Engraved Beast was four meters tall when it stood up. It was extremely oppressive. Even if it died, it was still very much intimidating.

He did not want it. Since Mercy wanted it, then he could take it away. Sous could not be bothered to cook, and he was also hungry. If they could use the meat of the Engraved Beast to make food, then he could also get a free meal.

“Alright, since the wild wolf has been killed, let’s go.”

Mercy happily squatted down to carry the Engraved Beast’s carcass. Its carcass was quite delicious, and it was also very nourishing for humans.

“You’re leaving just like that?”

Sous was stunned. They had just arrived and now they were leaving?

The little kid beside Sous was also feeling very disappointed. They had not shown their abilities yet, but they were already going back?

Mercy had no choice. He had only prepared a wild wolf. He had tricked these little brats that it was a Demon Beast, and Sous had believed him. How could he have captured a Demon Beast to test the courage of these children? He did not have the skill to do so. Did he not see that the half-dead Keribud, was already hanging on to his last breath, and was about to go up to the Heavens?

“Yes, let’s go back.”

Resignation. There was probably no more danger now even if they stayed. The wild beasts in this area had probably been scared away by the Engraved Beast. It was useless to be here now. At most, they would be feeding the mosquitoes.

As for the stranger from the Orc Kingdom, he slowly stood up and followed.

His entire body was covered in blood. He was afraid that he would attract other Demon Beasts. He really felt extremely unlucky. He actually encountered a rare Engraved Beast in this lousy place.

On the way back, this group of beastmen children was full of worship for Sous. Such a powerful Demon Beast was stabbed to death with a wooden stick.

Sous however, was depressed. Why was this Demon Beast so weak? Why did it come out if it was so weak? Did its family know?

If he was so weak, wasn’t he being careless like this?

The Engraved Beast was too stupid. He was told that the Demon Beasts did not have poor intelligence, but this was it?

What an idiot!

The Engraved Beast on Mercy’s shoulder was dead speechless.
