Notebook of Fortune - Chapter 31

“No… There’s no way to direct the electric current to the stars…”

Shen Zhe’s body trembled hard.

His nerves were paralyzed by the electricity. It was impossible to control his body, much less illuminating the stars!

The idea did not seem to be working.

However… He had a trump card.

The pencil on his notebook floated.

The notebook allowed him to make drugs with a griddle. Could it allow him to illuminate stars with electricity?

Hu!

With the pencil, he wrote on the book, “I can illuminate the stars with electricity!”

Zi la!

His handwriting glittered and did not disappear.

Excited, Shen Zhe felt that his paralyzed nerves were recovered and the electric current was flowing all over his body.

“Gather in the stars…”

Concentrating his attention, he controlled the electric current to flow to the stars.

BOOM!

The dim stars trembled and glimmered, only to die out later!

“What’s going on?”

Frowning, Shen Zhe continued controlling the electric current.

Like just then, the stars flashed and perished. It was impossible to illuminate them.

“The electric charge must be too little…”

Realizing that the stars were dimmer than before, Shen Zhe realized what was going on.

The lemons were bigger and more acidic, but they were still too weak to illuminate the stars.

Heaving a sigh, he spat out the wires.

It was possible to illuminate stars with electricity thanks to the notebook, but what could he do when the electricity was not enough?

It seemed that the task was impossible however many lemons he could find.

His efforts proved to be in vain… Shen Zhe was rather bummed.

He could generate electricity with lemons, but he didn’t really know how to make a generator.

Even an engineer might not be able to make one in the present conditions, let alone a weak student like himself.

He should have studied harder!

“Are you OK?”

Seeing that Shen Zhe was back to himself after only a few cramps, Cui Xiao found it hard to believe.

“I’m fine…”

Nodding his head, Shen Zhe looked at the lemons in the room and said, “I don’t need them anymore. You can help me get rid of them…”

Most of the acids had been used up so they had become useless to him.

“You don’t need them anymore?”

Cui Xiao was rather regretful that the lemons were abandoned so quickly after an afternoon of hard work.

He stored the sliced lemons into a box and was about to leave the dormitory when a heavy rain poured down.

Moments after, the world was illuminated by lightning.

Without anybody realizing it, it was already dark.

“What a big lightning bolt…” said Cui Xiao with mixed feelings.

“Lightning…?”

Shen Zhe was beaming; he was wondering where he could find a source of electricity.

That was his answer!

Electricity from lemons was too insignificant to illuminate stars, but lightning had much more!

It was even more powerful than the industrially generated electricity.

If he could attract the lightning’s electricity into his body, his stars would definitely be illuminated easily!

The more he thought, the more sense it made. Shen Zhe was going to attract the lightning when something else occurred to him.

“The lightning is very powerful. Will it kill me?”

He had heard of a lot of victims killed by lightning. What if the electricity was too much for him?

He might as well not illuminate the stars if that were the case, because he could still be rich and alive.

“Should I try it with Cui Xiao like just now?”

He looked at the young man not far away.

If Cui Xiao was not killed by it, he would try it in person…

He shook his head the moment the idea popped up.

He was determined to improve his cultivation, but that didn’t mean that he had to hurt other people.

He would never place Cui Xiao in such danger, even if the guy had slandered him before.

It was a matter of principle.

If he did that, would he be any different from a bad guy?

“I’m going to try it. It shouldn’t be a problem with the notebook and my stage-seven body…”

Shen Zhe narrowed his eyes.

While the lightning was powerful, it shouldn’t be a problem for the notebook since it could alter reality.

Thinking about that, he jumped out of the room and into the rain without any hesitation.

“Lightning, come on!”

He pointed at the sky solemnly.

Crack!

A thunder rumbled but Shen Zhe was not hit.

“…”

Cui Xiao had not left yet and was stunned by this.

“What the heck?”

“It was weird enough that he spent the whole afternoon playing with lemons…”

“He’s now even demanding for a lightning strike in the rain… Is he crazy?”

“What are you doing?” Cui Xiao couldn’t help but ask him.

“I’m trying to practice my art…” Shen Zhe replied, frowning.

“Okay… I’ll leave you to it. I’ll be on my way.”

Confirming that he was truly crazy, Cui Xiao shook his head.

He decided to run back, seeing that the rain was not stopping any time soon.

However, his clothes would be wet since he didn’t have an umbrella…

Thinking for a moment, he lifted the iron box with lemons above his head to block the rain.

“You can leave…”

Taking a deep breath, Shen Zhe waved his hand and called again, “Lightning, come on!”

Crack!

Another lightning bolt descended from the sky.

Excited, Shen Zhe was focusing to attract the electricity when he heard someone fall.

Shen Zhe turned around in a hurry after not sensing any injuries on himself, only to discover that Cui Xiao was foaming on the ground.

The lightning missed him but hit Cui Xiao.

“Are you alright?”

Shen Zhe quickly helped Cui Xiao to get back on his feet. He found that he was not fatally wounded, although his face was blackened and his hair was standing on end.

It seemed that his body and mind were strong with the seven illuminated stars.

“I’m fine…”

Cui Xiao felt like crying.

“Bro, this is the guy who wanted to be hit, not me…”

“I don’t want to be struck…”

“I’d better go…”

Resting for a moment and feeling recovered, Cui Xiao gloomily blocked his head with the box again and struggled to walk forth.

Crack!

Another lightning bolt came.

Putong!

He fell and cramped again.

“Well…”

Shen Zhe had waited for such a long time and got nothing, but Cui Xiao was hit twice the moment he was under the rain. Shen Zhe said enviously, “Cui Xiao, you are truly distinguished? What can I do to be struck by lightning as many times as I want like you did?”

“…”

Cui Xiao trembled and wept.

What was he talking about?

Someone might be envied for having good grades, for having a girlfriend, for having a tremendous amount of money, or for being a Mage…

But nobody was ever envied for being struck by lightning!

The lightning was more and more violent as the storm got heavier.

Cui Xiao was back to himself after lying for a moment. He stood up and heaved the box again after he watched vigilantly and saw no lightnings in the sky.

“I’m really leaving…”

He peeped at the sky, secretly nodded, and stepped out.

Crack!

Putong!

He cramped on the ground again, this time both foaming and losing consciousness.

“Magnificent!”

Shen Zhe raised his thumb.

Was the lightning biased against bad students, too?

His body was stiffening after waiting for so long, but Cui Xiao had been hit three times when he was only five meters away…

That was so unfair!

“Why was he favored over me?”

“Why are you only striking him? You’re truly unfair!”

Shen Zhe pointed at the sky angrily.

“…”

Cui Xiao cramped even harder.

“He wants to be struck but he’s fine. I’m only a passerby, and yet I was hit three times…”

More importantly, he was even complaining about the injustice…

Why was he so shameless?

Struggling back to his feet, Cui Xiao said, “It can’t happen again… or I might really die here…”

Although he had illuminated seven stars, the lightning was still too powerful. Resisting it three times was his best; he could die if it happened again.

Cui Xiao was about to lift up the box with his remaining strength when Shen Zhe said, “Wait…”

He finally understood the reason!

It was because of the box.

The box in which Cui Xiao kept the lemons was made of iron, with a metal stick on one side to mark the brand of his stall.

The top of the iron stick was as thin as a needle, making work as a mobile lightning conductor.

It would’ve been a miracle if the guy was not hit by the lightning!

“Thank god I overheard this in my previous life…”

Figuring out why, Shen Zhe looked at Cui Xiao in disdain again.

“Are you really a good student?”

“You deserve to be struck for not knowing this!”

“…” Cui Xiao was going crazy.

“I was hit three times because of my misfortune. I can’t complain about that. But why are you eyeing me so scornfully?”

“Do you despise me for attracting lightning?”

“I need to borrow your box!”

Too lazy to explain, Shen Zhe stepped forward and raised the iron box above him.

“Come on, lightning!”

After a boom, a thick lightning bolt fell with the rain and spread down through the iron stick on the box.

Stiffened, Shen Zhe immediately sensed infinite electricity.

The lemon battery was not worth mentioning compared to this.

He had finally been hit by lightning after such a long wait…

Shen Zhe’s eyes were wet. He was excited.
