My Dear Mr. Gu - Chapter 58

She dared not take that risk.

“It was just a goodbye kiss. This will not happen again in the future,” said Huo Weiwu as she looked defensively at Gu Haoting.

“A goodbye kiss?” Gu Haoting quirked the corners of his lips. However, his eyes were growing increasingly colder, like icicles capable of killing.

Wei Yankang stood in front of Huo Weiwu, blocking her. He said to Gu Haoting, “Commander, this has nothing to do with Xiaowu.”

Gu Haoting swept his sharp gaze across him and said sternly, “Are you fit to be calling her ‘Xiaowu’? Get out of here!”

“Big brother, this woman is so bold and confident even when she kissed someone else’s man. You must discipline her,” said Gu Jiaoxue, trying to embellish the story.

Gu Haoting looked unhappily at Gu Jiaoxue. “I told all of you to get out. Didn’t you hear that?”

“Big brother, they hurt me,” Gu Jiaoxue whined.

“That’s because you allowed yourself to get hurt. Lieutenant Shang, deal with this. I don’t wish to see anyone who is irrelevant,” said Gu Haoting coldly as he locked his gaze firmly on Huo Weiwu.

Huo Weiwu watched as Lieutenant Shang lead four soldiers into the apartment.

She thought, “So, all his men are outside.

“Has he still been monitoring me, or was Lieutenant Shang coincidentally still around?”

Lieutenant Shang said to Gu Jiaoxue, “Excuse me.”

After being appropriately polite, he instructed the soldiers sternly, “Take her and her fiancée away.”

“Understood,” the soldiers replied.

Wei Yankang took one step toward Huo Weiwu and a gun was instantly pointed to his head.

“Mr. Wei, I’ll have to ask you to leave. You are already obstructing military affairs,” said Lieutenant Shang sternly.

Wei Yankang looked at Huo Weiwu and mouthed, “Wait for me.”

Huo Weiwu turned away as though she had not seen it.

Lieutenant Shang shut the door after them when he left.

Suddenly, the room became so quiet that it felt secretive.

Huo Weiwu could hear herself breathing. The pressure she was feeling doubled.

“Do you know how I deal with women who have been sullied?” asked Gu Haoting icily.

Huo Weiwu frowned.

At this stage, there was no escape for her.

Being cowardly and pleading with him would only hurt her dignity and lower her quality without changing the outcome of the situation.

“That depends on how you define ‘sullied’,” responded Huo Weiwu without making herself seem inferior.

“Someone who whispers sweet-nothings to another man besides her husband, who decided to let her ex go only so she could win him back, and who still longs for another man even after their parting. Someone who then lies and tries to conceal everything. Do you think that’s the right definition?” retorted Gu Haoting.

“I did not whisper sweet-nothings to him or let him go only so that I could win him back. Believe it if you want to, but I can’t do anything about it if you don’t. If you want to condemn somebody, don’t worry about pretense!” replied Huo Weiwu loudly.

Gu Haoting kicked the coffee table so forcefully that one of the table legs broke and hit the ground.

The fruits on the coffee table rolled down, landing everywhere.

Huo Weiwu grew enraged. She exploded, “Take your anger out on me!”

Gu Haoting grabbed her cheek. His red-rimmed eyes locked on her furious ones.

“Didn’t you say that Wei Yankang came to get his stuff? Where is his stuff?” asked Gu Haoting coldly.

Huo Weiwu paused momentarily. “It was just a pair of earrings. He has taken them with him.”

“Is that so? He’s still outside, shall I ask my soldiers to search him?” asked Gu Haoting incredulously.

Huo Weiwu figured that she could not continue to lie and decided to face the truth. “What exactly do you want to prove?”

“I hate being lied to over everything!”

“So do I!” Huo Weiwu yelled back at him. In an agitated manner, she said, “You said you would give me freedom, but you sent people to spy on me. You appeared the moment Wei Yankang and Gu Jiaoxue did. Why is there a need to act dignified when you are treacherous and deceitful?”

Gu Haoting took out a pair of earrings from the envelope he was holding and threw them onto the ground. He raged, “I must have been stupid to rush over in order to return the earrings that you dropped in the pool!”
