My Dear Mr. Gu - Chapter 42

Huo Weiwu’s right eyelid kept twitching. She had a very bad feeling. She glanced at the time and realized it was already 2:00 in the afternoon.

“You’ve been driving for over three hours. Are we nearly there?” asked Huo Weiwu with a hint of impatience.

“We’re almost there. Look, you can see the beach,” replied Yanzi comfortingly.

A short time later, they were stopped by a barricade.

Four security guards stepped forward and asked cautiously, “Please show us your invitation card.”

Yanzi smiled sweetly as she handed her invitation card over.

The security guards did not stop at examining their vehicle but went on to check their purses before letting them through.

“Why are they so strict about this?” asked Huo Weiwu curiously.

“It has to be done. After all, prominent figures will be attending this party, and each invitation card only grants the entry of two people. I had to beg my mother’s friend to get an invitation card,” said Yanzi. Her eyes sparkled with joy at the thought of meeting His Majesty, Yu Yi.

After driving for another five minutes, they finally arrived at the door of a magnificent villa.

Eight more security guards were standing at the door. After they conducted a thorough examination, they gave the number stickers ’98’ and ’99’ to the two girls, as well as a key card to room 303.

Yanzi pasted the number sticker ’99’ on her chest.

Huo Weiwu, who had the number sticker ’98,’ looked at it and asked confusedly, “What is this? Is this a pageant? Why do we need numbers?”

“The prominent figures will interview us one by one, and if we’re chosen, we will get the chance to participate in tonight’s ball,” said Yanzi hopefully.

“What if we’re not chosen?” asked Huo Weiwu.

“In that case, we have to stay in the room and sleep. However, some rooms are directly facing the backyard, and if we’re lucky enough, we might even get a chance to sneak in. Let’s go, Sister Huo, there should be food inside,” exclaimed Yanzi as she dragged Huo Weiwu with her.

Huo Weiwu stuffed her number sticker into her bag.

She had no interest in such matchmaking events and would rather sleep in the room.

As they entered, the cool breeze from the air conditioner greeted them along with the aroma of hot, freshly cooked food.

The people standing inside were dressed similarly to them. Most of them had the same features—wide eyes and sharp faces, and they were wearing thick makeup. Their physiques were tall with long, slender legs.

Huo Weiwu was instantly blinded.

“Hey, isn’t this Weiwu? How could you dare to show up?” A very surprised-looking girl came walking over with an insidious smile on her face.

“I don’t know what there is to be embarrassed about,” replied Huo Weiwu coldly.

“You’re already so old, what makes you think you can compete with young girls like us? Do you think you can compete in terms of skin elasticity? You’re really shameless—it seems you’ve lost your mind after getting played by Yan Weikang. That explains how you have the guts to show up here,” said Huo Chun, who clearly despised her.

“Young girls like you? Foolish girl, you’re 24 years old this year, right? You’re merely two years younger than me. The age difference between us is so small, yet you’re calling me old. Is that because you think you won’t live beyond the age of 26? Or do you feel that disparity because your mental age stopped developing at three years old?” said Huo Weiwu indifferently as she raised her jaw.

“Huo Weiwu, a woman should hide at home and not reveal her face to the public once she is past the age of 25. Don’t you think you have embarrassed your grandparents enough?” Huo Chun raged at her.

Huo Weiwu elegantly swept away the hair on her face and to reveal her phone. She told Huo Chun lazily, “I just recorded what you said earlier and sent it to your sister-in-law. If I’m not wrong, she’s 30 years old this year, right?”

“Huo Weiwu, you are a vixen. It’s no wonder that Yan Weikang abandoned you. Even though you angered your father to death to be with him, he still chose that noisy wretch from the Gu family. You deserve getting chased out by your grandparents,” retorted Huo Chun as she stomped her foot.

Every single word she uttered felt like a knife to Huo Weiwu’s heart.

“Are you done?” asked Huo Weiwu coldly.
