The shopkeeper remained in a daze as Ye Yunji finished his calculations using the abacus and held it before him. “See? You overcharged her by two taels and three copper coins.”
The shopkeeper opened his mouth wide and wanted to speak up but did not know what to say.
“Fenghua is one of your regulars, right? Can’t you give your regular a discount? We aren’t asking for much here. How about eight to ten taels?” After Ye Yunji was done doing the math, he calmly uttered some shocking words.
“T-that should be fine…” The shopkeeper stammered with great difficulty.
“Great. You don’t have to give us a huge discount. How about ten taels?” said Ye Yunji calmly.
The shopkeeper looked at Ye Yunji and was stupefied. He had never encountered any royalty who haggled. Never in his life!
“Here’s a banknote for 800 taels. Give me the change,” rushed Ye Yunji after handing the shopkeeper the money.
The shopkeeper counted out the change in a daze and handed it to Ye Yunji. Ye Yunji checked the change and his face instantly turned cold as he frowned slightly. “You have short changed me one copper coin.”
The shopkeeper suddenly felt like crying. He quickly retrieved one copper coin and placed it in Ye Yunji’s hand. Who on earth was this man? Even a single thread from his outfit was worth more than one tael, but he was making sure he coughed out every penny. What was going on?
Ye Yunji happily put the copper coin away. His face remained nonchalant and dignified as he nodded to the shopkeeper before he turned to say to Gu Fenghua, “Let’s go.”
Luo Enen and even Gu Fenghua were dumbstruck and in disbelief over what they witnessed.
Everything felt like an illusion. However, the shopkeeper’s awkward face was a keen reminder that it was no illusion. It was true! It was absolutely true!

After Gu Fenghua left Five Spices, she felt as though she was walking on air and felt a little giddy. What just happened there?
“Oh my god. The man whom everyone idolizes turned out to be such a miser. Mistress, it feels so surreal to me. It feels like a dream. Can you pinch me?” shouted Little White Flower in Gu Fenghua’s mind.
Gu Fenghua pinched Little White Flower without holding back leaving Little White Flower moaning with great satisfaction. Gu Fenghua suddenly regretted it a little. After all, it was howling in her mind, so she was the only one who had to hear it.
Even Little White Flower had to accept this harsh truth, let alone Gu Fenghua.
Ye Yunji bargained for Gu Fenghua again when she went clothes shopping. He took out his gold abacus and clacked it at the shopkeeper once more. After he haggled, the shopkeeper gave them a five tael discount. He even demanded two copper coins the shopkeeper had shortchanged. Gu Fenghua seemed to get used to this. It started to grow on her since it helped to save money!
Luo Enen was on the verge of crying. Why had it not crossed her mind to bargain? Why? Why was she so stupid? She felt as though Ye Yunji had opened her eyes to a new world. She was determined to master its essence! In the future, it would help her save money.
