Multiverse’s End - Chapter 32

“System, use ‘Character Card: Wesley’. Don’t equip the skin.”

[User has equipped ‘Character Card: Wesley’. Time limit of 240 seconds, starting now.]

Upon equipping Wesley’s Character Card, Luo Su didn’t feel any different. But when he began to grasp how to control his heartbeat to enter Bullet Time, that powerful strength began to awaken.

Wesley was a through and through loser. There was no doubt about that. But his talent was also the very best. Even without practice, his body could still enter Bullet Time on its own.

This alone could have other assassins green with envy. If Wesley hadn’t been under the impression that he suffered from panic attacks and took medicine to control his heartbeat, he would have long ago become a superman.

The intense thumping of his heart filled Luo Su’s mind. The heart was like a powerful motor, constantly pumping blood throughout his body.

His senses were expanded, and his thinking speed accelerated. His brain began to process information so quickly that Luo Su felt like he was watching everything in slow motion.

His sharp eyes scanned the area, taking in everything at a glance. Even a small grain of dust falling to the ground was broken down into countless still frames.

Dynamic Vision MAX!

Luo Su’s intuition told him that Cross’s Character Card would be even more impressive, but he had never been able to trigger the lottery phase with Cross. He couldn’t even get a Skill Card from him, much less a Character Card.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Luo Su aimed at the cracks in the spiral staircase and fired three times. He used his M9 handgun, as he had placed his assault rifle and shotgun on the ground. With Wesley’s Character Card, he felt more free with the M9, like the handgun was an extension of his body.

If he remembered correctly, Wesley’s preferred handgun was the M9. One could see that when using a Character Card, having the right equipment was also important.

The three bullets didn’t hit Sloan. The design of the spiral staircase meant that it was impossible to curve the bullets through it in such an exaggerated fashion. This was merely a test. Luo Su’s dynamic vision noted the trajectories of the bullets, and then he began to calculate, analyze, and plan the correct route.

After just two seconds, Luo Su found the right answer!

He took a grenade from his chest, took off the safety pin, and threw it. As the grenade flew high into the air, he threw out another grenade.

The two grenades collided, shifting their trajectories. The grenade without the safety pin had been on the verge of falling back down, but after being lightly struck, it rose into the air and flew into the room at the top.

The time was just right. The moment the grenade left the metal staircase, it exploded.

Luo Su was standing and ready, and the moment he heard the explosion, he rushed up the spiral staircase. The moment he showed his head, he sensed a sliver of danger and paused. A bullet whizzed right over his head.

It was Sloan!

Sloan had been an assassin for his entire life. Although he had spent his later years in the back office and been corrupted in all sorts of ways, he had been a legendary assassin in the first half of his life. Teetering on the edge of life and death had honed a powerful sensory ability. There was no scientific evidence to back it up, but he was just extremely sensitive to danger.

It was a little similar to Luo Su’s ability, but Luo Su had been born with his, but Sloan’s had been developed through experiencing far too many dangerous situations!

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The two began to exchange fire. Luo Su had managed with great difficulty to get up the stairs, so he naturally wasn’t going to back down.

The two sides began to attack and defend by intercepting each other’s bullets. The bullets would curve through the air, collide, deform, and explode in showers of sparks.

Wesley’s Character Card was powerful, and there was a reason the note had said that his blood was pure adrenaline. His talent was heads and shoulders above Sloan’s. He could casually enter and exit Bullet Time without restriction, while others would be considered masters if they could maintain the state for ten seconds.

Sloan was also a ten-second man. Although he was a veteran of many battles, he was also getting on in the years. He had worked in the office for too long, and his body’s physical condition had also begun to decline. Before he had even finished firing all the ammo in his gun, his legs began to go soft.

Ding!

The last bullets collided. Both of them had run out of ammo at the same time. Sloan began to change his magazine as he hid in a blind spot in the corner of the wall.

Luo Su used this chance to emerge from the stairwell, and just like Sloan, he reloaded. The two were separated by the Loom of Fate, making it seem like Fate itself was watching their battle.

“Let me go. There’s no need for us to fight to the death. If you want money, you can take everything on the floor!” Sloan leaned against the wall and tried to energize his body. He was old, so before entering Bullet Time, he needed to enter a long warm-up period.

“Are you joking with me?”

Luo Su scoffed, “If I really wanted money, I could just kill you and then take as much as I wanted!”

Sloan’s face turned dark, his tone cold. “What are you thinking? Why do you insist on wanting to kill me?”

“Didn’t I already tell you? Fate chose me to kill you, traitor!”

“You wretch!”

The conversation was over, and the mood began to tense. Luo Su and Sloan both remained silent, because the next time they fired, victory would be decided.

Luo Su’s heart began to beat faster. He clenched the M9, his body remaining still as his ears listened for Sloan’s heartbeat.

It couldn’t be called a steady one. Sloan was uneasy…

Clack!

Pulling on the ring of a grenade, Luo Su crouched down and dodged a curving bullet while throwing the grenade at Sloan’s location. He flipped backward, and his arm swung up in front of him, he fired two curved bullets.

To dodge the grenade, Sloan jumped out from the corner. As he flew through the air, he spotted the approaching bullets. But just as he was about to raise his gun and fire to intercept them, he felt a pull on his leg.

At some point, a ball of yarn had gotten tied around his ankle…

“Shit!!”

Pa! Pa!

The two bullets struck Sloan, one through his chest and one through his belly. He was shot down from the air in a spray of blood and brought crashing to the floor.

He had been critically wounded by these two shots, and the life was rapidly draining out of him.

His death was a painful one. Blood flowed out from his nose, and he struggled to raise a hand and cover the wound on his chest. What was normally so easy to do was now as difficult as ascending to the heavens.

Eye-catching crimson drenched his clothes and quickly began to pool on the floor. That ball of yarn drank in Sloan’s blood and turned dark red. At a glance, it appeared like some alluring red flower beginning to bloom.

It all seemed rather frightening…

Luo Su walked up to Sloan, saw those pleading eyes, and sighed. Taking out Fox’s M1911, he aimed it at Sloan’s eye and fired.

Thud!

The distance between life and death was very close. For the finger pulling the trigger, if you rounded up to the nearest integer, it was basically zero.

Luo Su found the sight of the body at his feet, and the wealth scattered around him darkly humorous. Fate gave you what you wanted and then snatched it all away. Perhaps you never even had it to begin with.
