Mr. Lu, the World’s Sweetest Man - Chapter 56

Spluttering with laughter, she said, “Surely that has nothing to do with me. Master Ting, are you telling me that you didn’t take showers when you lived alone?”

She had deliberately sidestepped the meaning behind Lu Zhanting’s words, lightening the mood with her question.

“Okay. Then you should remember this debt of yours and repay me, with interest, in the future.” Lu Zhanting took back the bill from her hand.

Yun Wei stuck out her tongue at him.

Lu Zhanting’s eyes narrowed slightly. In any case, this little woman was his, so he didn’t see the need to rush it.

Lately, Yun Wei had been living a very comfortable life.

On the other hand, Bai Wenping and Hua Shasha were facing immense difficulties.

For starters, in order to redeem the jewelry that they’d stolen from Yun Wei, they had incurred a huge amount of debt which they hadn’t yet been able to repay.

Their creditors had sent team after team of debt collectors to get them to pay up, but Bai Wenping and Hua Shasha had to resort to delay tactics to defer the repayment.

“What are we going to do? How are we going to repay the money?” Hua Shasha was more anxious than Bai Wenping was.

Initially, she’d thought that by hooking up with Bai Wenping, she’d be guaranteed a good life. But, unexpectedly, instead of living a life of luxury with nice clothes and delicious food and all expenses paid as she’d imagined, she still had to scavenge around in search of money.

With no guess as to when she’d be able to pay off her debts, Hua Shasha was really and truly upset.

After some thought, Bai Wenping replied, “I asked around and found out that the real necklace is in Jian Zhifei’s hands and that she’s about to return it to Yun Wei in the next few days. Since you’re close to Yun Wei, you should stay alert. Once we get that necklace, we’ll be home free and won’t have to worry about anything anymore!”

At that, Hua Shasha smiled and said, “Good. I’ll keep a lookout for that. Now, don’t you slack off. Keep digging around for funds wherever possible so that we can make ends meet for now.”

Indeed, barely two days had passed when Jian Zhifei turned up in the classroom with the diamond necklace.

Although the diamond necklace was precious and very expensive, Jian Zhifei didn’t regard it anything special.

She walked into the classroom and casually handed it to Yun Wei. “Yun Wei, thanks,” she said with a smile.

Accepting the necklace, Yun Wei also smiled. “You’re welcome.”

She then placed the box containing the necklace inside her desk drawer.

To anyone who didn’t know better, they’d think that Jian Zhifei had simply returned an eraser she’d borrowed from Yun Wei, not a priceless necklace.

Bending over, Jian Zhifei slouched at her desk and asked, “Don’t you want to open the box to take a look at it?”

“Shouldn’t I have absolute trust in the great Miss Jian?” Yun Wei responded, smiling free-spiritedly.

Having recovered from a three-month-old injury, Yun Wei had learned to be more discerning in situations and more selective in who she became close to.

In the past, she’d relished the cloying attention that Hua Shasha showered upon her, always saying things that she wanted to hear. Now, she knew what kind of people were really worth being closely associated with.

Someone like Jian Zhifei, who was direct and didn’t have an agenda. Someone who dared to love and dared to hate. Those were the characteristics that appealed to Yun Wei.

Jian Zhifei just smiled and said nothing.

But the fact that Yun Wei trusted her had put her in a very good mood.

Standing outside the classroom, Hua Shasha saw their entire exchange.

Although she couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, she knew that the genuine diamond necklace was in that box.

It was the diamond necklace that had constantly been in her and Bai Wenping’s thoughts; the necklace that they coveted; the priceless necklace that could transform their destiny.

During the break between classes, everyone went outside in groups of two’s and three’s.

Yun Wei too took the opportunity to go outside for some fresh air.

The crisp, refreshing air in the university’s garden energized her and made her feel very comfortable.

There were only a few people remaining in the classroom.

Hua Shasha stealthily snuck inside.

Since her desk was close to Yun Wei’s, no one took much notice of what she was doing.

Trying not to be seen doing so, she tugged at Yun Wei’s desk drawer to open it just slightly, just a small gap.
