“Oh. Who is he?” He narrowed his eyes, which had a dangerous glint.
Su Zhixi was stuck.
She could not state Ning Yichen’s name, but other than him, he could not recall another man’s name.
Meeting his mocking gaze, she shamelessly replied, “Anyway, this person exists. Our love is stronger than gold, so please stop disturbing me.”
He Jingyao snorted.
Despite knowing that she was blatantly lying, he still felt discomfited listening to the words.
This was especially when he thought that she still had not given up on Ning Yichen.
Su Zhixi regretted her words the moment she spoke them. She guiltily avoided the man’s eyes, which were turning darker. Suddenly, the vibration of a phone reverberated in the room.
The sudden ring made Su Zhixi heave a sigh of relief as she revealed a joyous look. “It’s your phone.”
He Jingyao glanced at her, deciding to let her off the hook temporarily. He stood up and retrieved his own phone from his pocket, then answered the call.
After answering with a “Hello,” he stopped talking. Su Zhixi watched as his face turned grimmer while the person on the other end of the phone call spoke.
By the time he hung up the call, she actually felt apprehensive.
She noticed the man’s gaze landing on her again. His dark eyes were deep and unreadable.
She nervously clenched her fists, but she did not know what she was nervous about.
Once again, He Jingyao walked toward her. He bent down to hold both her hands and he smiled lightly.
His smile was chilly, though.
“You’d rather give up the competition to send Ning Yichen to the hospital?” he gently stated.
Su Zhixi shuddered and her eyes widened.
“You can’t wait to draw the line with me because you think you have a chance with him. Hm?” Speaking, he reached out and gently tilted her chin upwards. His gaze turned darker and heavier.
She opened her mouth but could not speak a single word — because the man looked exceptionally dangerous and she instinctively felt fear from the depths of her heart.
She subconsciously skittered backward in a defensive stance.
This made He Jingyao’s pupils constrict!
He had originally thought that she was merely humoring him by claiming to have someone she liked. Now, it seemed that it was true.
That was why she was so resistant to him.
Great. Great, indeed. From just a moment of carelessness on my part, this woman actually managed to hook up with her old flame already!
Fury and lust blazed together in his heart! He had always thought that this woman would fall into his arms sooner or later, so he had never been worried. Instead, he slowly teased her and watched as her wall of defense slowly crumbled under his attack… And yet, the moment Ning Yichen showed any signs of amicability, she immediately wanted to draw the line between them!
Rage turned his eyes as dark as ink. His lips were pursed tightly together as his hands scrunched her chin tighter.
Su Zhixi whimpered in pain and involuntarily explained, “No… It’s not like that. He was injured because of me, and so I sent him to the hospital… This is something I should do. I will do the same no matter who it was that saved me!”
“So you’re saying that the person you like isn’t him?” His voice was low and dull, yet filled with restrained fury.
She bit down on her lips. She knew that she should nod her head and admit it, but how would she cover up her lie afterward?
She instantly hesitated.
Alas, in He Jingyao’s eyes, her hesitation became irrefutable evidence of her lingering feelings for Ning Yichen.
