When the mother and daughter had had enough of the drama, the mother hypocritically said, “Guoan, Zhixi is, after all, a girl. You shouldn’t be too harsh. How are you going to marry her off if she gets disfigured?”

“Just look at the way she is, who will want her in the future?” A look of disgust surfaced on Su Guoan’s face.

“That might not be the case…” Su Lianxi whispered. “Daddy, isn’t Jianfa’s CEO Li interested in Sister? Although he is slightly older, given Sister’s current situation… I think he wouldn’t mind!”

Upon hearing his second daughter’s words, he began considering it. Although CEO Li is an old fogey in his sixties, our family’s business is still dependent on Jianfa.

Su Zhixi could not believe that her father was actually tempted by it!

She lifted her head suddenly. “No way! If worse comes to worst, I’ll just not get married for my whole life and not follow your arrangements!”

“You have no say in this!” her father said, then harrumphed. “Return to your room! Without my order, you can’t leave!”

Su Zhixi gritted her teeth tightly as she turned around and left. However, before she could dash off, she slammed into a strong hug. It was so painful that it brought tears to her eyes!

“Su Zhixi?” The man supported her shoulder, and when he recognized her, a hint of unhappiness appeared in his voice.

She lifted her head and saw Ning Yichen’s dashing face.

She felt a piercing pain in her heart.

“Yichen!” Su Lianxi, who was smiling and looking on, suddenly became flustered. She rushed to him and wrapped her arms around his arm. “Yichen, you’re early today and I haven’t gotten my makeup done yet.”

He hugged her waist and said gently, “You’re already beautiful without makeup.”

Instantly, she smiled like a blooming flower.

On the other hand, Su Zhixi covered her injured nose, and just as she walked past Ning Yichen, he reached out to stop her. “What’s the matter?”

Su Guoan smiled at him and said, “Yichen, thank god you stopped this lass. If not, she would have escaped.”

The perplexed look on his face intensified.

“It’s like this, Yichen,” Su Lianxi whispered as she tugged him, “Sister angered Daddy, but let’s go first. Daddy can settle this himself.”

“Ah!” he acknowledged, then he shot a glance at Su Zhixi, who was in a pathetic state.

That apathetic glance caused her heart to be riddled with a thousand gaping wounds.

“Ning Yichen,” she suddenly said. “Were you with Su Lianxi last night at around 9:30 PM?”

Last night at 9:30 PM, not long after Su Lianxi had arrived at home, the helper had served her a glass of milk.

“Why do you ask?” His face darkened.

“You just have to answer me truthfully.” She lifted her head and stared obstinately at him.

However, Su Lianxi was the first to answer. “Yichen and I watched a movie until 10:00 PM, so he was naturally with me when it was 9:30 PM.”

Ning Yichen frowned. Last night, when they were halfway through the movie, Su Lianxi had said she was feeling unwell. Hence, they left an hour earlier, and she should have been home by 9:30 PM.

Yet, when he saw Su Lianxi’s pleading eyes, he did not point it out. He merely raised his brow and said, “That’s right, what’s wrong?”

Su Zhixi smiled bitterly and replied, “Nothing.”

She clearly saw the doubt that Ning Yichen had earlier, but he chose to cover up for her younger sister.

They are engaged to each other, but what am I to him? Why would Ning Yichen speak up for me?

Su Zhixi, what are you hoping for? This man is going to become your brother-in-law. You should have dropped the idea long ago.

When her younger sister heard his reply, she secretly heaved a sigh of relief. Her smile became even sweeter than before. “Yichen, it’s getting late. Let’s go to the art exhibition.”

“Sure.” He smiled at her endearingly, and, after bidding goodbye to her parents, he left with her.

Meanwhile, Su Zhixi was left standing in a trance. She covered her nose and blinked her eyes forcefully, as though doing so would stop the tears from falling.
