Xia Yangyang was reluctant to leave Gu Qichen’s office.
It was because she knew that the moment she left the office, she would be the source of everyone’s gossip again.
She would rather hide inside here.
Gu Qichen had begun his work, and there was a pile of work waiting for him every day. Flourishing Origin Corporation was founded by his father, Gu Shengyuan. He had created an empire with his bare hands. After half a century, Flourishing Origin Corporation’s businesses had infiltrated dozens of industries, with them dominating the property industry.
The man before her was worth a few hundred billion yuan.
Xia Yangyang was born in a privileged and well-to-do family too. Her father was the chairman of Starlight International. It was considered a huge media corporation with subsidiaries in management companies, newspapers and publishing houses.
Despite that, the Xia family and the Gu family weren’t in the same league.
Other than having a vast number of businesses, they had powerful connections with the government. For that reason, the Gu family had enjoyed being the top family amongst the four.
Xia Yangyang had heard about Gu Qichen’s name from her father. Her father had praised that Gu Qichen was a rare business genius. His background and father were even more impressive.
Gu Shengyuan was nearly 80 while Gu Qichen was 27 years old this year. He had been gifted with a son despite his advanced age. But everyone was aware that his wife had passed away soon after giving birth to Gu Qichen’s older sister, Gu Mingzhu. He hadn’t remarried for years, but he suddenly got a son when he was in his fifties.
There were many rumors circulating with some saying that Gu Qichen was Gu Shengyuan’s illegitimate son. Others claimed that Gu Qichen was an orphan. But when he was 17 years old, Gu Shengyuan had passed the vast empire to him and it had been a decade since then.
Xia Yangyang had no idea how a young man of 17 could be responsible for a huge empire. From the start, a majority of the shareholders had vehemently refused to acknowledge him as they deemed that it was a huge joke for a boy to take over the company. However, everyone at Flourishing Origin Corporation now had been entirely convinced as their businesses had prospered with each passing year. The company was unsurmountable.
Gu Qichen was perceived as a miracle in the industry.
“Xia Yangyang, if you continue to look at me in this way, I won’t be able to take it.”
Gu Qichen’s deep voice rang from his desk and Xia Yangyang jolted back to her senses. Only then did she realize that she had been staring at Gu Qichen for a long time.
She blushed and leaped to her feet. “I’m getting back to work.”
She returned to her seat and her colleagues scrambled to her. “Yangyang, are you all right? Did President Gu scold you?”
Xia Yangyang shook her head. “I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Lin Yuanyuan said, “Even if President Gu were to chide you, it is still a blessing. There are so many of us in the secretary department but you’re the one who has gone to his office the most frequently. We don’t even have a chance to meet him. Yangyang, I’m envious of you.”
Someone teased Lin Yuanyuan. “Yuanyuan, are you in love with President Gu?”
She blushed instantly. “What rubbish is that? I’m not!”
Someone buttered her up. “It’s no big deal even if you have a crush on him. Your family is one of the top four families in Fengcheng City, and you’re the oldest daughter. Both your families are well-matched in terms of social status and wealth. Besides that, you’re so pretty and you’re the only intern who has been signed on. This proves that the president likes you. Perhaps one day, you would become Mrs Gu?”
Lin Yuanyuan was as red as a tomato. She said, “What are you talking about? That has never occurred to me! Don’t spew nonsense anymore.”
“Look, Yuanyuan is blushing! Our future mistress is shy!” Everyone chimed in.
The spotlight had shifted from Xia Yangyang, and she heaved a sigh of relief.
